Cool, I think bills are are a big step towards mass adoption.

If I can walk into a store and hand them a tamper proof bill for goods or services, I think it will be a huge step forward.

I would love to hear more details ASAP.

This is great news, and am hoping to see what you guys come up with!

I had a chance to review your recently published patent application.  I think I accurately speak for many of us to say I'm curious to know your intent with applying for a patent on not just your BitBills, but what appears to be the entire concept of Bitcoin cold storage.

Some are likely going to think that the reintroduction of BitBills to the marketplace is a good thing, but that an endeavor to gain a broad monopoly over all cold storage of bitcoins is a bit inconsistent with the values of this community.  If anyone deserves to patent something like this, shouldn't it perhaps be someone like Gavin Andresen?  After all, he proposed this more than a year before your patent application's filing date.

And how can you check exactly how many btc are in the address without internet?


I mean, if it was a 5 BTC bill, you need to know exactly how many btc were deposited afterwards ...

Your patent application scares me.  Can you comment on your intent?  I was a previous customer and proudly show my bitbill to everyone when I first explain bitcoin to them.  Depending on your intent with this patent... I may have to adjust my behavior.

They're a great concept, and I'm also eager to see what comes next.  I've got two sets of your Beta BitBills, and would love to be able to carry non-collectible versions of these around in my wallet.

But I'm reserving judgement, and a decision on whether to evangelize or warn, based on your patent intentions.

To me it's not a matter of right or wrong. Legally speaking, ever since the patent laws got ridiculously changed to 'he who gets there first wins', it has invited patent trolls.

In my mind, your intentions will go far on how successful (or not) your product is.

See a lot of success with Ripple within the Bitcoin community?  I'd never advocate them to anyone; having a massive pre-mined cache, they have their own best interests in mind, to the detriment to the Bitcoin community.

One last point - saying nothing is, in itself, a decision.  It leaves uncertainty in the air.  The very people trying to pioneer new concepts (casascius, smoothie, and lots more coming) have a significant risk piled onto their business equation, while this uncertainty remains.
