There is a major hurricane headed up the US east coast. I'm moving my miners away from windows and covering them with a tap tarp.

I live in Eastern Florida and it totally dodged us. Heard it's gonna cause some mayhem north of NC though. Hopefully noone gets caught up in it.

Must say I am kind of curious how much overall hash rate this storm actually removes, directly or indirectly. Seems it could shut down millions and millions of homes on the east coast.

How nice of the hurricane to shut off east coast miners just in time to cause a difficulty drop!  (i'm too far inland to get more than nasty rain myself and will be sitting this one out) |

It makes one proud to be a Bitcoin miner... Apparently, for most Bitcoin miners, when you hear about a massive hurricane about to hit the most populated area in the United States, your first thought is, "Bwahaha...some miners might die and/or have to shut down their rigs. Oh, wait a minute...I was confusing pride with shame... lol.. ya I had a month of no power back in 2004 here in FLA and must say it's always in the back of my mind 'what happens if I lose power for a month or so again' Oddly enough Irene only gave us about 30-40 mph winds down here so although I like the storms, was glad we kept power! Chances of 4 hurricanes hitting here in a 1 month time frame is pretty low, but it did happen once |

So your power is out, but only 20% of your miners are down? Call me crazy, but I would expect 100% of your miners to be down right now. Even with a $160 brand-name UPS you only get a few minutes of power when you're powering several video cards... I take it your generator could only handle so many of them  |

I have a gen but will not mine on it as it is needed for fridge. This could be days. |

no mining here ATM, all electronics are unplugged but this rig on its UPS and its not mining to extend UPS runtime if/when the power goes out. then its generator time and thats mainly for freezer, fridge, microwave and, most important, COFFEE MAKER.
but Ill run this rig on generator with its cellular internet, assuming the tower still exists and functions.. no mining though, thats 200 watts or so that will be needed elsewhere. this rig will just be for internet, and running in power saving mode.
got 1 week of fuel and oil changes for the generator. as long as the house doesnt take much damage we should be good.
