I literally sent a PM to the user 20 minutes ago telling him to edit his post and not do this.
It's not against the rules, but it's discouraged for obvious reasons. When someone does that, they will either get into someone's else ignore list, or lose any chance of getting merit (if they ever had any).

Thanks! Hmm, if that's not again the forum rules then i can't do anything about it. But thanks for explain it! Based on what TryNinja wrote, that's allowed but they will get chance to being ignore.

While I agree with what is being said in your thread, that's not exactly what is happening here. The user isn't quoting something from another source to pass as his own or to add as an argument to what he is saying. He is quoting the parent post (the owner of the thread) to answer him/comment about what he said (just like what I'm doing with you right now).

Try doing it like this: If you're referring to a specific part of the post, then just quote that part. But if you're referring to a post as a whole, and not just one part of it, there's no need to quote at all. Quite simple the way I see it.

-snip- Alternatively, if you really want the user to know that you're addressing them, you can either snip their quote as above or alternatively write @[username]. I would personally do the former as it creates branches in larger posts and improves readability.

For the OP creator and someone who interested and has still not known how to avoid over-quoting. Here you go: Tips for newbies, who want to avoid over-quoting (by tbct_mt2)This is my topic, which published several days ago, and might be helpful for not only newbies, low-ranked members, but also for shitty higher-ranked members who fortunately ranked up to high positions through their shit posts. The real problem is not how to do this, because as you can see in my topic, they are very simple steps; instead totally depends upon approach and attitude of composers. If they are lazy, they will don't care about avoid over-quoting. Let's contribute to build up the forum and make it cleaner, less messy by avoiding over-quoted threads. Thanks.

Now how can i close this thread?
Of course, you should lock the topic to prevent spammers dump their shits here. Never should give them opportunities to do this. How to lock your topic? Please look at the left bottom of your topic, you will find "Lock topic" button. Click on this button, you will lock it (of course, you can unlock it later if you want).
