So i've finally made the decision that mining isnt for me right now.  Until i feel comfortable in the process I cant justify buying $1k of equipment and running it 24/7.  So for now I want to trade cryptocurrency like stocks......is that possible?

Can someone point me in the right direction to get started with this?  Is there a how to?  Is there a recommended site that has various types of the coins?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There's plenty of info all over this website and the web. Do a little research yourself before you go diving into something.

Hi, you may want to take a look at Cryptsy either sign up using my referral link: https://www.cryptsy.com/users/register?refid=22479 or using: https://www.cryptsy.com. Here you can buy and trade lots of different coins. As for a How To guide i'm unable to help sorry, thou there probably a guide somewhere on this site.

On cryptsy.com and coinex.pw you can trade different crypto-currencies but i don't know if you can get any "real" money in there.
On btc-e.com and mtgox.com you can deposit dollar and trade for crypto-currencies but it is not so easy to get the money in ther in my opinion.
On localgoldcoin.com you can buy some goldcoins for dollars and then transfer them to the trading site of your choice.

Yea it seems like the options are limited. Plus finding a trustworthy site is just as hard
