After you researched the projects that you want to invest you need to choose 3-5 projects from to put money in. You don't need more than 5 projects for your first investments because it's hard to follow many projects at the same time. I would split these 500 usd into 5 projects may be even equal portions to do it simpler.

Devide $500 to 5 parts and invest 100$ in 5 different new alts just come out to IDEX from "high" rated ICOs on icodrops and trading near ICO price. That coins have big chances to be listed on big Exchanges and make x2-x3 in near future

Very often the price of ICO from the price on the stock exchanges are different, so I do not advise investing in ICO, it is better to wait for access to the first stock exchanges and buy there much cheaper
