Trying p2pool for the first time, and it looks a bit different than im use to. Does the following look normal or do I have something mis-configured? PS, the accepted shares shown at the top are from another pool before I switched to p2pool.vtcpool.co.uk. I haven't seen any accepted shares from the p2pool yet. Ok, I took everyone's advice. Reduced intensity to 13 from 14 and that reduced the HW errors although it also reduced the hashrate. Im hoping that tradeoff is going to be OK in the long run. The card is a R9-280x. I set the temp-overheat to 90 and cutoff to 95. I read somewhere the R9 series was good up to 95. Also added the difficulty adjustment to my worker name to reduce the churn. It's looking better now, at least im getting some accepted shares. Obviously I will have to wait a while to see if anything shows up in my wallet. Thanks guys, this definitely helped.

I can understand if it was a for a few hours, but surely after 20 hours I should have found a share by now?
That does seem pretty high but when randomness is involved sometimes you'll have those super long waits and other times find 2 within a few seconds of each other. I show a few miners of similar speed to you on my nodes right now, and the front end reports about 3-4 hours average time to find a share. That will vary with network difficulty and size of the p2pool network of course.

So why the p2pool difficulty is a problem? You can adjust your difficulty and send shares at desired frequency. Am I missing something?
There is a minimum share difficulty that has to be submitted that is pool wide to get onto the p2pool alt chain. The options you list above don't affect that. The pool I'm on lists it as 2.15, but that's scrypt speak, which your miner doesn't use. According to the cgminer readme: Q: Why do the scrypt diffs not match with the current difficulty target? A: The current scrypt block difficulty is expressed in terms of how many multiples of the BTC difficulty it currently is (eg 28) whereas the shares of "difficulty 1" are actually 65536 times smaller than the BTC ones. The diff expressed by cgminer is as multiples of difficulty 1 shares.
So 2.15 is actually 141k. If your miner successfully submits a share to p2pool over that size (and it's not orphaned), then you get a valid share. Anything under that size is ignored. M

This only controls pseudo-share difficulty which changes rate at which miner communicate with node to measure it's hashrate.

If I'm a p2pool alone will receive the same, as if I was on a lot with us?

A waste of your bandwidth and power. To my knowledge KnC miners are SHA256 miners, not scrypt miners. Even if it was a scrypt miner, VTC is designed to thwart scrypt miners, so it wouldn't work anyhow. M

This only controls pseudo-share difficulty which changes rate at which miner communicate with node to measure it's hashrate.
But when I change my pseudo-difficulty the result is exactly the same as changing worker difficulty in a normal pool. When I set it high I need more time to send a share but the share is at high-diff, and when I lower it I am sending low-diff shares at high frequency. I have tested this for many weeks and it works like this. My payout is the same of course in all cases, it is just my (accepted) share sending time/frequency that varies. Everything you said there is correct. In reality controlling the share size doesn't mean much anymore, since p2pool now supports and uses vardiff. M

M So for anyone who worries about high diff just do the trick I mentioned a few posts back and you are fine! You can control your share diff according to your speed. If it doesn't work in your p2pool node just try a different one. It should work on most though Again... that "trick" only affects the pseudo shares, the ones that really don't mean anything. The only ones that count are the ones > the pool share size, which you can not control. M

"There is a minimum share difficulty that has to be submitted that is pool wide to get onto the p2pool alt chain."
p2pool sharechain works similar to blockchain, there is target time interval, in which sharechain is generated and p2pool adjusts minimal difficulty to achieve this.

Its for scrypt and not for scrypt-n so it has no impact on VTC

Its for scrypt and not for scrypt-n so it has no impact on VTC AFAIK all the upcoming ASICs are for scrypt including the Titan. VTC should be pretty much unaffected, although the exchanges are based on supply/demand so exchange rates could be affected between VTC and LTC/BTC.

in terms of the influx of asics now and in the near future, what is the difference between vertcoin and an X11 coin like Hirocoin? I know this is a vertcoin thread, but what is the reason behind supporting vertcoin over hirocoin?
Thats simple: community backing and development. What about vertcoin vs DRK then. DRK is not a pump and dump and will offer complete anonymity via DarkSend. Not bashing VTC as I am holding some, but I also hold DRK. Just trying to figure out what would be better to invest more in and why. And while we're at it, what about VTC vs UTC. UTC has wicked fast confirmation times compared to the 2.5min of VTC, and also offers asic resistance via scrypt-jane.

How many times do I have to register a new account before it actually takes I've tried about ten times now and my token is expired every time. Why don't you install a captcha? I've never had this problem before. Are you sure you really want new miners

I couldn't ever get vertcoind to compile on CentOS. I did however, reimage the server to Ubuntu and it worked like a charm. Might be an option for you.

Vertcoin-Pool - PPLNS
- 0% Fee
- 0% Mandatory Donation
- FAST - SAFE - RELIABLE - DDOS-Proof VPS SERVER
- New MPOS Bootstrap Template - Accurate/Real-Time Hash Rate
Direct your miners and gather the Crypto Coin of the future at my pool. Take advantage of no mandatory fees and fast payments! It is HIGHLY recommended to use a stable miner to mine Vertcoins like Vertminer.exe. May require reconfiguration ./vertminer -o 138.91.117.139:3333 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password Currently only 1 MH/s Pool Hash Rate. Will be implementing more changes and promotions. PLEASE help decentralize the Vertan Mining community and spread out! I highly suggest using P2Pool if you have over 1 MH/s. It is more beneficial for Vertans overall
