The 1080ti is just too risky to buy right now.  You can buy 4 polaris cards for 1 1080ti.  Capital recovery time is almost half for the 4x polaris.

Sure the 1080ti is expected to make more money eventually.  But that is pretty speculative right now.

i would not buy any card to mine right now.

Reason for not doing it are quite huge. i´ll give you some.

- they are all overpriced
- Difficulty is increasing at high levels.
- ETH PoS will destroy miners and almost 245.000Gh/s will be pointed somewhere else in search of a profitable coin which today does not exist, so probably if you are planning on buying to mine ETH, you may also consider that once PoS is applied no coin will be left profitable once all those hashrate is shared on other networks.
- AMD cards are good in Ethash algo but average on the others, while Nvidia is more of an "allrounder". You can get 32mh/s for ETH with an RX 570 4gb with a bit of luck (depending on memory), if not, just around 30mh/s, but you´ll get no more than 26mh/s with a very very very good GTX 1060. 1070's and 1070ti can do around 30-33mh/s so not the best. I have 5 RX 580 8gb that can do 32,3mh/s and payed for them half of the cost of a GTX 1070ti.

With the end of ETH, probably all gpus will make any other coin unprofitable unless somecoin takes the lead of ETH and increases it's price allowing you to mine for profit.

i you have the money and don't care about "if", buy a 1080ti or just wait to July for those 1180 or 1180ti which will be absolutely monsters. And if something goes wrong, well......you may be able to sell them with almost no money lost.

BTC no more than 6k by end of 2019. ETH no more than 300$ by end 2019. Huge market manipulation, huge amount of scammers and hypers.

^ is basically right.  Except that, if I had to drop $900 or so on gpus for mining, I would not buy a 1080ti.

In March-April 2017 I bought an RX 470 on sale for $143. I also bought 2x RX 480 on sale for $169 ea. In December 2017 I bought an RX 580 8GB Nitro+ for $279 and a couple weeks ago bought one for $369.

Early last year a 6x GPU mining rig could be built for ~$1200. Now that will get you 3x GPUs and the rest of the stuff.

Prices do suck right now. If only RX Vega was still $399 and $499 :/

Enough money to buy any reasonably priced GPU up to GTX 1080 Ti.

I think 1080ti is too expensive, personally I choose 1070ti besides its cheaper price also hash rate not too far with 1080ti in the same algorithm.

What would you buy right now for mining? Already have multi-GPU AMD and Nvidia.

except for the market situation back to the moon, I will buy:

AMD
RX580 8 GB (Powercolor)

NVIDIA
1070ti, and want to know about the new NVIDIA to be released in July

Why the "PowerColor". Are you talking about the RedDevil and Golden Triangle?

What?

My best 1070ti gets 440h/s on Equihash, while my best 1080ti gets 700h/s... both with the same overclock 75% power limit, +100/+150

1080ti is the best card all around, they are just too expensive right now.  Wait a month and they will start showing up on the second hand market as people start preparing to buy the 1180.

I get 562 sol/s @ 143w on my 1070ti FE using EWBF.  Settings in afterburner are:

80% power, +240 clock, +1000 memory (Samsung  Grin)

I wasn't going to throw my input into the thread, but it seems like there is quite the divide as to which card they would buy if budget wasn't much of a concern. You can probably get two 1080ti for the price that you'd end up paying for a 1180 or 2080. People are jumping ship with their miners and the people that bought the higher end cards are panicking more, because they have more invested into the operation. A lot of miners are willing to get rid of their cards for pretty cheap and I probably won't be buying a new card, at retail for a good long while.

My vote is 1080ti, without a doubt. Best card for the money.

There's no doubt that the 1080ti has the highest hash rates, but not every miner judges the value of a card based solely on its raw performance. If you factor in the increased electricity costs and higher upfront cost of a 1080ti, it will take a while to make up the difference between that card and a 1070ti despite the higher hash rates. Since we still don't know what the performance specs and availability of 1180s will be - not to mention the direction that cryptomining will take concerning ASICs, a moderately-priced card like the 1070ti seems like a good way to reduce the risk of the investment.

BTW, you should be able to squeeze more sols out of your 1070ti.  Mine does over 500 sol/s using DSTM 6 on Windows 10 at 80% power, +225 core and +400 memory.  It is also the primary GPU in my development machine and I often write code, surf the web, etc while it is mining at these speeds without much lag.

My current strategy is to get used 4xx/5xx. But the prices on ebay is still very high for used GPUs

Definitely the 1080ti.  It isn't going to become obsolete too soon and it tends to offer the best hash rates over a larger range of coins.

eBay is rarely a good place to find used GPUs- I typically find that prices there are much higher for things like GPUs (especially GPUs more than anything, but there are occasional good deals there) than other places like Bitcointalk. I visit the Computer Hardware section every other day, and I see used RX 570s and 580s every now and then right around the $200 price mark.

It's a shame prices are still so high right now- I'm personally staying away from the GPU side of things for now. Seems like most people and companies don't want to let go of their GPUs cheaply yet.

1080ti, 1080, and 1070ti are all good picks at the right price.  These all have at least 8gb in Ram and will still be relevant in the near future for mining.

Definitely a 1080 Ti... if you can get it for a good price.

I agree with Msobh. Wait a while before buying at this point.

Why is everyone recommending a 1080ti or any Nvidia card for that matter? Seems crazy with ETH/ Equihash Asics on the way, X16R profits drying up and new Gen 11 series cards expected in July.

Right now you can pick up an 8gb 580 for around $300 USD( Newegg) or you can pick up a 1080ti for $850.

-An 8gb 580 does around 1kh/s @ 100-120w on CNheavy. So on coins Loki or Haven you would be making around $2.50 per day.
-On Whattotime it looks like the most profitable coin for a 1080ti is Zencash making around $3.20 per day( And using more power than the 580 on CNheavy)

1080ti = 265 day ROI( gross)
8gb RX580= 120 day ROI ( Gross).

Based on your calculations it may seem like the RX580 is the best option and is most probably the case for "regular" home miners. But when you start considering large scale mining operations when efficiency and density is a factor, the 1080ti may be a better option. The 1080ti offers more hash power, less power consumption, less fixed costs on motherboards/cpus/ram/etc, and even higher resale value.

I never said I recommended a 1080 Ti at current prices. Only if you can get a used one much cheaper than what they sell for these days. To buy one now at current prices would be nuts.

Between AMD Navi and the next gen Nvidia cards being in the near future, it might be better simply to wait.

You can buy an inexpensive GPU for the GTX 1080 Ti. AMD and Nvidia have a multi-GPU. The hashrate / power ratio is the best.

I would go for the 1080ti for a couple of good reasons:

1. it's the best in terms of hashrate / power consumption ratio
2. it's more "future proof" compared to other GPUs because its relatively new
3. you'll get more density with your mining rigs and overall spend less on motherboards, cpus, etc.

the 1080ti would def. be a good choice like  MrN1ce9uy said put it. but also its late along the year now and new generation is coming out really soon. you could also wait for next gen that u can get at least %20 more power with close cost. better in my opinion for long term projects

My choice is GTX 1070ti or 1080ti. But if you choose from them I still choose 1080ti as they are newer and sell them is not difficult. The choice is up to you.
