Hey guys,

don't know if this belongs here because it is LTC-related but the tech should be similar right...?

I built a mining rig with 4 x Saphire R9 280x.

At first I had it running with two GPUs and everything was fine. Now I plugged in two more and something weird happens. In one corner of the mainboard I see smoke rising and after a while it catches fire. It's in a pretty random spot because there are no transistors or anything. Right besides the RAM.

I also put in a new power supply to get enough power for the 4 cards. This here: http://www.alternate.de/LEPA/LEPA+G1600-MA-EU_1600W,_Netzteil/html/product/1010582/

The mainboard is ASRock 970 Extreme 3 R2.0.

At first I thought it might be beacuse the board is not grounded. All the stuff is just sitting on a metal table. So I hooked the board up to the table with a wire. Didn't change anything. If I switch off one of the GPUs it still starts burning but takes way longer.

Anybody experienced something like this? Maybe I just got a bad board?

Any help very muh appreciated!

 Huh Huh Huh

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

You should use powered raisers. Currents draw for the video cards on 12V plane on mbd are way too high.

I just read about that one minute ago. Didn't know that the cards still draw power from the mainboard even if they are connected to the PSU directly.

Just ordered two on amazon, hopefuly thats gonna solve the issue...

Thank you!

Did it solved the problem? I have almost the same issue...
And if anyone know, how to connect them when using 2 PSUs.
Is it better to connect all PowerRisers to the 1st PSU (which powers the MB) or they should be connected to the same PSU where GPU Power PCI-e connect to....
PR = Power Riser

PR1 to PSU1, GPU1 to PSU1,
PR2 to PSU1, GPU2 to PSU1,
PR3 to PSU2, GPU3 to PSU2,
PR4 to PSU2, GPU4 to PSU2...

Thanks in advance!

yes that actually solved the problem.

i ended up cancelling that order and making my own powered risers out of normal risers like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76121.0

way cheaper.

on my rig everything is running on the same 1600w PSU but if you have two PSUs it doesn't really matter what's where. Think of it like a power plug, it doesn't care what's connected to it. Just don't put too much on one...
