Why all the "official" sites related to bitcoin - bitcointalk.org, bitcoin.org, bitcoin.it - are on different domains?

The forum was founded in 2009 by Satoshi and Sirius. It replaced a SourceForge forum.

bitcointalk.org was separated from bitcoin.org to emphasize that it is not official in any way.

no such thing as "official" in bitcoin.

i could in reality build a BC client, but instead of calling it bitcoin, i could call it "buttcoin" and you would trade "buttcoins" or even [insert name here]. and it would still work with the bitcoin blockchain and its peers and everything.

The only official thing in Bitcoin is 51% of hashing power.

Vlad, I hope you have had some SEO's on top of hitting your forums for the keyword "Bitcoin Forums"

Also, I think this page https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_Forum should be edited to reflect changes in having a page with the word "The" and "Bitcoin Forum" .. maybe now "The First Bitcoin Forum"

FWIW, AFAIK bitcoin.org and bitcointalk.org are owned by sirius, while bitcoin.it is owned by MagicalTux (Mark Karpeles, owner of mtgox).

The word "Bitcoin" has many meanings. One of them is a project to create and promote a p2p cryptocurrency. Another is an open-source project to create software for use by the Bitcoin cryptocurrency project. bitcoin.org is the official site of the latter, but not of the former. bitcointalk.org is the de-facto official forum of the former, and bitcoin.it is the de-facto official wiki of the former.

I have a super pro SEO man appointed to have a look into this matter soon, with a modest budget so far. https://bitcoin.org.uk/forums has moved from 10th page a week ago to 2-5 spot on google depending on country. It is not easy to dislodge such behemoth as bitcointalk from the first spot. It will take some time and money.

On bing (for UK), we are in the first spot for "bitcoin forums" already. Though, it is not that important really.
