A couple weeks ago I purchase $100 of BTC thru Coinbase. I transferred the money to Waves exchange. I think after fees I had about $96. With this $96 of BTC I traded for Starta(STA) at .45 per Sta..Later when Sta reached .84 I traded back to Btc. my BTC USD value showed I had a value of $47.50. If I bought at .45 and sold at .84 I would have thought my money would have almost doubled. Instead It got cut by 50%. Did I do something wrong or did waves or someone else?
I have attached a page from Coinbase and one of Waves transaction, hopefully you can read it and explain to me what happened

the first columns are coinbase

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Why did you need to repost this question without reference to the previous thread?

Because I thought that thread was dead. it was along time ago. Its way down the post line and I didn't think anybody would be looking that deep into the posts.

the other thread was created only a week ago, I wouldn't say a long time ago
anyway, please provide a clearer screenshot of your trades on the exchange
I can't see a thing on that image

With this $96 of BTC I traded for Starta(STA) at .45 per Sta..Later when Sta reached .84 I traded back to Btc. my BTC USD value showed I had a value of $47.50. If I bought at .45 and sold at .84 I would have thought my money would have almost doubled. Instead It got cut by 50%.
---snip---
exchange Sell: Starta/BTC              -136.8 Starta
18:38                                            .00547473BTC
---snip---
Exchange Buy: Starta/Btc                +98.4 Starta
16.43                                             .00983803
it seems it was the other way around
Buy: +98.4 Starta , 0.00983803 BTC = ~0.00099979 BTC/Starta (0.99mBTC)
Sell: -136.8 Starta , 0.00547473 BTC = ~0.00040019 BTC/Starta (0.40mBTC)
but please do give us a better screenshot to confirm this

what happened is that you simply bought some altcoin while it was worth much higher and then sold it when its price dropped a lot. and doing that you lost nearly half of what you invested. then you are looking at prices elsewhere thinking that is when you sold your coins. but what you should really do is that check the price before buying and selling on the platform you are selling at not elsewhere or at other times.

Thank you for the response's. I don't know how to make it a clearer copy. I searched for an hour for a way to post it in the first place and finally found IMGUR.com, alas the screen print didn't come out well. I will continue to learn and find a better way to create a link.

Not as an excuse but I am 63 years old with limited computer experience and even less crypto experience. I am trying to grow my retirement income.

The chart I typed is per letter of what the screen print page says, and if that can't be a sure thing, use it as an hypothetical.

What do you mean, I did it backwards? Waves says to buy Starta here and sell Starta there. I thought it was pretty straight forward.

I need a dotted line to follow.

Brainstorm!

Correct me if I'm wrong

I bought Starta when it was low, but Btc was high, and vice versa on the sell side

imgur was a good choice and it has nothing to do with a bad/too small screenshot. Simply hit "print" on your keyboard, open paint and insert the screenshot, upload it to imgur and post the link. If you have Windows 7 or higher, use the "Snipping Tool", with a MAC hit shift+⌘+3 to make a screenshot.

I understand that logic. But it doesn't change my mind when I bought at 45 and sold at 82 It seems I should have almost doubled instead of dropping by 50%. I will try it as you say.

My previous post was wrong, but I guess I don't understand the numbers you are giving. It looks to me like you bought STA when the price was 0.000083 BTC (0.0113 / 136.8 ) and sold STA when the price was 0.000040 BTC (0.0054 / 136.8 ).

Doesn't it matter about Starta? I bought  STARTA at .45 and sold it at .82 or .84. that is almost double. This is what I don't understand. Please show me the dotted line.

You didn't trade it for dollars, you traded it for BTC, so the dollar prices (if that's what those are) are irrelevant.

What people are saying is that you bought STARTA at .82 or 84 and sold it at .45.
this can be found out rather easily, if you submit a full size screenshot, you have Windows, so do this:
click Print Screen
go to www.imgur.com
click "New upload"
click Ctrl + V
this will upload your screenshot,
simply copy your URL and paste here, and it should be easily readable if you follow those steps

in discussion of the price, you can basically just summarize it as:
X is worth 0.1 bitcoin, which right now is around $700
if bitcoin drops 10% in value, generally, X would also drop atleast 10%

so, profiting in BTC would involve X going up in price in comparison with BTC,
like X is worth 0.11 bitcoin instead = 10% profit in BTC
if BTC remained at the exact same USD value as it was when you bought initially, then you earned 10% in USD too, assuming you'd cash out right away(before the market moves).

however, as you can see right now, the market is dropping. if BTC drops 50%, even if X remains at 0.1 BTC each, you still lost half your investment in USD.

but BTC hasn't dropped 50% in a long time now, so that's not what has happened here(in relation to what you wrote earlier)

Either way, if you send that screenshot I'm sure it'll be clear what happened.
you lost ~50% and you have two prices: 0.45 and .82
anyone who reads these two prices and hears you lost ~50%, would say you bought at .82 and sold at .45
