I just need an answer on this one. I'm a full member with 100 merit. If for example I merited someone's post, will it decrease my merit to 99 and rank down to member? And also how many merit can I give to the same person. Sorry but I still don't get how this works. Answers will be very much appreciated

No.
You can read more here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

To check your sendable merit (sMerit) just click +Merit, upper right.

You have received a total of 100 merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have 5 sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.

how many merit can I give to the same person.
Answer:
Is there a limit on how many merits I can send?

Yes. You can give a max of 50 merit to a user every 30 days.

No. Merit and sMerit are different (sendable merit). You can't lose or spend the merit you've earned.

There are two kind of merits:

- Merits: you receive it from someone. and you can't give or lose it.
- SMertis ( Sendable Mertit) : if you have Smertis, you can send this point for post which you are interested. And Your Smertits will be - some points. (the same when you send)

=> Your rank can't down if you give merit to someone.

I guess it's time I made a post about the merit system, and the types of merit.

You have 100 merit in your 'merit chest', and this is what you need for ranking. At the moment, you can't lose that, or give it away. You may have been given some sMerit in the initial airdrop, and these are of no use to you in your personal ranking, but you can award them to help others. To check to see how much ( if any ) sMerit you have, then click on the merit button at the top right of any post. You will see your count in the window that opens. If you don't have a merit button, then you don't have any to award.

You won't have any earned sMerits to award, as you have not yet received any merits, but you should have some of the initial airdrop sMerits.
