I've seen a decent bit of auctions going through with crypto. What everyone is doing is auctioning a single us penny (because its tangible and its not cryptocurrency being sold) but the doge's or btc's are a gift with the purchase. I've seen plenty of these go through recently with no problem

If you do this look at some others. most offer the penny for pick up only so they don't need to pay shipping to the few dumb-asses who want the penny

A lot of ebay sellers list btc/altcoins like this

Buy a pen get x amount of btc/altcoin free

That way when they send the pen in the mail with tracking paypal can not reverse the payment. Or at least that is the assumption.

Until the fraud, hacked or dog ate my PC accusations come in.

Yup, I lost a whole bunch of Litecoins that way last year.
Lesson learned. Never use Paypal for crypto transactions. Never ever, ever!

What happens when they say there was no pen in the signed for package, but just a twig?

Exactly. Until they specifically add a provision for selling crypto currency it's not a good idea in my opinion. All they really need to do though is add a rule that states each party will post their wallet addresses before the transaction, then the seller posts the blockchain info after sending the btc. This is the only proof needed for any btc transaction. Then eBay can start reaping huge profits by taking their insane 13% of each transaction.

It's a very simple process to implement and the blockchain is the best record you could ever need for proof of sending and payment. Hopefully they will up their game and implement it in the near future.
