I'm using Google's DNS servers. For the past 1.5 days I haven't been able to access MtGox even after clearing all system/browser cach. I'm curious if Google is doing something.

EDIT: Wrong category - can this be moved to Technical?

Somehow Google DNS adds an IP that is not in my records:
Code:
$ dig mtgox.com @8.8.8.8

; <<>> DiG 9.7.1-P2 <<>> mtgox.com @8.8.8.8
;; global options: +cmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 57886
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:

;; ANSWER SECTION:
mtgox.com. 79921 IN A 174.121.74.59
mtgox.com. 79921 IN A 74.52.143.58

;; SERVER: 8.8.8.8#53(8.8.8.8)
;; WHEN: Sat Mar  5 14:44:25 2011
;; MSG SIZE  rcvd: 59
Whereas my bind installation says just:
Code:
$ dig mtgox.com

; <<>> DiG 9.7.1-P2 <<>> mtgox.com
;; global options: +cmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 18322

I confirm that google's DNS servers are returning results different from normal DNS servers, for mtgox.com. They are probably disregard TTL and use some other caching approach.

Anyway, who in his right mind would use their DNS servers?

I do not see why google would want to run these free DNS servers other than in order to "organise information" for NSA.

I can agree with that.  Smiley I switched to them a while back because I was too inpatient for my personal websites DNS to update.

Actually no, DNS queries are a nice way to collude additional information about users, that can be used to target Ads ^^

I click Project Dev by mistake.  Grin

Does anyone know why MtGox goes offline alot though? I'm sure its goes off/on, but it takes time for people like me to get the updated DNS info.

Does the board have moderators to merge all these duplicate threads? Smiley

Merging topics is usually too confusing.

No section seems much better than this one, so I'm not going to move this topic. I believe the OP is capable of moving the topic, though, if he thinks some other section is better.

There's an issue with MtGox DNS, it's not Google.

Says someone who knows DNS:   "Those IPs are coming from that zone's primary. The other authority (ns2.theplanet.com) gives only 174.121.74.59.  Sounds like whoever controls the zone needs to fix it up, or talk to the hoster, etc."

I am wondering if Mr. Gox is doing this on purpose for protection? How this protects him I don't know. But ThePlanet/ their resellers have good networks I believe.
