Sorry if this is a stupid question, but im having trouble.

I have a ga-970a-ds3p and 2 msi r9 280x. the mobo has 1 x16 and 1 x4 slot..

Question..

Which cable would be best for the second card? powered or no? would a non powered 1x to x16 cable work?
