Dear all,

for convenience and on popular demand we have created a Dash PPA for Ubuntu - so installation on Ubuntu Linux is much easier now.

Just do

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dash.org/dash
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dashd dash-qt

and your Dash wallet is ready to use

Enjoy  Smiley

You can't win with Mrs Thatcher.

First she makes the chronic criticism that there's no dissent in the community. Then she makes the criticism that there's dissent.

If Dash survives harsh (perhaps unfair) criticism it will be stronger for the experience .

But I don't see that happening.

Rather than address real issues like decentralization theater, we get empty marketing fluff about DashNation community coordination.

All the SEO gaming and #TagFarming in the world won't help Dash get to 100% in StackExchange.

It's been stuck at 10% for months.  Sad there are no real developers in this sleazy community, only degenerate greedy gambler casino types.

In this post-DAO-hack world, Dash's weak fungiblity, lax security, and inattention to detail aren't going to cut it.

SFYL.

This is very cool, and I just installed it on my laptop as I always launch it via terminal normally, but I thought I'd get with the program (and try the PPA out).  I'm wondering if this is in fact a safer way to install the Dash wallet?  Or can this PPA be hacked easier than the git or website download?  Just wondering, as we can't check the hash this way??

Good question! See my comments below.

Be very careful when following advice from community developers. PPA installation is NOT optimal from a security perspective. Learn from other recent failures:

DASH paper wallet faulty RNG (January 4th - April 5th, 2016):

Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately we broke paper.dash.org on January 4th and the seeding process for generating a wallet was insecure since then. There are no known Dash thefts that have taken place because of this (yet), but if you created a wallet using paper.dash.org between January 4th and April 5th, please move your money to a new place.

We take these kinds of issues quite seriously and believe it's our fiduciary responsibility to create the most secure environment for users to store value safely in our ecosystem. To address the issue we’ve reverted the patch that caused the issue and have also reverted paper.dash.org to an earlier, much safer version.

Thanks,

Evan Duffield

The safest way to install Dash is to clone the git repo and use gitian to create the binaries and compare the gitian.sigs with other builds/sources.

PPA is a common and convenient way for Ubuntu users to populate their system - the packages are signed, the source package has the exact same hash value than git and can be verified as well.

I don't say this form of distribution is safe from hacking, same goes for Windows Update and Apple Store. It's the users choice to trust my digital signatures or not.

Nice BTC and Dash technical analysis (price) by by Aaron Casillas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw4LdtG_v0I

TLDR: buy btc and buy dash

It is a good analysis, and I don't want to take anything from it, but... just buy the dip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0akBdQa55b4

A small detail for Moocowmoo's awesome masternode.me pages

if a user uses dash.conf instead of masternode.conf then this

Code:
masternode start-missing "My wallet password"

results in:

Code:
{
    "overall" : "Successfully started 0 masternodes, failed to start 0, total 0",
    "detail" : {
    }
}

instead

Code:
masternode start "My wallet password"

has to be used.

Code:
Masternode successfully started

Also you might think of placeing a note somewhere that when your wallet password contains spaces you have to put it into those " ".
Thank you for your masternode service. Smiley

General notice:
Please do not use dash.conf for local settings of your remote masternode, use masternode.conf even if you have 1 masternode only. Or at least make sure you have commented out masternode=1  in dash.conf (or changed it to masternode=0) when you done. Otherwise masternode will restart every time you start your local wallet i.e. it will drop to the end of the payment queue.

I'd explicitly removed all dash.conf instructions because they'd become deprecated.
I'll add a note explaining this.

Also you might think of placeing a note somewhere that when your wallet password contains spaces you have to put it into those " ".

This is a very good point. I'll add it.

Thank you for your masternode service. Smiley

It all fits together perfectly now. The last puzzle piece I actually received from the very perceptive TanteStefana, so thanks for that.
What we knew already:

CryptoNote: NSA group project

Nicolas van SaberhAgen = alleged creator of CryptoNote protocol, when in reality an inside joke, see bold letters

Bytecoin: First currency using CryptoNote, proven scam due to premine and broken anonymity caused by that premine.

Monero: "Bitmonero" as it was called was launched by an anonymous entity and almost definitely by the same entity that launched Bytecoin in an attempt to get rid of the exposed Bytecoin premine scam desaster and reboot the same trash with the same objective: Government honeypot

Last puzzle piece:
iCEBREAKER: I came to the conclusion that he's not Eduardo de Castro after all but rather a government operative there to create tension within the crypto community among privacy minded individuals and pull more people into the NSA-Monero-honeypot.

Dash (see? Not off-topic, dear mods!) is the only majorly successful cryptocurrency offering efficient anonymity without being a honeypot-scam ran by the government, that's why government agents have been incessantly attacking it for the last 2 years. No sane person on earth would be trolling the same project for that amount of time and with that frequency without it being their job. I know I will be quoted on that previous sentence, but no argument you can ever make will change the truth of that statement, government shills.

You've been exposed again. Better relaunch another CryptoNoteClone!

I've always thought this about Monero, but I never thought IB was trolling because it's his job..... It does make sense though.

Someone is willing to pay a heavy premium to move funds from XMR to DASH right now. Should offer a good arbitrage opportunity or a good chance to invest in XMR if you were planning to do so (I know we have considerable overlap in our investor base).
