What privacy problem ? Maybe you are confusing Dash with Monero ?

Monero :

* easily traceable first two years --> https://www.finder.com.au/researchers-say-they-can-trace-over-80-of-monero-transactions
* official Monero website got hacked (this is more recent) --> https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2019/11/official-monero-website-is-hacked-to-deliver-currency-stealing-malware/

oo thats a good one Smiley) he probably meant previous articles on tracing privatesend like https://www.reddit.com/r/dashpay/comments/bj7kh0/i_traced_a_privatesend_this_time_no_educated_guess/

That thread has already proven to be full of inconsistencies, and was coming directly from a Monero supporter (Flenst) with a history of failed attempts to discredit Dash PrivateSend
(which is why he titled his Reddit thread 'i traced a privatesend this time no educated guess'). He also created a second Reddit thread about Dash PrivateSend named
'Around 13% of DASH's privateSends are traceable to their origin' in the Dash-unfriendly sub-Reddit 'CryptoCurrency" shortly after creating his DashPay Reddit thread, indicating to me a form
of Dash smear campagne at the time. See : https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/bkwat1/around_13_of_dashs_privatesends_are_traceable_to/

* Flenst thought it was a 4 round mixed PrivateSend transaction that he could trace. Turns out it was a 2 round mixed PrivateSend transaction, which of course is the very lowest form of mixing
that Dash offers optionally. Users are sacrificing privacy for speed, when they set back the default number of rounds from 4 to 2 rounds.

UdjinM6 : Dash Lead Developer

* Flenst understanding of how Dash PrivateSend works had quite a few incorrect assumptions, making his thread even less of an educated guess

* Flenst claim to trace a 2 rounds mixed PrivateSend transaction was tied to a fixed known originating address at the start of the mixing process, something users should avoid during mixing
(fixed addresses like that of an Dash exchange address, that can then be traced back and forward by blockchain analyzers)

* Flenst never manage to produce a tool to verifiable de-anonymize Dash PrivateSend transactions, it was just a whole lot of assuming (spread over two Reddit threads) on his part so far i could tell.

To conclude :

Dash users that want to mix and use PrivateSend transactions are responsible for not including any fixed known originating addresses (exchange addresses for example) at the start of their mixing process, as that will negate any privacy build-up. Dash users are also responsible for choosing the level of privacy by leaving the mixing rounds on either 4 rounds (which is the default option and provides good privacy) or by raising the number of rounds to mix all the way to 16 rounds (which provides very strong privacy, but mixing takes longer) or by lowering the number of rounds to mix to 2 (which provides the weakest form of privacy, but mixing goes a lot faster). That is the part that Dash leaves optionally for users, so they can set their own level of privacy on their transactions. Also Dash users should never send the exact same amount before mixing and after mixing through PrivateSend.

If Dash users lower the number of rounds from 4 to 2 and use a fixed known originating address before the mixing, they may as well not do any mixing at all as it will be pretty pointless.
The correct Reddit title should have been 'Around 13% of DASH's privateSends are traceable to their origin, when using a fixed known originating address', but i'm not even sure he verifiable proved even that  Undecided

The reason Dashcoin (Cryptonote) is pretty much dead is because their main developer sold his Github access to Dash back in 2015,
during our name transition from Darkcoin to Dash, to avoid name confusion and for us to get the opportunity to claim the Dash name.

Activity on that cryptonote project then pretty much dried up. Activity was pretty low to begin with during that time as their main developer lost
interest in his cryptonote project, so far i can remember. Even coinmarketcap has stopped tracking this cryptonote project : https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dashcoin/

I wonder if arielbit (former Dashcoin cryptonote supporter, turned into Dash troll) is still pissed about it or if he moved on...  Undecided

Thanks for the explanation qwizzie!

Also nice and detailed PrivateSend info, good to know.

Thanks for making some light about Dash privacy, as I wanted to buy some Dash because I think privacy coins will have a good future, but I was a bit hesitant to be honest reading here and there (on this thread) about Dash's privacy.

Anyone know of a more reliable Android app for monitoring masternode status than the DashCentral one? I am finding it's not very reliable in accurately monitoring the status when the MN is in error or goes offline.  Embarrassed

Two  questions :

* Do you  have Dash Central remote data and automatic restart  activated  on www.dashcentral.org (My Account / Account Settings) ?
* Do you have push up and / or email  notifications enabled on www.dashcentral.org (Notifications) ?

Personally i don't know any other safe and reliable Android app that does what Dash Central offers.
Maybe someone else can help you with this, as there are more crypto projects that offer masternode services.

I shouldn't put bad ideas into ppl's mind (don't like missuse/bloating of blockchains) but what came into my mind was this:

What if you custom made encode the private keys and store this on the blockchain of said coin itself?
This way you are not prone of losing your private keys ever as long as said blockchain exists. Nothing can harm it. Best safe place ever.

Edit: Ah I see you refered to executable code. No I meant encoded data with "code" just in a way no ones know it. Super secret safe.

Weak link would shift to the encode / decode process, if you somehow loose access to the decode part or it gets decoded due to some
new development ....

I don't see how custom made encoding can be decoded if you make it right. It's way harder to decode it when the encoding algo isn't known. And if you have no clue what the data shall represent at the end you are lost.
Of course you have to use password protected encoding.

I actually did protect data this way. You encode them with a known encodeing algo and additional with a custom made. That's why I came to this idea. Instead storing the result somewhere private...this would be nice to put onto a blcokchain.

Yes the encoding process and the password will still be a troubleing point to keep safe.

Announcing the Release of Dash Platform v0.11!
This release includes the ability to register public data contracts, DAPI for web browsers, and installation packages for Evonet and local development.
https://blog.dash.org/announcing-the-release-of-dash-platform-v0-11-d1b7238ed0e6
The release of DASH platform v0.11 boosted its price to the moon, after very long correction time.

I congratulate to all DASH investors and thank to the DASH team for all their hard works behind the scene as well as @Tungi and @qwizzie for all of your news updated very frequently in the ANN thread.

Just one question, I am surprised to see the volume of DASH remains not too high, compares to many recently born coins. Any clarification on this phenomenon, please (just my curiosity). I hope to see higher volume for DASH next months.

Thanks to the ever so knowledgeable and helpful qwizzie!! I don't have the remote data and automatic restart enabled so I'll look into that later today (looks like it takes a bit to setup) and I only had email notifications enabled; I've now added the Android pushover notification which I'm assuming is for the Android DaahCentral app.

Dash (DASH) Beats the Bearish Pressure; Notes an Escalation of 27%

Dash cryptocurrency saw its price shot up above $65 yesterday in the second half. This escalation was of more than 41%, and the coin started forming a bullish trendline after it corrected down. The corrections took the DASH price down at the 61.80% Fib level, which corresponds to the $53.36 price mark.

The DASH bear trend

DASH versus Bitcoin on weekly log chart.

2020 has been a very strong year for Dash so far, but despite that Dash is still in a bear channel its been in since 2018 or earlier. Back in January Dash almost broke above but ultimately ran out of momentum on that occasion.

chart

In the last day or two Dash is again testing the top trendline, meeting resistance where you might expect.

A close up on 1hr timescale looks like this.

In the wake of covid 29 pandemic, the economy is probably heading into a great depression. Dash, and all cryptos  and gold and silver should do very well as FIAT turns to toilet paper. Actually that might be a handy use for fiat given the shortages of toilet roll.

Back to the Dash versus Bitcoin pair will Dash be able to start a new bull trend against bitcoin ? In short who knows? Huh

But some factors to weigh in.. Dash has continued to innovate with Dash Platform now released, we should hopefully see some great new features starting to appear in the Dash ecosystem. Like the long promised decentralised user accounts and usernames things like that giving an experience much friendlier for crypto noobs. Dash should be implement full functionality including privatesend on light wallets. Chainlocks and instantsend give an immutable blockchain in seconds.

However bitcoin being the biggest crypto with its supply going to cut in half will be seen as the premier crypto to use as a safe haven. In this use case people will not really care about speed of transactions. Also chainlocks is a double edged sword. It gives Dash protection against 51% mining attacks and mining centralisation BUT it introduces the temptation to lean more heavily on chainlocks as the main method of securing the blockchain, seen as a 'cheaper' way of doing it than proof of work. This line of thinking takes Dash down the road of proof of stake, at least to some degree. The markets show that proof of stake does not attract the same value as proof of work in crypto. This temptation to 'improve' Dash by messing around with block reward distribution introduces a lot of risk and uncertainty. In my opinion proof of stake is the wrong direction for Dash. I worry Dash will go the wrong way.

It is very useful analysis recent panic situation all around world but one thing is clear crypto is here to stay. That is future tech who will become first choice of mainstream investors and it will go rapidly but this is only for long term investors.
