Even though the article you linked to was dated 22nd May 2020 there was some relevance to what is happening in crypto land but sadly not must correlation between DASH and the article. Thank you for the link nonetheless.

Let me help you out there. The relevant points as far as "correlation" goes are these:

Quote
31% of the world’s population, or around 1.7 billion people, are unbanked

Quote
challenges providing the needed documentation to financial institutions being prohibitively far away

Quote
it was prohibitively expensive to have one of these accounts

Quote
67 percent of these transactions will take place digitally

Quote
The COVID-19 pandemic has made many people nervous about how the use of physical cash could contribute to spreading the virus

Quote
According to the World Economic Forum, governments around the world are promoting the use of digital payments to reduce physical contact and thus help minimize the spread of coronavirus

Quote
For end-users, one potential drawback of decentralized platforms is the perception that there is a high learning curve involved

Quote
Since decentralized payment systems are still relatively a new concept, users do not find these easy to use

Now, a blockchain needs two core properties to address all these priorities at once:

1. a mining protocol that works like bitcoin's so that the coin is forced to endure a "right of passage" phase where it can survive long enough to eek out its supply and therefore accrue public endorsement as a durable monetary asset

2. a service protocol that works like Visa's where the public can easily access, buy, spend transfer and store value on a competitive performance basis with modern payment networks

The "correlation" with the article is that Dash is the only digital asset that supports both properties on chain rather than off chain.

That means it can address these issues directly where Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV and Cardano can only do so by "standing on one foot". They are all mono-layered financial protocols and therefore need to do it with off-chain facilities. (Otherwise known as "banks", even if they have a fancy title like "Lightning Network"). Doesn't mean those other networks aren't investible or might make people rich or get large market share. They're just useless at turning their gold nuggets into gold coins on their own blockchains.

Finally, one more aspect that's not even mentioned in this article is that coronavirus "central command" is trying to outlaw paper cash. (Of course because it might be infected with coronavirus !) What we gonna do then ? You need blockchain money that can:

 • move fast
 • not be defaulted on
 • inherits the most trusted monetary codebase on the planet
 • does not have to compromise its mining protocol to get performance

"Cash" to most people that value it does not mean paper fiat. It means barter. You need a blockchain that can turn gold nuggets into coins in an instant. In that respect there's only 1 blockchain with any history under its belt that is mined, inherits bitcoin's monetary properties and can function as fast as visa without speeding up its blocktime.

This is great news. It never ceases to amaze me about how active the whole DASH community is. How many other crypto out there have this sort of far reaching appeal with mechanisms in place to engage its investors and users?

I find Messari very useful, as it has numerous metrics, filters, provides live data and you can select which cryptocurrencies to monitor.

A couple of days ago I was talking to a code programmer, and he was commenting to me, that in current cryptocurrencies, most are clones of BTC, or seek to fill niches where BTC does not go ... that is not something that surprises me.

I told him about Dash, and he told me that Dash will survive thanks to node incentives, and the budget to incentivize projects, since obtaining fixed returns of more than 6% today is already an important achievement.

Lastly he told me that only IOTA could break the crypto market in the long term if it manages to complete its roadmap.

Does anyone use or know IOTA and that potential that this man told me about? ... I saw it very convinced in his words, but he also told me that IOTA could go to 0, but Dash possibly not.

Thank you and best regards.

"What Is Dash?" 2 New Explainer Videos Released!

Every company or organization should have a succinct, informative explainer video. Dash's video was released in 2016 and featured the old logo, so it was due for a refresher. In this episode of CATV, Tao looks at that old video, and the two recently released versions. He offers his props and critiques, and offers suggestions for a killer explainer video.

I recently found out about the possibility of shared masternodes for dash. So there are various websites that offer such an service, do you think that maybe one provider of shared masternodes could become too powerful?

My Initial Thoughts on Dash's Economics and Functionality Proposal

Recently, the Dash Core Group did a live presentation on several aspects of Dash's economics and functionality. They touched on aspects of Dash such as the block reward allocation, the flexibility of treasury funds, fees and masternode voting participation. In this CATV video, Tao goes over the problems that each of them have, and the solutions offered up as a future proposal by the DCG team.

Thanks for watching!

Excellent news. If this format continues it is clear DASh will become more and mainstream.

As a preference it would be great if the major cryptos were all accepted at all retail outlets regardless of the type of business but seeing DASH making inroads such as these means a lot. DASH really is going places.

I recently found out about the possibility of shared masternodes for dash. So there are various websites that offer such an service, do you think that maybe one provider of shared masternodes could become too powerful?

These are the hosting services i know of, but only a few of them provide shared hosting (most seem to require the full 1000 Dash)

https://docs.dash.org/en/stable/masternodes/hosting.html

I also found another site that seems more focused on shared masternode services : https://www.cryptomorrow.com/2019/06/01/sharedmasternode-services/
I don't know how accurate / up to date this site is or how reliable the stated shared services are. Some of them do match on our own Dash hosting services listing.

The shared services are not trustless of nature, meaning they require a level of trust to be placed into these services and into the people behind these services.
They are 'trusted' services.

Some exchanges are also implementing (or are about to implement) staking on their platforms, this is different then shared hosting but interesting nonetheless.
Link : https://www.kraken.com/en-us/features/staking-coins

With regards to Pumuckel21 question, i think it depends on the profitability that is being offered by these shared services. Meanwhile Dash Core Group is trying to improve its
trustless full masternodes offering by proposing a change to the blockreward allocation : https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/consensus-mechanisms.49135/page-3#post-221975

This could make Dash full masternodes more attractive to investors and in time more competitive to centralized (shared) services like the ones mentioned above.

Dash Economics Proposal, Crypto Around the World, Anypay vs. BTC...and more! | CATV LIVE

Dash Core Group recently did a live presentation about Dash's economics and functionality, where they offered a proposal to solve issues. I look at crypto news from Japan, Canada, and Venezuela, and get to the bottom of why Anypay is in an on-again/off-again relationship with Bitcoin. All that and much more on this weekend's CATV LIVE!

As do i. To be fair though, it is not just the case of trying to improve Dash trustless full masternodes by re-allocating more of the blockrewards to masternodes (from 45% to 54%).
There is also the case of trying to flatten Dash circulating supply during the next five years and trying to get a grip on the sell pressure (which seems to mostly come from miners
immediately selling all their mined Dash, regardless of the price).

I have masternodes myself and i have stopped selling my masternode payments months ago. I wonder how many miners are in a situation that they can afford to do the same,
or even care all that much about Dash longterm.

The way i see it, if this proposal passes Dash will be more or less returning to its original masternode payment schedule, while still being able to get funding for its decentralized budget.

Original Masternode Payment Schedule in 2014 (note : there was no decentralized budget then, just rewards for masternodes and miners and it was the main reason that made me
invest longterm in Dash) :

if(nHeight > 158000) ret += blockValue / 20; //25.0% - 2014-10-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*1)) ret += blockValue / 20; //30.0% - 2014-11-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*2)) ret += blockValue / 20; //35.0% - 2014-12-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*3)) ret += blockValue / 40; //37.5% - 2015-01-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*4)) ret += blockValue / 40; //40.0% - 2015-02-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*5)) ret += blockValue / 40; //42.5% - 2015-03-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*6)) ret += blockValue / 40; //45.0% - 2015-04-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*7)) ret += blockValue / 40; //47.5% - 2015-05-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*9)) ret += blockValue / 40; //50.0% - 2015-07-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*11)) ret += blockValue / 40; //52.5% - 2015-09-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*13)) ret += blockValue / 40; //55.0% - 2015-11-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*15)) ret += blockValue / 40; //57.5% - 2016-01-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*17)) ret += blockValue / 40; //60.0% - 2016-03-23

We changed above Masternode Payment Schedule in 2015, when Evan Duffield introduced Dash decentralized budget.
So instead of reaching 60% for masternodes, and 40% for miners at some point in 2016, the schedule settled on 45% masternodes, 45% miners, 10% decentralized budget.
(current situation)

The Masternode Payment Schedule change being proposed by Dash Core Group recently (2020) will return us pretty close to that once planned 60% for masternodes / 40% miners
(namely 54% masternodes, 36% miners, 10% budget), but at a much slower rate (spread over 5 1/2 years).

I can live with that, as i believe this will improve Dash economics in the longterm.

Looking back, the original masternode payment schedule had an incredibly high rate of change, a masternode reward increase & miners reward decrease of every 1 or 2 months.
That will not be the case here, it will be spread out over a long period of time.
