What the fuck is happening to darkcoin. Seriously.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

Please launch DARKERCOIN with 5% premine of 100 billion DarkerCOINS. I want to invest in your IPO!!

You already invested into a coin with dev having 25% of issued coins.

where are you getting this info from

stop spreading fud

If you check the first blocks and how the coins moved after, you'll find wallets where coins were consolidated about the same time, here are some of them:
http://explorer.darkcoin.io/address/cbyT4TTmzQTstMMQsn4qnuzYv7pToysMxD
http://explorer.darkcoin.io/address/cmBVfrgkBuagRy8fE9MJHfSMhf3PZgQxMP
http://explorer.darkcoin.io/address/cfm1sgj5yrPCAKpjFgi7HmzhuDF4SZurSc

The block reward already dropped from 500 to <25 (>20x drop or 4 complete halving), the initial reward formula favored only early adopters that's why (as told in the following comment) it was tweaked a bit the first time https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4675670#msg4675670.

I consider all the changes to reward formula as a way to keep control over huge portion of coins in one or very few hands. Also controlling the largest pool helps promoting any changes.

You do realize that there are about 80 million coins still to be mined, right?  It will take awhile, but eventually things will even out. Oh right, this situation reminds me of another coin that many early adopters have tons of - but is currently very hard to mine... Bitcoin.  Don't want to own any of those coins, right?

IMO, all of these posters complaining about the reward system are mine 'n  dump profiteers who are angry that they can't treat DarkCoin like the latest crapcoin of the week now that the price has increased.

Early adopters were mining with cpu's - new formula was implemented after gpu miner was published as the hashrates were multiplied.
The change you're talking about was the second, the first one here: https://github.com/evan82/darkcoin/commit/ab58f240aca5b43e22b990c4a872fce4174bcf80

Right now it's already 4th version.

The latest changes (https://github.com/evan82/darkcoin/commit/970f9d202aeb90c5d9168736a07c05ed0e2fc448) was made as to prevent a possible attack https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5348513#msg5348513. But it could be prevented by starting more p2pools, and I see the change as an attempt to limit reward to 25, so if the coin lose popularity nobody could get blocks with up to 153 coins.

Initial miners got more coin as in any coin. There were three formulas, initial one was changed very quickly, then there was the cpu mining formula and after a threshold of 75 of difficulty , the new GPU formula (which gives out more coin for a longer time) kicked in. Nothing sinister about it. Early adopters get more, it's always like that. With so many coins coming out these days , why shouldn't they.

LISTEN UP

The coinmine pool at https://www2.coinmine.pl/drk/index.php has 80% of the total hashrate

80% of total hashrate!

We absolutely need to spread out the power to other pools, look at the list on www.darkcoin.io or all the new pools people are posting and change your miners. To the official pool at least which the devs control.

I don't want to spread FUD and accusations but there has been a lot of weird stuff happening these days. Part of it can be explained by the C-CEX.com hacks which put a ton of DRK on the market to be dumped on poloniex. But maybe, just maybe, the biggest pool is authoring double spends and sending fake DRK to be dumped. I'm very sorry to even bring this up if it's false and I mean no offense but it's something to consider. Someone may be draining DRK for all it's worth. Or someone (competitor?) may be intentionally investing in bringing down DRK as well but at least we can power through that.

If the coinmine pool owner reads this, please respond in any way possible, no offense was meant.

One thing is for sure, DRK is under attack by someone who wants to A) Destroy it and bring the price down while they bring out their competitor B) Lower the price insanely and then buy it all up, which makes no sense since they already have tons of coins.

I messaged the owner of drk.coinmine.pl and asked him to disable registrations and add a banner to the pool asking users to redirect their hashing power elsewhere. Hopefully we can resolve this quickly.

I think at this point people need to stop listening to you, you clearly have no clue. Minimum block reward is not a fraction. It's 5 or 10 coins, don't remember which.

3.5 Mil. coins mined. And now mining 23 coins per 2.5 minutes, it's about 12000 coins per day, it's about 430 000 per year. Diff incrase, reward decrase, so next year coin supply will be <400000. So total coin supply in 1 year will be <4 Mil.
If capitalization can grown to 20M $ as protoshares then 1 coin can cost 5$.

12k x 365 days = 4.38 million coins

430.000 = 35 days mining.

As far as I know the halving was removed when the GPU diff was forked in and the minimum was set at 5 coins... maybe the dev can clear this up?

Yes, I made a mistake.
The corrected table:
YearBlocks a yearMax rewardCoins a yearTotal coins
02102402552560005256000
121024012.526280007884000

52102400.7812516425010347750
62102400.3906258212510429875

82102410.0976562520531.3476610491468.85
92102420.04882812510265.7226610501734.57

Since halving is every year, total amount of coins is limited by 2x of what produced in first year, so it's definitely not 84 millions.
