May I inquire what the peak of DRK was so far? Any interim predictions for the next few months?

Thank you very much, such a great coin. Innovative, ambitious, awesome dev  Cool
I think it hit .004 when C-CEX got hacked.
Was at around .0025 naturally before that incident which pumped it way up n dumped it down lol.

Any posts from me that were posted in Russian were NOT from me. A cykablyat obtained my forum login details when they were leaked, I was inactive from the forum at that time.
The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Serious question here. Why is AuroraCoin $70.00 USD per coin? It offers nothing new and 50% of it is pre-mined. Is it just me who is confused here?
Auroracoin overcomes the biggest "flaw" in bitcoin: widespread adoption, with only 0.015% of global population owning bitcoin.  Auroracoin's Airdrop will fix that problem (provided it is executed well).

Darkcoin overcomes the second biggest flaw in bitcoin: anonymity. Darkcoin is fixing that, which is why I'm also buying DRK.

Yeah this is accurate, natural value was around 2.5 millibits and was dragged way down by the hacks.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

One would expect DRK to rebound soon enough.

I think there is a fundamental oversight in the Auroracoin plan. Why wouldn't the Icelanders trade their free, nascent AUR for the more widely accepted BTC immediately after the Airdrop?

Will they be loyal to a crypto they didn't build or demand? I think they'll begin to dump for BTC, beginning panic selling across the board.

Ultimately that would mean it's a good thing for Icelanders (free BTC) and the Bitcoin adoption rates you mention. It would only be a bad thing for the bagholders who get in now and can't exit the market fast enough.

I think because bitcoin has suddenly gotten feet again and has risen 15% and drk can only be traded with btc, it has had an effect on the coin (when only looking at the btc value)

Well, but the other side of that argument is that those who sell the auroracoin are spreading it to even more users?

Anyone up for doing a Reddit Darkcoin pump after Darksend is implemented?

This post about Counterparty on reddit that got upvoted to the front page of r/bitcoin was very effective.  It caused the poloniex volume to go up 10x and the XCP price to go up 3x

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1xzghd/counterparty_xcp_decentralized_opensource_nextgen/

I'm thinking we could do a similar reddit post about darksend and upvote that to the front page of r/bitcoin.

Contrary to what everyone's saying in this thread, pump/dump is not bad for a coin.  It helps spread circulation of the coin and grow the community.

And you forget that for every seller there must be a buyer - who is going to want to buy a coin that you cannot do anything with. Iceland is sure as hell not going to accept it as a form of payment.. Not to mention the MAJORITY of Icelanders have no idea what a crypto wallet is, what aurora coin is, how to exchange the coin into BTC... Whats going to happen is the dev and other people who invested will be left holding the bag of coins that no-one collected and panic sell will commence...if that doesn't happen before the so called "Air-Drop"

and on that note can we PLEASE get back on track to DarkCoin related topics.....

This coin appears to be stupidly hard, my pool is at 36,000% on its current block with average pool luck at 3,400% or so.    I presume theres no chance of ever solving the block on time at 100%
Isnt such large variation a problem for the network long term

I was going to get back on topic but would like to point out that the dev will be verifiable destroying leftover AUR coins.  Back on topic: darkcoin is a great innovation on anonymity.  However, adoption is the key to the valuation of any coin, whether it is bitcoin, darkcoin or auroracoin.

1. I agree but there is a lot of spreading going on with the more than 100 alt coins people are currently speculating on. That doesn't mean they have any future.

2. I think I did address that people will be left holding the bag. A significant proportion of Icelanders will figure out how to trade AUR (if I can figure it out, they can!) and are likely to immediately trade for the more popular BTC. The rest will just ignore it and become unwitting bagholders, along with the speculators who paid good money for the same AUR.

But I agree, back to DRK now - an alt coin with something new to offer!

Trying to mine darkcoin on windows, getting a little frustrating...

I have 5830 (AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series) on windows 7 64-bit.  I downloaded sgminer from the darkcoin.io website.  Updated AMD Catalyst driver from 13.1 to 13.12 (but I also tried with 13.1 first before updating.  Here is my bat file:

Code:
set GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
set GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
.\sgminer --kernel darkcoin -o stratum+tcp://stratum1.example.com -u username -p password

(note I'm not really using stratum1.example.com) I'm getting the following error:

Code:
[08:36:44] Started sgminer 4.0.0

[08:37:32] Error -11: Building Program (clBuildProgram)
[08:37:32] Error compiling program for search.

Frontend phase failed compilation.
Error: Creating kernel search failed!

[08:37:32] Failed to init GPU thread 0, disabling device 0
[08:37:32] Restarting the GPU from the menu will not fix this.
[08:37:32] Try restarting sgminer.
Press enter to continue:
If I press enter and wait, the screen goes blank for a little and then:

Code:
[08:38:20] Probing for an alive pool
a couple more messages and then I get a windows dialog box that says:

sgminer.exe has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.

I've seen posts about upgrading to a beta 14.1 driver but I'd rather not do that if possible.  I've seen a couple people have had this issue any progress on this?

All is well so far, but you don't say if you downloaded the ADL_SDK?  Download that from AMD and put the contents (or replace same named file) in your sgminer folder and you *should* be good to go!

Aha a missing step now I'm more hopeful.  I downloaded the sdk and I have the following files/folder in ADL_SDK_6.0:

ADL_SDK.html

The pool is great, however people are most likely hesitant of any sort of lottery. They see it akin to snake oil - one is more likely to die in a plane crash than hit the jackpot.

Not to say that the pool in question isn't fair, but perhaps if it were explained in a more pragmatic manner I would consider joining.

Thanks.

Contrary to what everyone's saying in this thread, pump/dump is not bad for a coin.  It helps spread circulation of the coin and grow the community.

DRKcoin is already above a huge list of a hundred shitcoins that were pumped/dumped and which are slowly dying:

Some were totally uninventive clone coins
Some were clone coins with a small twist to make them different, but without adding anything major to the crypto ecosystem
Some were meme coins that inevitably become less "trendy"
Some were scams
Some were based on flawed economic reasoning (let's issue a few hundred billion coins, like forever, and see what happens)

...so what good did it do for these coins in the long run, that people got "acquainted" with them and then dumped them with a bitter taste?

Additionally how will the community benefit from people that have a 3-day to 2-week "investing" horizon and the constant praise or whine about the prices, depending if one pumps or dumps? These people are like bumblebees who go from flower to flower, expecting to get the nectar (profit from a later pump) and leave.

If you want to be as successful as Bitcoin is, you have to go with its low key approach where people found out about it and appreciated it for what it did and not because it was hyped (instead, it was attacked and said it'll never work for quite a while). Of course I'm not implying that the ROI horizon is like 5 years here, as cryptos are much more adopted right now and things move fast (top20 coinmarket attained in ~4 weeks without hype/spamming/sponsorships etc).

As I see it, the prospect of DRK is not to be a slightly successful coin for a 2 week pump and then die, but rather to become a genuine BTC alternative, if not a BTC killer for certain uses or certain individuals who value their privacy. It's, in a way, degrading for the coin to be treated like a pump&dump scam, creating negative perception.

Don't worry about people finding out... those who are looking at the altcoins are also looking at coinmarketcap. If they want to see why Darkcoin is where it is, and why it will be rising, they can come over here and see for themselves. And those who aren't looking, well, they'll hear what you have to say as something like spamming or, worse yet, ponzi scheme tactics.

It's a fundamental trait of human psychology to value more what you discover yourself, and be skeptical of promises that other make to you - as you are suspect of their motives. So why go against the flow of human psychology dynamics and not have them work in your favor? The only thing that is required for this to work is to have adequate internet presence when one looks you up in Google, ie a Wiki entry, a good coin page, an explanatory FAQ that explains the differences in <30 secs reading - stuff like that. The rest will follow.
