All you guys trading DRK on Mintpal exchange you might want to consider other alternatives for a bit until the people at Mintpal come forward with how / why / when they where compromised. They may be keeping quite to not reveal further weakness, nobody really knows for sure. I see the volume of DRK far passes any others on Mint. While nothing will likely happen, its just a heads up for now to be careful incase it is something more going on that we don't know.

Good work on your recent campaign to raise funds, I hope your code review goes well.

Very good advice. MintPal has shown their major flaw with this Vericoin fiasco...that being they could suffer major BTC losses due to shitty shit coins' vulnerabilities as well as their own technical, and in my opinion still untested, vulnerabilities.
We, being one of the select 3 Cryptos that Bitfinex has chosen to trade, should show Biyfinex more love and move DRK there. Help them mature their DRK market and start up margin and swap trading.
I personally moved half my DRK there after MintPal's vericoin crapfest.
JL

We, being Darkcoin holders, are among the privileged few alt coins traded on a legitimate exchange, Bitfinex, use the privilege people. Ditch MintPal.

I like Bitfinex... Good exchange, excellent support!  I've have traded DRK there, it just has a pretty thin order book... but that will improve as more people move

How do I know I can trust them more than mintpal?

I suppose you don't... However, after Vericoin, after I bot some DRK on Mintpal today, I moved them out ASAP, and I don't think Bitfinex has ever had a similiar problem
Show me a link to MintPal audits...it doesn't exist. Show me info on MintPal the company..."UK-based" is about it. Furthermore their own website security says they're able to prevent against SQL injections and yet the Vericoin breach was a...SQL injection.
Bitfinex has worked to become one of the top BTC exchanges while creating swaps, margin trading and shorting and they regularly perform audits. Legit and credible.

Trouble?! At MintPal?! Ohhhh noooo. If only we had been warned!
::cough cough::

So glad to see all this volume available on Bitfinex now.

To look at the on book order flow presently isn't entirely a great reflection of what will be in the future.
I agree with you. I understand how this works.

My point is this: If you are just barely breathing, and then try to hold your breath for 3 minutes... There comes a point of no return. Maybe if you had been breathing normally up to that point, you could have pulled it off. But you're already starved for oxygen, and now you try to hold your breath for 3 minutes...

The market is already barely alive. Cutting off supply isn't going to have the usual effect of driving up value, and we've witnessed this to be true. People are just staying out. Look at Doge. Why can it hold value in useless pump of extreme inflationary coin? The extreme inflationary nature means it has liquidity... People can buy it and then use it without fucking themselves out of position.

We should stop seeing what we want to see and look at what is actually happening. The evidence is right there... We're just not seeing it because we think we know how this shit works. Clearly, we don't know what we think we know or doge would be 0.00000001 - it's not. So, the rules we think we know clearly aren't applying.

We're decreasing liquidity at a time when there is already a death rattle as a result of not enough liquidity...

Maybe I'm overstating it. I'm not trying to claim that what I'm saying is the path we're on. It sure a shit looks like it... But it looks like PPC should have a market cap of 0. It doesn't... So, what things look like, according the the rules we think we know; it isn't working that way. Crypto changed the fundamental way we thought about money, but I think we have arrived at the wrong conclusions because what we thought we knew is not happening, at all, not even close.

Well 10 out of 10 for persistence Camo in trying to get your point across! I absolutely agree with you. It's a lovely notion that we might end up with 3000 MNs and far less coins in circulation as a result with DRK's price increasing substantially (and MN payments being higher; amongst other factors) but if liquidity isn't there, your examples of a potential user of DRK avoiding it because of the costs of getting hold of enough DRK to perform their transaction outweighing the benefits are a real issue. I know that BTC has gone through many phases in its progression from pure speculative play to being used to transact with, and it still has a long pathway to go before it's truly acting as a "currency", but it's essential we focus on DRK being usable for people to transact anonymously with and they can't do that for any reasonably large sums as it currently stands. If someone wanted to move US$100K anonymously using DRK, their buy (and subsequent sell which everyone would cry "dumper...!" at) would shift the price substantially. So it's currently just not usable for its intended function and we need to get it to be.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts Evan Duffield on this important facet of DRK's economic make-up.

Again, in time liquidity will increase. The volume isn't there and the adoption isn't there for anyone going to try to move $100k right now (DRK isn't even at that stage yet). Until we start seeing >1000 BTC volume days, we are at the mercy of an anemic altcoin market. I think it's poor for anyone to make long-term views on liquidity assumptions with how thin order books are presently, as if they will always remain that way. Certainly, if that's the case, no altcoin is going to survive. In theory, the BTC ETF should bring fresh capital into the crypto markets and we'd see spillage into the altcoins, DRK being one that should see benefit to this. At 3000 MN's and just using today's supply of around 4.8M coins, that leaves 1.8 million coins for trading, but it's naive to think of that as low available liquidity. There is actually 180,000,000,000,000 units available from all the duffs out there. Are you telling me this amount isn't sufficient for daily volume??

Not suggesting the current level of liquidity will always remain; just wanting to stimulate conversation on this, as per Camo's commentary. I believe DRK will eventually have great liquidity and be very useful, but maybe there are ideas (like illodin's) that could accelerate DRK's ability to be used for more than just the current speculative focus.

Quote

No, I'm not thinking that. I know that the divisibility down to 8 decimal places creates a lot of room for movement in value. The essence of what I'm interested in is the pathway DRK needs to travel to see dramatically improved liquidity, to the point where large amounts of fiat can be converted without it causing massive spikes in the price.

I think we'll have more liquidity, I'll try to breakdown the argument:

1.) Let's say we have 3000 masternodes and a 400M marketcap. Masternodes enjoy 50% of the total coins mined. Lets say there's 6 million coins, so that's $66.60 per coin on the exchanges.
2.) The total masternode network will make 1440 coins a day (576*5*.50 = 1440)
3.) How much of those coins do they sell? 30%? If that's true, each day there will be 0.3*1440*66.6 worth of coins for sale. So we can do $28771 worth of business a day with no premium.

TLDR; A higher market cap means more people can buy things without any premium to use DRK. Also, if there's 50k of business happening a day the price will just go up, allowing more business to be done.

Who is so stupid to invest 1000 DRK for a profit of 0.5 DRK per day?
The way you try to dump your 2M instamined coins is pathetic.

Yeah the key is darkcoin-exclusive services/shops.
I'd be doing this right now, but all current payment systems/services destroy the anon that DRK was made to provide.

i tried using bitfinex but it was way too complicated. i got btc in but could not get it to execute a trade. i sent my btc out of there to my old cryptsy account and luckily got some drk @.00500!
mintpal v1 was great while it lasted but it's done now, i won't be back. i looked at bitrex but was not impressed. i've got a bter account but rarely use it so it's craptsy for me until btc-e steps up. seems like drk and btc-e are the perfect fit.
had the same problem with.bitfinex Smiley
After all you need to move your coins from deposit/trade wallet into exchange wallet to have the possibility to buy/sell Smiley
thanks, yeah my btc was in the trade wallet so i guess that was the problem. i may give them another try but they are not very user friendly. they do appear to have some cool advanced features though.
btc-e seems to focus on privacy and non US compliance which is good but i guess could be bad if they ever decide to go gox.

I would prefer Kraken had they already enabled the leverage trading (they say it's functional but they are waiting for bigger volumes - however I wouldn't expect that volume to arrive without offering full functionality first...) and/or if Russia wouldn't threaten to actually ban Bitcoin.
Bitfinex is not bad but I could use things like "stop loss" and "take profit" options for margin trade positions as well (not just for the orders and not only one of these per order).

So CashCow Ltd decides to liquidate and coincidentally Mintpal taken offline instantaneously so people can't withdraw, again...due to some 'critical bug'.. and Twitter is full of users saying they still lost their coins from the upgrade 2 weeks ago (including me)?  How stupid can people be to believe this whole charade? I fucking give up.

I'm still here.

just dumped the balance @ 300 to get rid of this coin, soley based on you and that loquacious "twat" murmuring how busy he has been tp entertain the masses with his brilliance.

Should I dump a further 100,000 DRK HAL ?

Here is the most likely scenario as I see it:

  • 2 weeks ago, Moolah pulled down Mintpal with no effective warning (apart from 1 tweet on Moolah's twitter)
  • Shortly after, the largest wallet on cryptoid, being Mintpal at 430k DRK, went AWOL (https://chainz.cryptoid.info/drk/#!wallets)
  • The new Mintpal site is inexplicably defunct, even 2 weeks later many people's coins are missing (https://twitter.com/moolah_io/status/521471213063782400).
  • Our new friend (sciencerocket) shows up claiming to have a lot of DRK to sell and doesn't seem to care what price he sells at and is even warning people he is going to dump and offering proof of the dumps, and then complaining people are 'too cheap' to buy his dumped coins at firesale prices.

Conclusion:

I bet that _sciencerocket is Alex Green, Director/Owner of MooPay Ltd (his 'Cash Cow').  If this is true then he has stolen a large bulk of the Mintpal drk and is now trying to create demand to offload those DRK before the cat & mouse game is up on Mintpal when the users realise they are never getting their missing coins back...  he waited until DRK anonymity was working and the new Mintpal site was never supposed to work because it was just a pretext to execute this theft under the guise of an incompetent Mintpal site 'upgrade'.

Or else why would a dumper be so desperate to sell at any price unless these are stolen coins?

Just a theory...sciencerocket care to respond?

^ this.

EDIT: Incidentally, after I posted the above, sciencerocket disappeared and the twitter conversation I linked was somehow reduced from like 30 tweets from people saying their coins were gone to the 4 that are there now, not sure how maybe by muting the accounts: https://twitter.com/moolah_io/status/521471213063782400. I am saving all the HTML of the Moopay twitter conversations since then.

EDIT 2: See this thread for more info and to report how many coins went missing: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=824211.0
