2) Even with a load of people cpu mining it might just not be worth it. Some maths to be done I think!
That is true... what I would wish for is to have a raspberry pi that has somekind of X11 USB ASIC miner attached to it. Then we could make this work. Hopefully by 2015 the first X11 USB ASIC miners will appear on the market. In theory, there is no reason why I can't offer multiple algorithms. I've got a few Ghs of Scrypt mining going to waste that I'd be happy to point towards a "charity" pool What are people's thoughts on possible mining fees? the good news is that hardware/network costs are likely to be quite low. When running 6Ghs X11 bursts through Nomp we were only using 1-2% CPU on a T2.medium. It could probably be hosted on something much smaller (if a colab with the official pool doesn't happen).

Maybe contact the guys from xpool.caI indirectly "mine" DRK there by mining a few SHA256 coins. They sell the SHA256 coins every 2-3 days, and I get DRK in return. Maybe we can get them on board for your charity project. They get advertizing, you get your percentages.

If I ended up running the pool, I'd apply to the dev fund to reimburse me for actual costs incurred...

I've been offline for the past 18 hours and have only just caught up on this white paper and the additional 13 pages added to this thread! That's a superbly thought through and elegant solution Evan to this problem that has been a thorn in the side of decentralised crypto since the beginning. Congratulations to you and anyone from the DRK team that's assisted. The white paper is beautifully written. I feel very honoured to be able to come on here, take part in this community and express my thanks. You're probably one of the most dedicated and professional people that's ever been involved in crypto and, frankly, financial transaction/monetary systems. Your greater understanding of economics and human behavioural factors that determine the strengths and flaws of financial systems as well as your deep understanding of the technical architectural issues networks like this need to address is what's separating Darkcoin from virtually everything else. it's great to be witnessing this.

Can't it be both? For profit and charity? How does the saying go: Altruism doesn't exist, sustainability must be made profitable.

I would point a few CPUs to mine for wages. That is a really good idea. A paid team that would give a stake etc. Really good idea.
or better yet. Is it possible to mine Darkcoin with a raspberry pi? I know that you will probably only make a few duffs with it, but it would basically cost nothing to set up and run for eternity. Darkberry pi? The point is to utilise as many spare CPU cycles as we can find. No reason we can't use Pi! And if people want to direct their rigs to the pool for a few hours a month all the better. Or donate DRK indeed. I'll drop him a line. We'll have to decide whether we work together or I start a separate pool. Testing was successful on Tuesday. I'll go away and have a chat with Propulsion, Evan and a few others and if it fits into the bigger picture I'll announce something soon. I mean go ahead and use your rasp pi, but you're not even going to generate a single penny if you ran it for an entire year. So it really is not worth your hassle to keep it running. Stonehedge, it is possible to allow users to set a donation amount and any funds donated could be earmarked for a Foundation address. It would actually be very easy to implement it. I'm all for it.

Well that sucks.. "I have identified a few privacy-related issues in the code. For the time being, I recommend that users pause use of Darksend+ for privacy purposes, or bolster them with other blockchain privacy tactics as part of a privacy-in-depth strategy, until the issues can be fixed; these issues were reported to the Darkcoin dev team on 2014/09/18, and acknowledged by email by the dev team on the same day. All will be fully disclosed by 2014/10/18 as part of “responsible disclosure” practices. I expect that they will be addressed sooner than 2014/10/18; if corrected Release Candidate binaries are made available before then, I will disclose the issues at that point. For the time being, I’m reserving the following IDs for the issues so that their status can be tracked:" http://blog.anonymousbitcoinbook.com/2014/09/darkcoin-code-review-results/ I'll have everything he found fixed by Monday. 0.0065 This solution Evan has devised could be a game changer. The biggest thing holding back crypto from mainstream use as a currency is the relatively high transaction time vs traditional payment methods such as card transactions and paypal etc. If transaction time can be reduced to under 30 seconds then it becomes a viable option for payment of day-to-day transactions such as groceries, restaurants, fuel, impulse purchases. Very exciting! I used your pic today for #getintothedark. Very funny! #getintothedark@TaoOfSatoshi
