The sdc devs didn't want to do it. They want to go their own way - fair enough.
The darkcoin community was against issuing a superblock to increase the supply and payoff the sdc marketcap. Very very opposed. And I believe rightfully.

If we continue this momentum for a while your friend will prob join us of his own accord Smiley

Yeah I just read their statement... Fair enough, minting more DRK would have essentially been a crowd funding exercise and we would need close to universal agreement for that...

I don't know man, I can't shake the feeling we missed a Golden Opportunity today to stay one step ahead...

Did you see their discussion with XC guys? Check my post history, I quote some of it, they just tried to use Evan's knowledge and bait him before choosing XC in order to pump their stuff with XC guys.

Not people I'd like to see on the team.
You are telling me, that they tricked Evan And now the released in the public this "merge" statement  ?
There is no full information of what happened on their side. It looks like it was something like that, but I believe that part of the SDC team may not have been completely aware of everything. Anyway, when things turned ugly here, Evan called it off before their announcement, so it doesn't matter what they think or want, it is not gonna happen.
According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I'd still like a statement from Evan as to why he was interested in them.

Was it the fancy GUI?

Their anonymity process is really top notch?

I sure hope it's not because they have a chat where you can send gifs (yayyyyyy who fucking cares about that)

The way I look at it is we were trying to buy a couple of Devs for $500k. Quite an expensive way of doing it really, especially when you read stuff like this from the lead dev rynomster at SDC:

https://gist.githubusercontent.com/atcsecure/cf6a478ef3169cefdc6d/raw/d8fb08d69379806dbfd991004cd3d9373f9125f0/gistfile1.txt

Both the SDC and XC sides come across childish and unprofessional. We need devs with maturity and integrity to lead Darkcoin. A marriage with SDC would inevitably lead to disagreements, arguments, egotistical volatility and divorce. All of which would be messy and distract us from our core aims.

Unreliable, untrustworthy, you name it.

Yesterday morning someone bought 5000 DRK on Crypsty. Unheard of in the past weeks and days. An hour or two later the proposed merger was leaked. The two individual's names in that screen shot come up as unreliable people all over these forums in any matter related to crypto coins. Thank goodness this merger was nipped in the bud. You would have been bringing on aboard a veritable sieve into what is the tightest iron clad privacy issue currently being constructed today.

I don't know man, I can't shake the feeling we missed a Golden Opportunity today to stay one step ahead...

Yes indeed.

What worries me is that when XC, CLOAK, VERI and all that stuff came along, Evan didn't bat an eyelid.

Yet when SDC appears he suddenly wants to "merge" with them ?

Why would he even suggest just a drastic move only in this particular case ?

He must think they're onto something.

If ever there was an invitation to hedge your DRK investment you can't really beat an endorsement from its own developer. I've already acted accordingly.

Don't over read Smiley

The reason for this movement was not fear. The reason was a saturated market with hundreds of altcoins with developers not working together. I really believe that in the near future we won't have so many coins. Most will just vanish, but this was an attempt to try a different path. Something not tried before that could benefit everyone.

As for why SDC, obviously Evan thought part of the team was talented. The community seemed strong, with some values aligned with ours. Also, their size seemed right.

Fair enough.

I'm not at all adverse to such initiatives - they have to be explored, notwithstanding two critical points:

[1] - it's good that the community were allowed to express an opinion on the coin supply tampering. It's also great that their opinion was treated with such instant respect. On balance, they are probably right - tinkering with coin supplies is major sh*t and probably should be avoided at all costs. NxT were under pressure to do it and stepped back from the brink, preferring to allow a multi-million coin thief get away with their loot rather than compromise the integrity of the currency. VRC took the opposite route and turned themselves into a laughing stock.

[2] - Crypto has a lot of nice, hard working, visionary, principled and intelligent people working in it. It also has a lot of dog-eat-dog scumbag double crossing egomaniac filfth working in it. Unfortunately, the latter group don't wander around wearing "dog-eat-dog scumbag double crossing egomaniac filfth" badges, so they're not exactly easy to identify. Evan is in a vulnerable position when it comes to colaborative ventures. I'd say that unless he knew the guy from when he was 2 years old, went to school with him, fell out and back in with him 15 times and knew him to be of platinum degree integrity, he should regard all overtures as if they were wearing such badges.

Darkcoin - v0.10.15.21

If you are running a masternode on a VPS, I highly suggest you update to 15.21. This update reduces outbound traffic by 90%+ (which is what amazon charges for) by implementing bloom filters. Also load has been drastically reduced by about 70%.

PS. Enforcement is on, everything looks good  Smiley

Completely agree.

I'm pretty shocked that some other members of The Foundation let this get as far as it did. There's no room for naivety here.

Who exactly is Ryno? What's his name, address, real world track record, where are his references? Sticking some code on github under a pseudonym and making big promises about shit that hasn't happened yet doesn't remotely cut it when you're dealing with something this big.

Whoever leaked that document did DRK a big favour.

are they not producing open source software?
