Vitalik Buterin, creator of Ethereum, is one high profile cryptocurreny personality eschewing the fourth annual Consensus event this year.

Buterin slammed the high ticket prices ahead of the event, saying: "I refuse to personally contribute to that level of rent-seeking."

He also criticised organiser CoinDesk's reporting policies and use of off the record quotes, saying via Twitter: "[CoinDesk's] reporting policies are designed to trap you with gotchas. Did you know that if you send them a reply, and you explicitly say that some part is off the record, that's explicitly on the record unless you go through a request/approve dance first?"

I personally agree with Buterin. The ticket price seems to be very high to me. While every crypto enthusiast is trying to popularize cryptocurrency saying it is more convenient and cheaper to use than fiat - such price to the main crypto conference of the year makes people sad

This is totally unexpected and unacceptable situation. People are attending there to know more about the industry so that they can contribute in the market. But this kinda decision will demotivate them to present there in next time. Organizing committee should consider this efficiently. Cool Shocked

The fee is definitely steep, but maybe keeping the industry in mind, it works accordingly, for Such prices only work if there is a market for it, and people are willing to pay.

It is not very high, expensive. Because as you see many people went and had the money to pay which tells you they know what they are doing. It might seem to much from our side since we have little but for the big dogs it's nothing. The main goal to go there is to try and do networking with all kinds of people. Vitalik is mostly upset cuz they tweak his words and tweak ethereum dev/community words to create more eye catching articles and thus maybe even mislead some people.

For this event the CEO of Ethereum should think about the ticket price and this roved that they re less concern about their customer so they should make this in cheap price so that the investors can join in this event but it’s their bad idea because of this they can achieve some customers.

As far as i know ethereum avoid the Consensus 2018.The ticket price was too high for this conference but i think for this important conference, management can offer a low price ticket.

I like the reason why ethereum developer did not want to be there and it is a good reason.  If the price of the tickets are high many intelligent developers will be kick out of the conference and the political cryptocurrencies developers will be the people that will be available and you know politicians always discuss issues that affect their personal interest.

Buterin is right. I also felt that the price of ticket is high. If publicity was the motto of this consensus, then the price of ticket should have been little bit cheaper for the convenience of the investors.

Yeah, well, even when I can agree, Consensus is still an important event. Crypto-related companies usually use Consensus as a platform for launch some achievements / news because and a lot of people is present and it is also covered by the media as such. I have never attended it. Let's see if it gets substituted by another even more important event in the near future.

I hope Buterin was right because it seems that only few people are on his side right now but it doesn't matter anyway they were all going through the same spot again once the bandwagon moves. But we can't do anything about it and everyone don't know what future awaits to us, so lets just hope for the better in the crypto currency.

It is just to expensive for the average Joe and it is probably not worth for many people. It is a show for the rich with lambos on the door and plenty of hype.

These days I have read some criticisms of the price of tickets in the sense that such high prices give this type of event an elitist image. In a certain sense, it's possible that this is precisely the intention of the organizers, that this event is an exclusive event attended only by VIPs.
