Is it just me or is there something suspicious about all these new threads being created today?

Threads created by brand new members with zero post count, they join the forum and the first thing they do is create a thread?

All of them seem to be asking questions about something Bitcoin/Crypto related.

Could these be fake accounts / spam bots?

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Fecking bots everywhere!

Yeah, I don't know what their gain is, but there's been several threads today that are copy and pasted posing as a question, and therefore are easily missed unless you've gone through several pages.

are there really spam bots to control and create these kind of things? aren't the one posting is a human, probably a member of this forum. Creating tons and tons of alternate accounts and posting useless threads?

Just create a board for new members. You know it will have to be done sometime, so the sooner the better.

It's like Brexit. It was obvious from the very beginning that it would have to be a clean break with WTO rules, but the unicorns are trying to push as much money out of the country while they can.

Give us a couple of new member boards, and restrict newbies posting elsewhere. Lets rebuild Bitcoin Talk to take advantage of all the changes that are happening in the financial world. No thread starting until you have a post count of 5 would help as well.

Some of us 'newbies' have actually joined Bitcointalk to learn more. If we are restricted to 'newbie' boards, and we have questions to pose, how would we get the answers? It would be pointless having newbies answering newbies questions, and the more experienced users wouldn't be bothered by the 'newbies' boards.

Not sure why you think newbie sections are only for newbies. Plenty of higher ranked members answer, and participate in discussion there. Plus, it's a great place to look to reward merit, because of the constant questions, and answers.

Having said that new members used to be limited to the beginners and help section before meeting certain criteria. Unfortunately, it proved ineffective to spammers, and only hindered legitimate users.

I don't see it returning unless there's a major shakeup from last time.

Majority of those creating new threads are doing it for the sakes of acceptance and getting merits from higher ranked members in order to increase their own ranks.Unfortunately, with the way the system is now designed,it will literally take donkey years to become a member.

What the deal with this thread being created? There is nothing new about what you are stating here, nor you have been unaware of that I guess. So what's the point here?

I think they got pissed off for being banned at the end and now turned to spam the forum as a revenge.
They don't give up easy, you know.. when is money-related there's always one pissed off looking for revenge.

There was a thread some time ago where members were discussing the possibility of there being thousands, or more, bots running rampant around the forums. One can only guess at the purpose of these bots, probably just throwing out a net to see if they get any merit at this point. They believe they wider they cast their net, the more likely they are to bring in some resources, like merit or farming bounties.

I can't find the thread for some reason, but there was compelling evidence for a couple hundred accounts being connected that were all spamming at an alarming rate. The conclusion seemed to be that there is either a sweatshop of workers spamming away carelessly or bots have invaded our forum. The more economical and logical option, Ockham's razor, suggests it would be bots.

The best we can do is shut down the threads that are useless, watch for merit abuse and things of that nature. Mods have definitely stepped their game up lately, and merit has made the forum a better place in general. This type of behavior is in it's dying flails. I saw another forum advertising e-books that discuss coming to this forum and farming accounts to make money from bounties. I imagine someone took that to the extreme, or many people and this is what it looks like.

I hadn't noticed it, but I just woke up not too long ago.  OP, you should always give examples of what you're talking about when you start a thread like this.  I suspect this might be a bot based on what people have written here, but who knows.  Just report the posts if they're spammy and let the mods deal with it.  A whole thread about them probably isn't necessary.

All of them seem to be asking questions about something Bitcoin/Crypto related.
Let's ban everyone who is asking crypto related questions on bitcoin forum. Sure.

Just create a board for new members. You know it will have to be done sometime, so the sooner the better.
I know that something like this is already working on Russian local  section where newbies can't create threads anywhere excapt newbie section. But tbh I don't think it could be appliable to the whole forum because some services are creating their accounts and have to start their threads asap (but btw allowing thread creation to copper member newbies might help here).

We haven't had a good witch-hunt in quite some time. We may be overdue.

I don't think that this would work in any meaningful capacity. If we limited the newbies to a newbie board, then the bots would just continue to farm the way they do within the newbie board until one of their bots acquires the merit to break out of that board and into the rest of the forum. It wouldn't stop the bots, but it would simply change the way they operate; this isn't fruitful in my opinion. Any actions taken against them should be significant enough to remove the incentive for them to do what they are doing, else it will continue.

A whole thread about them probably isn't necessary.

Especially considering there is already threads such as this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3488933.0 , which do provide examples, evidence and meaningful discussion surrounding the topic.

But they would be easier to detect if their posting was concentrated in one board.

Maybe we should have a merit monitor who can award negative merits, Negative 50 should be a disincentive.

Yeah pretty possible. All those brand new accounts seemed know the forum perfectly. When I joined I didn't even know where to press to reply something Cheesy
I think it's people who have been banned recently or just people with multiple accounts. If before the account trading was easy, now it has to  be done a huge work of the  account pumping, just cause of merit and those multiply people don't wish to waist the time. Sorry, but I do not have another explain.
