The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Desaster in the making. 5000 BTC investing in under 24hours and 43 days to go. The 50000 BTC are likely to be broken in the timeframe and even 75k-100k seems possible. You guys know that devs then get 7500-15000 BTC in ethereum + the BTC itself. Also a yearly inflation that is enourmous at 50000 BTC raised....

So many people will get burned, it is really sad Sad

Well your math is off, but your point is still valid.

First of all, anyone who knows anything about fundraising knows that you can have well over 50% come in the first wave of fundraising. I'd say this IPO might get to 10k-12k BTC, but no way it is going to 50k or 100k.

However, there is going to be a glut of Ethereum on the market. It has the potential to be coin with a $10 million dollar cap day one with a 26% inflation. Wow. Then you have a community that has already all invested. Who are the buyers at launch?  This will set a precedent for IPOs in the future. It does have the potential of being an investment bloodbath.

It's no math but my own assumptions and my expectations. I am pretty sure we will pass 25-30k BTC mark and am even willing to bet on it for a smallish sum.

I will bet any amount your choose on that it doesn't exceed 25k. You name the amount and escrow and I am down.

Haha, now I should bet >25000 BTC and just invest on my own too Wink

I will try to find someone, I only want to bet 0.2 BTC or something like that, as I don't really care much about it! Will contact you if I succeed at finding someone!

i am also willing to take the other side of this bet with you (or anyone) for any amount up to 10btc

I suppose this is a pretty heated topic so we added a contract about this to our site:

___________Total Ether sold will exceed 25,000 BTC
Options: Yes | No

I think some people (developers, community members, etc) will buy ether not as an investment but because they want to see the technology succeed.

We have been discussing for a long time the numerous potential applications for blockchain technology. Ethereum will make this easier to realize (turing complete)

Frankly my biggest concern is about the security problems of the biggest strength of ethereum. Bitcoin chose not to become turing complete because of these concerns.

I hope ethereum succeeds, but the risks are many

Anyone remember ripple?

Ethereum is all based on assumptions  . Young dev , some team members leaving the project. Delays..

Investing in the ipo is equivalent to blindly throwing money into something which has not proved anything so far. Any btc thrown at it is equivalent to gambling.

DeV did not mention total number of Ethereum , tokens from what i have seen it looks unlimited. Which means its value in the future will inflate and go down.

Some of the people behind Ethereum are using that smart kid Vitality to reassure investors its  a safe bet.

In all honesty all IPO's are bad for crypto.

Ripple is number 3 there in market cap. Most likely cause there are trillions of them (I kid). It is barely #5 above Darkcoin as far as volume goes.
http://coinmarketcap.com/
There is no doubt that the banks value it, as it is a debt based (IOU) system.
But the community has pretty much ignored it. These other popular coin market cap sites don't even list it.
http://cryptmarketcap.com/
http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/v2/coins/info
Ripple seems to be something by "the establishment". There is just something about it that keeps us Crypto guys at arms length.
Not saying it will flop, just reaffirming my previous statement, there is a reason most keep it at a distance.

Bought a small amount. Don't consider that as an investment, more as a support to the project.

But what if I want to buy some more? Is it possible to get them on the same ETHER wallet? Or will I have to generate another wallet?

What is going on with Ethereum? Could not follow the thread for a week...

Just the crowd sale being open and a spirited debate on the impact that an as of yet undetermined coin supply will have on short term profitability.

There's more but that is the gist of it...

What I don't understand about Ethereum is this: How are you going to create a whole entire new internet on a blockchain and not have it lag?
Look at how slow bitcoin is now, after only a few years of existence, and its only processing bitcoin transactions.
How can you build a sustainable decentralized internet on a blockchain and not have it bloat up, slow down and freeze?

Besides that major question, I am also concerned about how I, personally, am going to be able to use Ethereum on my old 2 ghz dual core (not quad core) laptop when windows 7 often freezes, and if I try to run any type of virtual machine, forget it. So how will the Ethereum client run on my laptop (since its a virtual machine, isnt it?) and not freeze up my laptop?

Another thing I'm curious about is this: if the value of ether reaches a higher value after genesis block (and btw, what's with all the bible references? "genesis block", "exodus address", "serpent" programming language???) than it was sold in the pre-sale, and then massive amounts of ether are sold for bitcoin, how is that going to work? You would have to have buyers equal and greater to the number of buyers in the presale in order for all that ether to be unloaded and picked up in buy orders. But since everyone who supports and knows about Ethereum will buy in the presale, then there will be no demand left after the presale and no buyers. So the value would logically have to drop to a lower value after Ethereum goes live, right? A ton of supply and barely any demand.
