You can read a bit of desperation between the lines but that is understandable because the author is not independent. Also, his line of thought has many assumptions, one being rationality which we all know is not a given attribute in the world we live in. It is not wrong though to have hope and one never know - perhaps the attacker will return the funds if all of the authors assumptions are true. It would be interesting to see how everything plays out. One point in the article that is true is that the damage has been done - how much remains to be seen. IMO DAO is RIP and eth has its own future in its own hands and must choose wisely. |

Mrpumperus just fell asleep on the trading desk. Volume will be up when he's back at work. lol, i did almost fall asleep I have been putting my coins into cold storage. I wont be trading much this week, as i expect alot of craziness incoming. The fork and after reading yesterdays post from Stephan, it made me think alot. Also if the fork happens, (which im all for) i would expect at least 10% of ETH being dumped from DAO and we could flash crash down ( how much i think, i cant say ,lol ) I have placed orders lower and will wait to see if they get filled before deciding my next move. Once this all blows over ETH will be back over $20 in no time. BTC died many times to become stronger...ETH might have to do the same. |

If they do go ahead with the bailout, they are going to get the worst of both worlds: the uncaring brutality of a blockchain with the petty arbitrariness of a system controlled by people instead of math
I agree that the marketing they are using now looks wrong. Someone tried to adjust it on their open source web page repository but they won't allow that marketing to be changed, they rejected the pull requests updating it
If people value bailouts, they will certainly not value bailouts made arbitrarily, with the appearance of collusion and support of the Ethereum developers, who were also invested in the DAO and went against the espoused principles you mentioned to make an exception in this case.
Many people are used to bankers and governments having a tight relationship that is used to enrich themselves, so maybe they want to replicate that experience in a crypto-currency. Personally I think that corruption itself will lead to eventual failure.
 Sorry Nick, but ETH and (by voluntary association) DAO are now the too-much/too-soon Webvan of smart contracts.
