I have found that in recent time btc phone scam has been increased a lot. Scams call people and pursue people to pay taxes and bills by btc or any altercoins. Even some asks to invest in fake coin also. Mainly the scam group target people over phone.

Has it been happened with anyone??

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

I have never experienced and have never heard of it, IMO, users can easily avoid phone scams because most people will be careful if they receive a call from an unknown number

well I remember when all these ICOs were gathering cryptocurrency users information in the name of KYC I said that they are just accumulating information to sell and use for these kind of scam and also advertisement. now you can see what I mean! the most obvious one is the Email spam, social media spam and now this is the newest method with calling spam/scam.

if you are already in a database like that somewhere be sure that you are also a target.

With the rising price of bitcoin and other encrypted currencies, more and more swindlers join the community. We should be highly vigilant, not only by phone fraud, but also by mail fraud, and a suspicious link may steal all your coins.

This is gutting. I believe people who would fall for the tax scams are those living in countries where tax payment via btc is allowed. Where I stay, btc is not a legal tender so it is almost impossible for anyone to get scammed using the tax ploy.

No never heard of it but it wouldnt surprise me because scammers are very
resourceful and can be very believeable.

As pursurer posted if you give out your details be sure they are stored to be
Used for "marketing" later on.

One of the first things i learned on this forum was not to trust anyone especially
if i didnt know of their track record. If I got a call from anyone promoting
Bitcoin or crypto I would play ignorant and pretend I dont know what they were
talking about. Anyway there are only my immediate family and 1 friend who
know I have Bitcoin and crypto.

Many people are still filling their personal details on scam airdrop forms. Also those who participated in several icos last year while giving out their data to these suspicious websites. This is the effect of those actions. Their details have gotten to the hands of criminals who are up and about scamming them now.

Yes, many of my friends have experienced this kind of fraud. I've warned that such apps are just scams, but they do not trust them.

I have found that in recent time btc phone scam has been increased a lot. Scams call people and pursue people to pay taxes and bills by btc or any altercoins.

And how does this work?
I imagine the conversation between the scammer and a grandma:

-One, upper-case ef, one, uppercase ei, lowercase ei, zed, five, eks, one, uppercase haitch
-Eight???
-No not eight, aitch
-You said haitch..
-No, the letter "aicth" !!! Uppercase you
-What?
-You!!
-Me? What about me?
-No, not You!
-Then who ?, I'm alone!!!
-Lady, after aitch
-No, after six, the nurse comes after six, till then I'm alone...........

And btw, the address in the example is real...1F1tAaz5x1HUXrCNLbtMDqcw6o5GNn4xqX, it's the FBI seized coins adress

I thanks it won't happening to me, and I hope it won't happening to others.
I have no idea what is that phone scams because this is my first heard. But this is one thing for sure, if your phone is broken don't fix it. Because once you've configured it and connected to their computer, it is sure to copy all your data.

I have not experienced it, because in my country bitcoin is still banned.

I think the incident only happens in some countries that have legalized crypto as a transaction tool, and in countries that have very high bitcoin growth.

Nobody can cheat us unless we are ready for that.  Our greed to get money without efforts makes of prey of killers.  If someone offers something free just beware of him just think why one will pay something to you just for free.
If someone asks some personal data over telephone; never disclose him anything.  I have seen cheaters; calling the customers of Banks telling them that your ATM card will get blocked and you will not be able to use it anymore.  The customer if discloses the numbers written on the card and password then definitely his account balance is looted in minutes; even without password they do online shopping and pay bill using the card of the prey.
So never disclose on phone; just ask them to send mail from company's registered mail if they have some issue.

Sounds ludicrous to me.

I really can't imagine some Indian scammer reading 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa out loud to some innocent granny and her successfully noting it and sending it from her encrypted cold storage.

This is so rare. Most of the people won't just send you money specially if you don't have a legitimate company that they can call to. I wonder what kind of people will fall for this scam. I've never heard a news about this kind of scheme. Hope those scammers will be caught and be locked up forever for they are taking advantage of the weaknesses of other people and destroying the name of crypto as well.

well I remember when all these ICOs were gathering cryptocurrency users information in the name of KYC I said that they are just accumulating information to sell and use for these kind of scam and also advertisement. now you can see what I mean! the most obvious one is the Email spam, social media spam and now this is the newest method with calling spam/scam.

I agree with you on this. That is why I'd rather not join any bounty campaign that needs KYC. Aside from the fact that it invades my privacy, I can't let them use my information to illegal activities or to spam me with stuffs through email or even sell my info to some company that are outsourcing their product and services.

Never happened to me but I believe you. People are trying really hard to scam people into giving them free cryptos. I don't know if you ever noticed the Eth giveaway scam on Twitter. What is so alarming is that people actually fall for these scams. Please be careful out there guys/girls. There's a lot of money to be made in this space but there's also a lot of money to be lost. Stay safe! Hope my comment helped! Please give me some + merit if you found my comment useful Wink

It's probably starting with a phone call, but then they convince victims to continue communication via email and then give them instructions how to buy cryptocurrencies on exchange and send them to scammers. But I don't think that this scam can become widespread, because scammers prey on naive and technologically inexperienced people, usually the elderly, and using cryptocurencies would probably be very hard for them, so scammers would have to put a lot of time and effort. It also makes their story less sound when they tell people to purchase some "bitcoin" rather than just pay them directly form bank account. So, overall they are reducing their chance to succeed in order to gain some degree of protection against prosecution if they will manage to hide their transactions.

Then we should avoid ourselves from being scammed by them by not accepting any offer they make. Do not just fall to their sweet words with instant ROIs that they promise, stay focused and be safe.

No, it hasn't happened to me yet but I heard a lot of such stories. This is a very scary situation. Everyone should be careful enough and never fell into such trap. Don't give a single penny until you are sure that it is not a scam. Ask for proof and then proceed.

Never heard of it, but it looks strange to me. People are normally very suspicious about crypto, so I wonder how they target their victims. If they call someone that doesn't know what crypto is they wont really be able to do anything. If they target someone that knows what crypto is but hasn't invested yet, it's probably because it's a septic, so I don't know how they will scam them.
People that are usually cheated in crypto, are the ones that are actively searching for "get rich quick" schemes, so they are victims of their own search. I really don't know how someone can get scammed in crypto over the phone.

Actually such type of news is new to me as I have never heard of this, IMO, clients can undoubtedly keep away from telephone tricks in light of the fact that the vast majority will be watchful on the off chance that they get a call from an obscure number. I think there is something wrong in your understanding or others.

A most likely scenario I could think of is scammers phoning random people to do a small survey. In this survey they might include a question that relates to Crypto currency investments. <Example : Have you invested in Bitcoin before?> If the answer is "YES" then this person will become a target for these scammers.

I get regular phone calls from so-called Telemarketers and a lot of them will try to get as much information as possible from you, to sell whatever they want to sell to you. <Because they are trained to cover all answers that you give>

The scammer could just mask his fishing tactics as a normal telemarketer call.  Roll Eyes

It is like these Microsoft support calls, where they call you to tell you that your computer is infected with a nasty virus. When you respond and tell them that you are running some Anti-virus, then they already know that you own a computer and if they break into your house, then they know what to look for.  Roll Eyes

This is happening to regular bank users from long time now, they call and ask you your debit card details and just purchase things from online shopping websites. I feel the KYC procedures are not even required for ICO's, if they ask for non US people to comply with their status then its ok to continue.

This is what will make haters of bitcoin to intensify their campaign against Bitcoin. The other day I read that in South Africa kidnappers are asking the family of their victims to pay them in bitcoin. What a calamity? Bitcoin was not meant to be used for evil. Thanks for informing us about the phone scam. Every one should be careful.

I have found that in recent time btc phone scam has been increased a lot. Scams call people and pursue people to pay taxes and bills by btc or any altercoins. Even some asks to invest in fake coin also. Mainly the scam group target people over phone.

Has it been happened with anyone??

Well, I just heard about this from your discussion.
I think you should be more selective and not directly believe it. there are many ways scammers do their tactics for cyber crime. and this needs to be beware for all of us.

I think it's not happen to scam in phone unless I'm harmless..because bitcoin is decentralized digital currency so it's means no body can scam. But I'll  be knowledgeable at what I invested.

I recently heard someone scam over the phone to do Btc business, and it looked at him in this thread Grin. if I have personally experienced through social chatter, someone who invites me to invest in BTC and I already know their intentions and goals invite me to cheat me in this way, I think this form of fraud is very long used.

To my way of thinking, I heard recently about that, the scammers will encourage you to invest with them and they will bring you to their flowery words that once you invest it this will be the amount back to you and so on. That's why sometimes its really hard to trust someone in bitcoin because you did not know if they are really trust worthy orthey are only a scammers who will only used you and your money. so be careful to put your money in investment especially if you did not know that person or that project so better to research it first before  enter in that kind of business.

Generally, when transacting to somebody, you got to be skeptic due to the fact  that anything now can happen online, digital. So if one must pay, he should ask himsel, if he has ask for this mode of payment to the official biller, if not, why entertain such?

Hmmm, never seen this kind of scam before in crypto so maybe scammers are really one step ahead and their brilliant minds at it again. Lol. Well there's some famous scam out here wherein, you will received a text message saying that you won this big amount. But before you can claim the price you need to send some funds. So maybe they just put a twist on it, so this time they are asking for bitcoin or any other crypto in return.

So at least we have a headway and thanks for sharing this odd scam so I guess we need to be very careful and attentive and not fall for this kind of trap.

I have never experienced this kind of act. Though some people lure their family and friends to invest in scam coins that later run away with their money, but this has stopped after the closure of bitconnect and its likes, people are now wiser and careful of investing in an unreal project. But I haven't experienced Btc phone scam and not happening in this region.

I never heard these kind of schemes but this way of scamming is too obvious. People who fall for this traps are just plain foolish. Well, if you have received phone calls from an anonymous person, the first impression will always be doubt. At this moment, you will begin to identify whether he is telling the truth or not. If you haven't joined something like a campaign of you havent invested on something, then there is no reason for someone who will call you like that.

A lot of people scam with bitcoin even those who knows nothing about cryptocurrency prove to be bitcoin holders just to scam innocent people which I believe it's affecting the legality of bitcoin in most countries. My question is, is there no way to reduce or stop the crimes be committed in the name of using bitcoin as scam?

it's like someone doing a fraud by using an event like a lottery. then, telling with SMS that you are winner.

I've never experienced it, but the BTC fraud on the grounds of paying bitcoin taxes is the stupid act and unreasonable.

well I remember when all these ICOs were gathering cryptocurrency users information in the name of KYC I said that they are just accumulating information to sell and use for these kind of scam and also advertisement. now you can see what I mean! the most obvious one is the Email spam, social media spam and now this is the newest method with calling spam/scam.

if you are already in a database like that somewhere be sure that you are also a target.
This is strange. I supported the idea of ICOs using KYC sue to the increasing number of scam ICOs that were evolving. It is rather unfortunate that some ICOs take details of participants and leave them loosely for scammers to feed on genuine, unsuspecting investors. I hope people would be more careful in choosing ICOs. And I hope people get to realize that BTC transactions son't need the consent of any third party.

it is not verry alarming knowing that scammers these days are using bitcoin to scam people. They use bitcoin because bitcoin right now is a verry popular crypto that has been used by many people around the globe.

It is also not new to see bitcoin scams but scammers Nowadays are verry high tech and they are now taking their illegal activites to to the next level.

Thankfully i have not yet experiened something like this. the only thing that we can do for now is to be more cautious on what we do because scammers are everywhere.

The fraudsters mode will encourage you to invest with them and they will take you to the words of their flower which once you invest it will be the number of returns to you and so on. That is why it is sometimes very difficult to trust someone in bitcoin because you do not know if they really believe it is worth just a scammers who will only use you and your money.

Yes a lot of scam has being happening not only on phones but also on social media and many other google sites using BTC as a means of extorting money from people will depreciate so many people's interest to cryptocurrency, furthermore so many of us here speak too bad of BTC which is also not encouraging and make those whom have fall into the wrong hands feel it's true that BTC is a scam.

In my experience, I have not yet experienced phone scams basically because I am one of those who anonymously use bitcoin and noone knows that I invest in it and use it except from my closest friends. Also, I do not entertain bitcoin transactions thru phone because it is not safe and you do nit know for sure who is on the other line. But I believe that scams do happen because some people gives so much trust in this world full of opportunistic people. Bottomlin, do not transact thru phone and research first before investing especially in cryptocurrency market.

This is probably because of KYC requirements of scam ICOs out there. Maybe selling personal data to others. People will always have a way to scam other people for meoney. Let's just always be careful with all our transactions.

I have never heard about this kind of scam. But how should a scam like this work, when it's all most impossible to say a bitcon adress.
But if people have giving away personal information on a crypto site, those information can be use to scam later on.

so far no one has experienced such phone fraud events as you experienced such as btc tax scams and others, do not trust anyone who called you about btc and asked for some money or taxes, because the government has not legalized the bitcoin so there is no valid tax for bitcoin

With the rising price of bitcoin and other encrypted currencies, more and more swindlers join the community. We should be highly vigilant, not only by phone fraud, but also by mail fraud, and a suspicious link may steal all your coins.
I agree, i haven't heard of phone scamming instances but i have heard of online scamming. overall change passwords, do not share them and keep all information to yourself.

I never been heard of scam that force to pay taxes using cryptocurrency because it is too obvious and you can only pay tax on the government premises and they have their own cashier and payment procedure. Fake ICO is possible as a scam scheme.

I have found that in recent time btc phone scam has been increased a lot. Scams call people and pursue people to pay taxes and bills by btc or any altercoins. Even some asks to invest in fake coin also. Mainly the scam group target people over phone.

Has it been happened with anyone??

how do they cheat? and does it align the sense of a BTC body?
I just heard this news now, thank you for reminding me that no one will be deceived by this mode.

Last month, outgoing Israel Securities Authority Chairman Shmuel Hauser warned that cryptocurrency is poised to become the next binary options industry; in other words, the next multibillion-dollar Israeli scam. This means that it is happening where btc have a phone scam.

I have never encountered with any such scam attempt but there is always a possibility of new scams taking place. However, I believe that we should build mass awareness at least on a basic level to help people to keep themselves safe from such scams. As of now, ETH/Altcoins giveaway scams are booming across the social media and no surprise if we see such phone scams taking place soon on a bigger level.

I hope this is not true because this is definitely problematic. It could create a huge blow for bitcoin if this is proven real. On the other hand just in case that if it's really real then we must do something to stop it. We can't afford this kind of limitationin this system. We all want bitcoin to be clean and keep its integrity.

This is literally a bad news and can create a bad shot for bitcoin. We don't want this to keep the integrity of the system and as much as possible get rid of it. We need to keep on taking care of bitcoin and our safety is in our hands. Bitcoin is a great system and should be kept clean always. Let's all stop this kind of activity to avoid inconvenience.

This is a rare occurrence because it has long been a thief and should not be victimized by it, especially since we do not know our people talking with the phone. We must be smart and not be victims of these.

Never heard about such thing before, none of my friends had such problem. Maybe you have just provided the phone number on some scam website and they just thrown all their base to some thieves?

Never heard of any such scam. How would they even get your phone number? You probably went to a site which is scammy or quite fishy. You probably entered your personal data somewhere and they ended up selling your information for making some quick bucks. Make sure you never enter your sensitive on random untrustworthy sites!

yes, there are many types of scammers in this industry including as you discussed. vigilance should be prioritized especially if someone is calling you who is reviewing crypto and bitcoin. it mostly makes no sense
Essentially you should never try to follow what they say, and if you want to invest better you buy it in exchange.

It didn't happen to me because I live in a country where the demand on cryptocurrencies is too low and scammers won't waste their time to scam us Smiley
You have to be cautious when receiving information from people you don't know specially when they are asking you to send them money.
Scammers always find new ways to steal your money (they are clever).

There are many forms of Bitcoin fraud on the internet. I do not think now; criminals are using phishing methods over the phone. Thank you for sharing this news. I would be more careful if someone called me and talked about Bitcoin

Only stupid people get Bitcoin phishing over the phone. Previously there were a lot of phone numbers to call, and they said that they invested in their projects. If I send Bitcoin to them and the next day they will send me the 50% profit

I myself have never experienced it, but if the potential victims already know a lot about bitcoin should not be easily fooled, because let the bitcoin mode telfon fraud is rife, but should be now intelligent people and know the true characteristics of fraud, but we must also remain vigilant ,

Few of my friends work in illegal call centres where they ask people to pay taxes through PayPal via gift cards worth $500 or more, they used to speak a repetitive speech pretending to be an officer calling from IRS. This made many of those scammers millions in USD, and many got arrested as well for conducting such an illegal business. Think once, if from that way, they used to make millions, why wouldn't they try to scam people by asking them for taxes and making them pay Bitcoins which is pseudonymous and not so easy to track? It's easy for these scammers to make fool of sincere people and loot a lot of their hard-earned money from their pockets.
