How do I host a mining pool

Hey everyone,

So I am fairly new to the bitcoin community and would like to give a shot at hosting a mining pool.  Mainly just for fun and to learn more about servers, mining, etc.  Are there any idiotproof guides out there?  What's a good place to start?
