Instead of a new thread I piggypack onto OP. I deleted a wallet.dat and on top resinstalled windows 8. After fresh install I think much if not all data has been overwritten, its a 120gb ssd. I tried this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25091.0 without getting any keys.

Ive come to terms with the fact that the coins are lost but its still a meaningfull amount to me ( 11.6 BTC ) and if theres even a remote chance ito recover anything ill try it.

Id like to do this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=22697.0 . But the only way to do it for me would be through windows. I can either connect it via sata ( not as boot drive ) or sata to usb but im afraid that data still is going to be lost by doing so ( TRIM ? ).

Im really not versed in Linux. If anyone with a repuation would offer a service to have a look if anything could be done ill take it. Ive also been contacting some data recovery companys but I dont know if they would even know how to recover wallet.dat .

I don't know if it would work after a re-install, but you should try some of the free or low price data recovery programs out there. I used some years ago, no more than $50 for the best of them, and successfully recovered stuff. You could try these:

Good luck! Post here whether it works or not, which may help others who have the same problem.

There is a linux distro called Sabayon Forensics. It has some "undelete" utilities. Download it ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER, then try it. It's a live DVD.

Should see if you can find the wallet. This is the reason why you keep multiple backups! (I do!)

I keep one copy on a standalone pc not connected to anything else, and 1 copy on a flashdrive.

Contact professional data recovery companies and they'll figure it out for you. Lost bitcoin wallets are making the mainstream news these days so no doubt these data recovery companies must have heard about them ages ago.

Depending on how much money was lost, you might want to consult a professional service to recover your files - physical data recovery goes far beyond what a software program can do.

Nevertheless I wish you the absolute best of luck, I hope you get your coins back.

You should be able to get them back if you have filled your HD with loads of software since reinstalling the OS. The file is still there, Windows doesn't actually delete stuff. Its just a question of finding it ...

Not sure whether you need a "professional" to do it, or there are software packages that will do the job for. Try the latter first.
