UPDATE on HARDFORK

Looks like the hardfork was successful.

We now have an installer (500mb), for new players who can get up and running in a few minutes rather than days as it did previously.
For this we have mostly Domob to thank for his time spent on reimplimenting the original huntercoin code onto the latest bitcoin codebase (and of course the bitcoin devs..)
Huntecoin - Core is now completely up to date. Previous to huntercore, the original huntercoin was using a 4+ year old codebase.
Some miners are now also using huntercore for mining.

The old codebase will eventually be phased out - possibly at the next Hard Fork.. i.e. for the next fork you may need to upgrade to Huntercoin-core (huntercore).

Wiggi's gamestate changes have performed very well.
Players can now play for very short bursts if they wish, instead of having to play for hours at a time.
I've noticed an increase in players and this looks to have been very successful.

Wiggi and Domob will receive 10k HUCs each for their work. This should equate to around 30 million USD in a few weeks.

now that we have the foundations in place - Easy accessibility + Quick Play-Times we can work on the fun stuff.. turning Huntercoin into a more challenging and more fun game/crypto.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Is there an up to date document containing all the rules/instructions available?

The v1.4 Windows release has "GameRules.txt".

https://github.com/wiggi/huntercoin/blob/betterQt-timesave6/GameLogicChanges.txt
is now the same text (with Basic Game Rules, Life-Steal Fork, and Timesave fork rules)

If someone wants to write up the current rule set/guide that we can put in the OP, website etc, i think we can offer a 2.5k huc bounty.

definitely something that is needed.

I'm very happy to announce that Ledger just published its first volume, including a paper I wrote about a potential scaling solution for Huntercoin and HUC-like game worlds in the future:

http://www.ledgerjournal.org/ojs/index.php/ledger/article/view/15

It is very academic at the moment, but might still be interesting.  The paper also includes some introduction about how Huntercoin works on a high level, and some statistics about its early blockchain growth.

That's truly amazing. Some may look at Huntercoin as silly, but it's revolutionary enough to advance science in a peer-reviewed journal. Or the science of blockchain gaming, at least. We shall spread the word

I might give it a shot over the holidays, no promises tho.

Also, nice work domob! I will definitely try to give your paper a read over the holidays.

Despite my decision about huntercoin, i really appreciate your work on the bitcoin porting and your in-depth knowledge of cryptocurrency internals, I'll give it a shot soon, I hope I'll find the time to dive deeper into cryptocurrency too.

I finally got around to reading Domob's paper, and I realized it might be applicable to a Huntercoin idea I've been thinking about... ways to implement fog of war and hide people's planned moves.

Couldn't map sharding be used for that? If Hunters in close proximity interact on a private sidechain, then can anybody else see what's going on? If not, you could only see what's happening immediately around you on the map, which will be more realistic for a game world.

You would still be able to see the planned moves of people in your vicinity, but maybe there's a solution for that, too... would be cool to explore if you plan on writing another paper.

EDIT: Maybe you could have a designated gamestate calculator--somebody with no Hunter in the area that is neutral, akin to a miner--who receives a key to decrypt that part of the transactions in the private subchain.

1) im running the new client. A pop-up window says something like: "Your wallet may be out of date... it is synchronizing with the Bitcoin network... "

The word "Bitcoin" is there in a couple places.

edit: also, in the Overview tab, the caution symbol tool tip when not sync'd contains the word "Namecoin".

2) Domob - Congrats on getting the paper out! From a fellow academic (neuroscience), great job with the reviewer responses.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. It's a relic of Huntercore being forked from Namecore which is forked from Bitcoin Core. Domob probably did both the Namecoin and Huntercoin updates, maybe at once. I'm sure it'll get fixed soon.

By the way, good news everyone: I put Huntercoin on NewsBTC, again, this time covering its latest achievements. Do share, show them we're serious: http://www.newsbtc.com/2016/12/23/blockchain-gaming-huntercoin-update/

How about a update on huntercore with an actually working balance cant stand when i don't know how much i lost/who killed me/etc.

FYI tried with full and prune node still getting 0.0000000 and n/a next to every transaction. Getting old real quick.

You can see your total balance, but you can't see the details of the transactions and the math leading up to it, yeah. I keep track of if somebody killed me by remembering my balance and adding 100X my number of Hunters... the discrepency/100 is my number of missing Hunters.  Tongue

I'm sure Domob will get around to fixing it, soon.

I bought recently a linux VM because i want to test out .Net Core, and i want to implement a simple web app that talks to a huntercore instance and just spit out some simple stats, i could opensource it once ready, with a simple wrapper RPC library to interact with huntercore

I already had a tool running the same way that were generating, each block, a line like this

{"Date":"2016-12-24T00:01:49.6159656+01:00","Height":1401531,"TotalHuntersValue":800.0,"TotalLoot":37.65,"EstimatedBalance":10608.4043}

so basically every new block, it writes down:
- the time of the generated block,
- the current block height
- the total hunters value in the wallet (that takes into account currently live hunters and pending one)
- the total loot (and it deduct the 10% fee already so it consider the net loot amount)
- the estimated total balance (current balance + immature balance + huntervalue + loot)

Sorry, actually my client is discontinued because i left huntercoin support, I didn't had time to update website (and forget about my signature, i didn't posted on the forum since I left until yesterday)

Anyway the promo was about the fee to use the client, not the game itself, there is no way a player can play without having HUCs, because to generate a hunter you have to "spend" 100+1 huc" and moves costs 0.01 and destruct 1, etc... so the dynamic of the game requires you to have a wallet with hucs and risk your own capital, no matter what client you use

If you want to play "safe", you can just read about new rules (if someone posted anything clear about that) and try to just grab some coins without going near enemies, then collect ASAP, but you are anyway risking real HUCs

somewhere in past posts there is a link for the download of unity client + pruned chain to start quickly, but i can't comment/help about that game client because I Don't know/use/play it

I remember playing this when it first launched. Seems like forever ago. Is there a lite client that I can download so that I don't have to sync the blockchain? Client/server type of thing? thx  Cool

There's a bundle that comes with pruned blockchain and latest client. Just came out recently, check last few pages of thread.

Edit: See the all-in-one download in this post:
