Why does Bitpay suck so much?

I went to buy some items at a company using bitpay (over 1k usd) which I had bought items from in the past, and NO BTC address popped up, instead I get this BIP70 bullshit that doesn't work with my wallet..  Great... 

I am still deciding if I want to bother to load a wallet that bitpay's new protocol works with..

I am on the fence as to if I want to buy these items at all, so much hassle.  Why can't bitpay just put up a real BTC or BCH address for us to pay with, instead of some proprietary bullshit that only works with a handful of wallets.  This isn't what bitcoin is about.  Its about creating a simple method to pay, not the cluster fuck that bitpay is creating...

Yeah it sucks... But you can bypass it and get the address + amount by using one of those tools:

Mmm, I'll pass, for a few bucks sure, for a 1k+ USD transaction, I need to get the address straight from bitpay, not from some 3rd party website that gives me who knows what btc address...

You can actually get them by your own with a quite simple method:

Just send a GET request to the invoice URL with the header "Accept" equal to "application/payment-request" and you will see the payment data.

Why don't you just contact the seller and tell him about your issues with that payment gateway?Most sellers have their contact info available online(usually an email address) and they will be willing to help.Nobody wants to lose a customer.

Since others have given you suggestions on what to do, I hope you are able to do it seamlessly and even for people facing same would have to learn from it. For me, I would rather just covert to fiat and buy directly instead of the hassles being faced on my own fund that I wish to part away which would bring an income to them no matter how small. Me I am just hearing this method the first time and what is wrong in putting those who technological understanding of crypto is zero in mind?

Nah! It would be an another hassle thing for you to engage on when you do make p2p unless if you do make them as a middle man but i dont think they will grant your request since you are derailing yourself into their own terms. I do know how OP feels for not to be hassled too much even myself dont get used  to those things which would require lots of transactions to be done first.If we dont like BITPAY then dont use it, as simple as that yet there are still some other ways to make tx.

Me too.  I agree with OP that bitcoin isn't supposed to be this complicated, and people wonder why it hasn't been adopted as a currency.  Do you think the average person wants to deal with this bullshit?  This situation is something only a tech geek would even attempt to solve.  The average person would say, fuck this, I'm using my debit card!

I've used Bitpay before but not recently, and I think my usual wallet is compatible with anything they throw at it--but I don't know for sure.  I'm not a big tech person and I have no patience for this kind of hassle.  People need to realize that bitcoin should be easy and intuitive to use so that anyone who's used to paying with their credit card should be able to use bitcoin with zero problems--bitcoin already has enough obstacles which keep people from adopting it.  If Bitpay makes it even harder to use, they're not doing anyone any favors.

I've also been greatly annoyed by bitpay with the way they handle payments, ( Me being unable to copy the adress and amount manually easily.)

My thoughts were that too, I guess if you don't trust them you can try to run a script decoder yourself, (or do as TryNinja specified, that seems to work aswell.)

I doubt a multimillion $ business is going to change their payment methods just because there is one customer that has problems with it, especially if they're still arguably the best(-looking) bitcoin payment processor.

I really wouldn't argue that Bitpay made it easier for people that have a smaller understanding of bitcoin/crypto in general to make payments using this system vs the old system.

For one, if you have a webwallet ( blockchain.info ( which most inexperienced people have)) you won't be able to make a payment with this current system without decoding it yourself. the bitcoin: link just doesn't work with the webwallet ( atleast as far as i've experienced).

Couldn't agree more.I think it is the high time our community comes together and writes to all their service users to stop using them.It's absolutely pathetic user experience.The most basic part of a bitcoin transaction is the address and I'm so fuckin pissed that these idiots don't reveal an address.Like what the fuck were the developers thinking ?
Had to buy a domain one day and tried paying with bitcoin, didn't. Used my card instead of wasting two hours setting a new wallet up.

In theory, the new BIP70 payment URLs should be efficient and protect you from sending your coins to an unwanted address (clipboard-replacing malware should be visible as BIP70 enables wallets to display the SSL certificate and domain name of whoever you are sending your coins to, so you'll easily be able to spot such malware), but there's a whole lot of opposition to the BIP. Bitpay likely doesn't mean to do anything too bad with implementing the BIP, and they're likely legitimately trying to stop MITM attacks that can happen if your computer is infected with an aforementioned clipboard malware, but as I also said before, many wallets are strongly opposed to it and just plainly say they will not implement it into their wallets (an example being Samourai Wallet).

I still wish they would at least not force BIP70 URLs for payment and allow us to use the good ol' address and amount system they used to have, but I guess that's just how Bitpay wants to do things. I've been encouraging merchants to start using alternatives to Bitpay such as BTCPay, and though I have had little success, it doesn't take a lot of time to just send a message about it, and competition is great in an area of Bitcoin where there's little competition and single companies are allowed to push through things like forced BIP70 with little to no resistance. If everybody could do the same and at least spread the news about alternative payment gateways, perhaps a bit of competition from alternative payment gateways could encourage Bitpay to re-enable their old payment system.

I definitely understand your frustration, but it would do more harm than good. If merchants at some point are done with something that doesn't even bring in all that much revenue, they rather skip it. They won't bother trying to set up something else that may or may not work as they plan. Instead, try setting up some sort of petition to make BitPay aware of how many people want the old UI back. If enough people sign that petition, I am sure the numbers will speak for themselves and actually convince BitPay to change it as soon as possible, especially so if they also notice a drop in actual usage after their current implementation.

I have actually been using bitpay and am quite happy with their service. All you need to do is connect your card to your bitpay wallet and load your card from your bitpay wallet. It's actually very simple to do and very convenient.

I do t normally chime in on these discussions but it really is super simple once you have everything connected

Unless you:

a. Are using a wallet that doesn't support BIP70 urls.
b. Is using Tor and gets blocked by cloudfare[1].
c. Cares about privacy[2].
