You can use Blockchain.info but it is an online wallet. If you don't like using an online wallet, try to export the private keys(unencrypted) in Multibit and then use electrum to import private keys.

Electrum should not be used with imported keys. Just keep using Multibit and everything will be fine or send the bitcoins to a new wallet with a normal bitcoin transaction.

I thought has has some problem when using Multibit, that's why I said to import private keys to Electrum as I couldn't find any better wallet. If there is no problem, then I suggest you to continue with Multibit.

I don't understand why developers who are using github for everything else (version control, issue tracker) do not also make use of github's excellent binary releases upload/download facility that is automatically included in every project, its provided for free to all open source projects with unlimited storage and download bandwidth. You can even have free website hosting for every github project if you want, you can have a full blown static website with all bells and whistles and unlimited size and structure, you get the entire infrastructure for managing an open source project including project website and unlimited download hosting for free from github and can manage it even if all you have is a garden shed and a solar powered laptop and you cannot or don't want to afford running expenses and maintenance for separate (unnecessary) commercial web site hosting. Please make use of it!


Instructions for developers / project owners:

* click "releases"
* click "draft new release"
* make up a new tag name to create a new tag on your release branch (for example "v0.5.18") (or choose an existing tag from the drop down list, its an ordinary git tag to tie the release to a specific git revision)
* add a title (for example "v0.5.18")
* add a description (summarize whats new in this release)
* drag & drop the binary installers for all supported OS into the area below the description field
* click "publish release" (or save the draft for continuing later if you are not yet done)

* click "releases"
* click one of the green download buttons to download the installer

* you already have release tags on your master branch because your revision tree is well organized and you did everything by the book so far, you just forgot to attach the binary installers to the releases, so it will be quite easy
* click "releases"
* for the release "0.5.18" click "Edit"
* drag & drop the 0.5.18 installers into the grey "attach binaries" box, wait until upload is complete
* click "update release"

Thanks for your post on hosting our binaries on github.com
In the early days of Bitcoin we did host our binaries directly in the github releases as you suggest.
Other teams such as Armory did too.

Then quite suddenly we got notice that (because of bandwidth costs I think) no-one could continue doing so.
Hence both MultiBit and Armory had to host them elsewhere. This was in late 2012 I think from memory. I wouldn't want this to happen to us again.

Also for MultiBit HD because we are charging a small amount per send we have to get a user agreement before they use the software (usual legalese with a click through EULA). We are putting this into both the download of the installer and on first use of the software. The former I don't think we could do with the github.com releases as you can just download them directly.

It's a good suggestion nonetheless, it just wouldn't meet our needs now.

Lightweight Bitcoin clients are gaining increasing adoption among
Bitcoin users, owing to their reduced resource and bandwidth con-
sumption. These clients support a simplified payment verification
(SPV) mode as they are only required to download and verify a part
of the block chain—thus supporting the usage of Bitcoin on con-
strained devices, such as smartphones. SPV clients rely on Bloom
filters to receive transactions that are relevant to their local wal-
let. These filters embed all the Bitcoin addresses used by the SPV
clients, and are outsourced to more powerful Bitcoin nodes which
then only forward to those clients transactions relevant to their out-
sourced Bloom filters.
In this paper, we explore the privacy of existing SPV clients.
We show analytically and empirically that the reliance on Bloom
filters within existing SPV clients leaks considerable information
about the addresses of Bitcoin users. Our results show that an SPV
client who uses a modest number of Bitcoin addresses (e.g.,<20)
risks revealing almost all of his addresses. We also show that this
information leakage is further exacerbated when users restart their
SPV clients and/or when the adversary has access to more than one
Bloom filter pertaining to the same SPV client. Motivated by these
findings, we propose an efficient countermeasure to enhance the
privacy of users which rely on SPV clients; our proposal can be
directly integrated within existing SPV client implementations.

As with all things like this it needs a bit of study and thought to mitigate.

I will never use multibit again after the news and comments been reading regarding so many wallets been hacked and lost funds. Not sure how this has happened but decided to move my coin from multibit back over to normal wallet and android and paper wallets. Seems too much is going on with 3rd party clients. Just hope it gets fixed as might conceder in the future as  BTC client for pc and android is stupidly big in data.

Can anybody point me to a good way to build multibit client without internet? 

I'd like to build in a secure environment. 

Even allowing maven to grab all kinds of files I get this error:

Failed to execute goal on project multibit: Could not resolve dependencies for project org.multibit:multibit:jar:0.5.18: Could not find artifact com.oracle:javafx:jar:2.2.40 at specified path /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/lib/jfxrt.jar ->

As I understand there are still a number of vulnerabilities claimed to be associated with OpenJDK8 and so probably JavaFX needs to be buit separately?  In my opinion it would be better to avoid all these kind of external packages that aren't necessary with core Multibit functionality, but I would gladly be educated otherwise.

Try re-installing. It may help you. Mine synced yesterday and there was no problem.

Problem solved. I just deleted the old multibit.spv file. Thanks:)

If you have a problem syncing, then not only should you delete the multibit.spvchain, but you may also be running out of heap. If you check the log and see something like this, 'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space', then you need to change the default -Xmx value. On the mac, you would need to add this line to the .bashrc:

export _JAVA_OPTIONS='-Xmx2048m'

then run:

source .bashrc

then run:
/Applications/MultiBit.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub

You should see a line that shows this:
Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: -Xmx2048m

You will have to install any software for remote control such as teamviewer. I don't recommend this as this isn't really secure and may lead to loss of your BTC. If you are frequent traveler, you can try it. You can use Blockchain.info for this, IMHO it is a little better. But for secure saving, create a paper wallet and store BTC there and use wallet like Mycelium and use their feature for sending BTC from paper wallet instantly. It will wipe every details too, so it is more secure than ways mentioned above.
