I like the look of this coin and have been mining for a few days, however it bugs me that the coin might get a bad name due to the trolling of the original announcement thread.

If you Google Murraycoin, the trolled thread is the second hit. Google "bitcointalk murraycoin" and it's the first hit....

Could a moderator delete that original thread?

Could a moderator delete that original thread?

The guy(s) trolling in that thread have nothing else to do with their time (truly)...so they're literally searching Google for "Murraycoin" and then clicking that thread over and over to move it up (Google's algorithm begins to assume that it's the most relevant thread.) I could put in a request to delete it...but it is the original announcement thread. Preferably, I'd like to modify the original post and title (therefore removing all of those relevant keywords) and replacing it with a link to this thread -- that would likely solve the problem while also keeping the original announcement thread online in case anybody is specifically looking for it.

My mistake was locking the thread before making the above edits; I'll see what I can do. The good news is that anybody that cares to actually look into the garbage in thread thread will quickly realize the guy(s) posting in there had a screw loose.

Two days left until the Murraycoin reward drops from 320 MRY -> 210 MRY. These drops will continue every 5000 blocks (~6 days) until we get down to 75 MRY blocks (where it will stay for about 90 days.) After that, the standard blocks start (60 MRY/block.)

Blink twice and these current returns will be a distant memory. Start mining Murrays before this blows up in the media!

Reddit Tip Bot launches this evening -- will post info when that happens along with instructions if you're interested in getting involved.

Tomorrow we will be focused on paper wallet sales on the website (more info will be released soon) and the Google AdWords campaign. We have several major conference calls this week as well -- we will keep you all updated as things progress. Obviously this thread gets buried rapidly with all of the insanity in this forum -- be sure to follow us on Twitter as all official announcements will be made there first.

The Bill Murray Charity Fund is approaching a balance of 150,000 MRY! Thanks to everybody who has donated thus far. Obviously, the bulk of the contributions have come from FusionHash...so indirectly everybody mining at the FusionHash pool has been contributing. The more Murraycoins we have in there, the more motivation Bill has to promote Murraycoin and raise its value.

Updated original post with a couple of new P2Pools.

Somebody added a Murraycoin request at Cryptsy -- since it's already up, we might as well show our support for Murraycoin by adding a like and/or comment:

https://cryptsy.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/74762

Not sure what kind of impact this has but the more exposure we get early, the better.

Reddit Tip Bot is live and fully-functional...but the layout/etc isn't quite up to Murraycoin standards yet. We will post instructions soon once we put some finishing touches on it.

If anybody has access to the FusionHash Exchange beta, please drop me a PM; I have a couple of brief questions regarding MRY volume and will compensate you for your time.

  • 58 Million Total Coins

Hi. I'm a newbie to this coin launching stuff, traded BTC but not any other crypto currencies yet. Can you explain what you mean by this?  Does the murraycoin website not explain this stuff or does it explain it and I just don't grok what you mean?

When you buy a coin, you are interested, how many coins are already mined. When you don't know how high the block reward is, you cannot know.

Sure, in the source code you'll find it:
"/*
      Total Coins: 58 Million
        * 1st month, ~16 Million Coins will be generated
First 5,000 Blocks are promo blocks with a 1950 coin reward (Bill Murray was born in 1950.)
Early miners are encouraged to be generous with promo block rewards.
          Every 5,000 Blocks (~6 days) the reward steps down from 1950, 500, 320, 210, 130, 80.

      * During the next 80,000 blocks (~90 days) the reward is 75.

      * 1st Year, ~34 Million Coins will be generated
Every 300,000 Blocks (~350 days), the reward (starting at 60) is halved each period

      * Through the next few decades the Remaining 24 Million will be generated
~19.5 Million come from first 2 Years of 300K Blocks
   */"

Thanks. That was very informative! Are people supposed to look in the source for this information normally or is this something that should be posted up front or on the website? I am trying to figure out what you meant by "this is just stupid or intended."  What does "this" refer to in your sentence?

I haven't looked at very many of these coins, though I have taken a great interest in the past 4 or 5 releases to get a feel of how this works. I still don't know if this particular coin's block reward structure is any better than average.  The 1950 coin reward for the first 5000 blocks seems very high and it looks like those blocks were all mined out by a handful of people (I'm almost one of them Smiley I got started mining around the last 100 of those blocks). Although it says early miners are encouraged to be generous with promo block rewards, from what I've seen so far with the recent released coins, being generous is the last thing early miners can be expected to do (regardless of what they say).  They usually seem to just wait for a coin to go on an exchange and dump a lot of them there at a high price before the market can figure out what the real value is. I wouldn't be surprised if this initial introduction price is what the charity donation will be pegged to, since it will probably be the highest value the coin ever sees, if other launches are any good indication.

Since newly launched coins only last a couple weeks around here before being forgotten about and languishing on the scrap heap, I don't think any block reward claims past 30 or 60 days are part of the value equation for me.  This coin is not being promoted very strongly yet it still being mined by a handful of people (the hashrate looks really low, 50 mhz/second or so?). Who would want to mine it any more after all the fattest bonus blocks are gone? No diss to the coin or Bill Murray. Just being realistic. A lot of effort went into making this coin but it's still very quiet around here.

It does seem a bit quiet - would like to have some more posts from dev about future plans - ?

Is there any word on when it may be listed on an exchange?

There will be news for Murraycoin in the coming week. It will be worth the wait.
The block rewards are still very high. People with one gpu card are avg .5btc a day.
This price is in relation to a private exchange so the price may very well be higher.
Everyone is too used to a climate of hurry up and release and as a result coins fail almost immediately.
Just like the real physical world of business the more planning behind a product the better chance it has to
match peoples needs and have success.

Murraycoin has been in development for many months unlike coins that are made and released within the same week.
As a result of this detailed hard work you can expect great things for yourself as miners, the Bill Murray Charity and even if you are on the
sidelines just watching you will have a chance to participate in some great happenings.
I have mined Murraycoin from the first week and continue to do so and will do despite there being coins of higher profitability currently.
The long term value plus the chance to really make a difference to the lives of many associated with the Murray Bros Foundation is what draws me me and holds me to this.

Don't get me wrong I could be mining doge for just a day or 2 to pay the electricity and switching back to Murray, or I could change every day to a new released coin and have a diverse portfolio of what if coins.
The early block rewards are incentives and I say early because they are still amazing. However even at standard block I will continue to mine.
Before you say this coin was mined early heavily by the dev, it wasn't. The bigger holdings are by people like me who took a chance and still haven't paid the electricity bill. Its like me crying over the money people made of DOGE coins recent release or Vertcoin 2 day rise.
Good luck to all the coins old and new and all the miners. Anyone can tell what the most profitable coin is on www.coinwars.com if its on an exchange. Its harder to tell the VALUE if its new or unreleased. Don't focus on what other people have focus on what you have and can have.
AND once you HAVE it what you can GIVE. You CAN give to the Murray Bros Foundation immediately.
This coin is about belief in something brilliant. Its about building VALUE to the people who believe in it at every stage and taking this value to the outside world. This coin WILL have global media coverage before you know it.
Its quiet now but don't put your ear to close to the speakers things are about to get LOUD.

This sounds like a good coin, but I have two questions:
1. Has Bill Murray endorsed the coin? since you use his picture, if not then it could be ended like Coinye.
2. Is it true that dev has a lot of coins? I heard he has more than 10% of the coins?
