Starting a project and need your thoughts

I have a website that I am working on for a learning portal. I wanted to create a learning portal where people can sign up for classes online, with topics such as management and leadership and then grow from there to other topics. My plan is to have something similar to Coursera. I will be teaching some of the courses along with my friend whom is a professor. We will bring on others as well.

I want to create a token that can be accepted by merchants online, as well as on my own site and traded on exchanges. My plan is to use money raised through the coin to hire a person to work on the website (as well as additional staff that I already have lined up), capital for the company, and for charitable works ( ex: grant funding for K-12 programs, food drives, etc).

I want the token to have a real use. What do you all think about this? What ideas do you have on how I can add value to the people? I want it to be really successful because I want to have a positive impact on helping improve the quality of other people's lives. This is something I am very passionate about.

Also, what about token supply? How much do you think is a good starting supply? Also, I was thinking of coin  value. What do you think a good starting price should be? I wanted it to be reasonable.

I dont see the need for using a token model or blockchain for this idea. Plus there are a lot of free or cheap online learning programs online, which makes gaining traction rather difficult.

Honestly, it will be tough to startup something like a learning portal through ICO.

First, and obviously because most of the competitors offer free basic services.
Secondly, ICOs are best used as an asset or share-based unit, not as the currency for transactions and payments.
Lastly, People online aren't interested on being taught to learn at all (yes, that's the truth), mostly looking for information for a couple of things like hobby, curiosity, get rich quick, etc.

Here's my suggestion: You will find it hard to find the potential investors if you just offer the said service as it is, you need to find a unique additional service along with the learning portal if you want this to succeed. And that's the million-dollar assignment for you and your team.

That’s a great project with a great idea. Creating a token that would be acceptable by the merchant online will be very helpful for the investors.  This will provide liquidity of the investments to the investors. So their funds will not get stuck anywhere. Charitable works is another great step if you seriously mean it.  So all in all it’s a good project.
