It has become clear over the last several months that AltCoins are not welcome here at BitCoinTalk. AltCoin posts have been confined to one subforum for some time in order to keep the rest the site BTC only. The AltCoin subforum has had little moderation and has been generally messy. Three subforums were added recently to help organize and there is stickied thread about it. I commented more was needed to keep the AltCoin subforum growing and it was made clear that the BitCoinTalk mods have no interest in it growing. And just yesterday, it was announced that Giveaway threads are not allowed and posting or participating in one could lead to you being banned. There are other sites the Alt lovers can move to but none seem good enough. We need a new forum for all the coins. One that has sections for Pools, Gambling, Differnt Hashes, etc. In order to be successful, this project would require several additional members. What do YOU have to offer? I am very good (almost OCD) at organizing things. See my CPU Only List. I have hosting ready to go if there is enough interest.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Cryptocointalk is a good forum for all altcoins with a good layout. https://cryptocointalk.comI have been hosting the official Luckycoin community forum there for many months and I am happy with the forum. Starting a new forum from scratch and get people moving seems to be huge challenge.

Yes, this!
Having one central location to know about new alts popping up is great. While I suppose this will continue here in BitcoinTalk, having a free-wheeling, (relatively) uncensored forum dedicated to alts, as well as Bitcoin, would be awesome, and a lot better than signing up to 30 or 40 (or more) individual boards dedicated to just one specific alt.
Keep us posted on how (and where) this shapes up.

Im all for keeping the Alt Coin section, Im of the mind set that, its still currently the most informative place to find out about new coins and shouldnt be removed until its not actually being used. If people are concerned about the posts in it then they shouldn't shut it, they should get some people to moderate it more often. I used to run a forum with about 300 members and that was time consuming, I had 4 staff members and we used to be snowed under with moderation work, I'd hate to see what the current guys (and girls?) go through with 229,131 members! So i understand the work load (on a much lighter scale!!) theymos post was very contradictory if you ask me, first its most threads then you can have a give away thread but not give people an incentive to post in the thread (so you could post a give away, link to it, then just discuss the giveaway in the thread, this technically would be ok going by his post if you stop reading at that point) then at the end he decides to ban them entirely! the guy changes his mind more than i do! Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections. From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.
Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.
Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here.
the main problem i used to have on my forum was actually getting a clear defined set of rules, but once they were in place it made modding the forums much easier for new staff members that took over from old ones. I think more Mods and a clear rule set is whats needed - not closing the section and running from the problem (after all the altcoin section is the most active section, if I had this many threads/posts on a daily basis, i would stick in an advert and then offer payment to the mods - nothing major but an incentive to actually take on the responsibility.

I just made this reddit community: http://www.reddit.com/r/altcoinforum/If anyone here uses reddit, feel free to let me know and I can add you as a moderator. Maybe I'll start a Goldcoin giveaway to generate some interest. Not everybody uses reddit though. I guess there's probably going to be a gap in the market for a an altcoin forum to rise now. Most of the others aren’t very lively but I guess this ban will give them a boost.

Use the power of code. Seriously 90s forums are much too inefficient. You need something that is machine readable: https://raw.github.com/benjyz/AltCoins/master/alts.csvSomebody should write a platform from scratch. Use cryptocurrencies to filter noise and direct people to where they want to go. Nobody profits from too much noise. Currently there are too little people involved who can code. The output of such a group is then zero. You want to give people a chance who can produce something, not marketing/pump&dump crap. Imagine there are 10'000 Alt-Coins. Who in the world is going to go through all the projects, test and evaluate them? The way to do this is to use cryptocurrencies to pay maintainers, to put viruses and junk into the trashcan. And you also don't want big-shots trying to raise 20 million dollars.

okay, I can do some work. I would start build a repo, as I said and establish an avenue for sensible discussions, cutting out the noise.
best thing is to code a new message board from scratch, instead of 10 year old PHP stuff

Where ever this leads to but make sure
1) Rules are stated in the beginning. 2) Giveaways must be separated from the alt-coin announcements. 3) Task giveaways must be separated from free giveaways. 4) MODS must be active and before applying a new rule , community's opinion must be heard. 5) General discussion has a separated sub-forum
i think that's enough and these were the main problems why everyone wants a new forum....

I just started building one this morning before seeing this thread. I mainly came to THIS forum for the alt coins, yet it seems they don't want us. I figured running my forum off of the same forum software that bitcointalk uses would be a safe bet considering everyone is accustomed to that layout and such.

an other strong rule
No self-moderated topics in announcements. we don't want someone insert trojans in wallets and then delete any post from people who are warning about it

I have received several PMs from people interested in joining but I thought there would be a lot more interest. st0ned is already working on his own solution. Cryptocointalk is already running. And there a few other small forums.
Do most of you agree that a brand new forum should be created?

Well I say yes..Because this forum if it's created we pretty much have some support and sure members of the new one...and it must be especially made for alt-coins....and some forums that are created after "those new rules" are not much active... And active one like altcoingiveaways is made only for giveaways...so I say we need another one with a significant amount of community and members ready to work for it...
