Over in the Marketplace forums there is an announcement of a new site, the "Crypto X Changer" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=43653.msg521437

The site boldly claims "Please note we will not be disclosing any of our additional & special features until our official Launch Day."

Their launch will be sometime this month.  The launch will be live on OnlyOneTV / The Bitcoin Show.

First reply in the thread is from BitcoinMedia recommending the service that little is known about, and then this post on the Bitcoin Media site is made http://bitcoinmedia.com/69878975

So full support from a site I am currently contributing to just for the love of Bitcoin https://bitcoin.org.uk/forums/topic/213-need-bitcoinmedia-contributors/

Looking quickly into this http://twitter.com/cryptoxchanger/ has their first Follower and person they are Following is BitcoinMedia and BruceWagner accounts.

So a connection is there.  Promotion is being made.  Why do I feel funny?

I was going to make a post with this information in a little tighter and funner to read way, but honestly I have no intentions of trying to queer any deal between whoever is currently behind Bitcoin Media, Bruce Wagner, OnlyOneTV, and the upcoming CryptoXChanger by using the BitcoinMedia site as a platform for such curiosities.

I'm confused, what is the point to this post?
Is there a message your trying to convey, or are you simply trying to formulate an idea thats not based on fact, rather your personal opinion?

Do you have any proof that Bitcoin Media, Bruce Wagner, OnlyOneTV, and the upcoming CryptoXChanger have anything to do with each other?
It seems like the only facts you have are that they follow each other on twitter, and theres a post on BitcoinMedia about it.

Forgive me if this comes off with some haste, I'm only trying to be prudent here.

I follow the Free Masons on twitter and I'm a Jew, does that mean I'm an elder of zion and want to take over the world ?

Please take no offense here, but enlighten me!  Smiley

I believe you missed the question, Why do I feel funny?

This negates the rest of your odd post where you have taken the information that I am attempting to not string together into some weird conspiracy theory, but rather I am generally fucking curious as to what is going on here.

The other fact is the post BitcoinMedia (the user, not the site) has made on top of the post on BitcoinMedia (the site, not the user), rings as odd to me is all, I question it, I am attempting to discuss it on a forum even.  So I am glad you asked for clarification of my post, I am confusing at times and am aware of it.  So the fact is everything I posted.

To make it super clear, the intentions of my thread are to NOT draw fucked up conclusions without reasoning, thus asking questions and trying to find information Smiley

The reason that Crypto X Changer is appearing everywhere is because we have started to get our PR organised.

There is no links between anyone, Crypto X Changer is a private Australian PTY LTD company with no connections to any of the mentioned media companies, there will be advertising in many places for the Exchange and our other coming services. We had provided our initial post to a few media site owners.

The Exchange is a totally custom built trading platform which has taken many months to complete, with many integrated features.
Many advanced security features have been implemented for the safety and security of our exchange users.

Regards

The Crypto X Changer Team

Awesome, thanks for that clarification.

Then now I should be asking the user (not the site) BitcoinMedia why they are recommending your services without using it ? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=43653.msg521437

Perhaps that says more about the value to put on BitcoinMedia's recommendations than it does about Crypto X Changer (which I wish well in its launch). Unless media outlets have been given private beta access to test the interface before launch, I will take any future recommendation by BitcoinMedia with a very large grain of salt. Lazy media these days just reproduce press releases.

We had extensive talks with BitcoinMedia and other Media explaining why our Exchange will benefit the Bitcoin community, and from what we can tell BitcoinMedia are just as excited as we are about the launch of our product to the market.

We look forward to benefiting the community.

Well as a media outlet, I hope BitcoinMedia.com can remain as unbiased as possible when reporting news (the site, not the user) and press releases.   Currently contributing to the site, I like knowing there are no conflict of interests in the background (and I also hope the things I am posting are a little bit better than reproduced press releases, look for that "Bitcoin Porn" seal of quality / spam / http://bitcoinmedia.com/bitcoinica-three-days-passes-tradehill-second http://bitcoinmedia.com/updated-solidcoin-attack-method-used-in-namec  http://bitcoinmedia.com/mt-gox-taking-over-bitcointalk-the-official-u / spam / )

1.Bruce Wagner has nothing to do with bitcoin media-how many times does this have to be repeated? cryptoexchange was intending to launch on the show and has nothing to do with bruce either.
2.Ive had long discussions with cryptoexchanger and believe the platform they are bringing out will be great for bitcoin. They have spent a great deal of money on security and getting everything in order. Maybe if you spent less time wearing a tin foil hat and speaking to people they would share stuff with you .
3. I copy and pasted a forum post.
4.Ive defended the bitcoinmedia blog since noagendamarket left with people saying it has gone to shit.
5.Which competing exchange told you to post this shit in the forum and why didnt you contact people first with your concerns ? Lots of things get posted on the blog from youtube videos to reviews to personal opinions. Take what you read with a grain of salt because bitcoinmedia has been a totally volunteer job which I see no one else stepped up for. The pr department of bitcoin is non existent. Why post this on the forum which looks like an accusation of impropriety because it talks about a new bitcoin exchange?
6. What is mt gox paying you to do their dirty work ? Its about time a professional exchange was started to compete with them. The fact 90% of bitcoin infrastructure is owned by them and as soon as a promising competitor wants to start up they get attacked seems a bit suspicious to me. This post reeks of a hit piece.

FWIW I get a lot of behind the scenes access to many different sites before they are released. Dont be jealous be happy there is someone in the community these sites trust enough to entrust with their news. No wonder some businesses avoid bitcoin because of bitcoin forum members calling them scammers.

P.S. CoinMedia is not a journalist. Calling them a "media outlet" is retarded. Its a BLOG.

If cryptoexchange is still around in a year and hasn't run off with everyone's money, then I might consider checking it out. Launching the site on convicted fraudster Bruce's bitcoin 'show' means that I'm going to stay well away from it until then. From my inquiries with bitcoin trading friends, I am not alone with my views either.

Launching a bitcoin site on Bruce's vanity show is like a childcare creche being opened by Gary Glitter.

I'll lay it down straight. It surprises me that someone who is planning on launching a bitcoin exchange can be willing to have anything to do with someone who has:

a) Run a mortgage scam company, defrauding many desperate and vulnerable people.
b) Has defaulted on rents around the country.
c) Heavily promoted MyBitcoin, and continued to do so for weeks after being warned by the community.

There are also a lot of other allegations about Bruce, which while are serious, don't have any reflection on the bitcoin economy.

The vast majority of bitcoin users know about Bruce, and I believe that most of them do not trust him. He was asked by many people to explain some important points regarding his past and present dealings, and he replied by running away to a forum where he moderates every single post.

With regards to you advertising your site, this forum is probably the best solution, as are other bitcoin forums. If your site is secure, becomes trusted and works, then word of mouth will do the rest. If you desperately want a video interview, there are people other than Bruce who have produced some quite informative bitcoin video interviews.

Surely you can understand why many people will not trust you if you are in any way connected with Bruce? Many people pulled out of MtGox because they still advertise on his show (myself included). Many of us have been burned by the MyBitcoin fraud to ever consider being scammed twice.

Ok JonHind,

We can now see....

Our company is completely legitimate and we do not at all want to be associated with any other companies that are like that.

Crypto X Changer was built and designed for the Bitcoin Community from the ground up by our own in house programming team.

We are reaching out to all audiences to promote Bitcoin and our safe and easy platform, making it very simple, easy and bullet proof for Professionals through to non technical people. There are many more products that we have in the works following the Exchange, to bring Bitcoin more to the general public and make it very acceptable and easy to use for Merchants, Consumers and other Bitcoin related business's.

Our goal is to be totally transparent to the community, we have been working on our exchange for a long time now and we have invested a lot of money into our Hardware Infrastructure, Security and of course the development of our exchange. Crypto X Changer is here for good, we are not a fly by night scam, we are an Australian registered company. Our passion for Bitcoin is the same as our users.

Regards

Thanks for the reply, but it still does not allay the many fears that people have concerning any new exchange. It's all just words at this stage. However, I will give your site the benefit of the doubt. Time will tell me if I will consider putting my money into it though.

Regarding the:

Quote
Their launch will be sometime this month.  The launch will be live on OnlyOneTV / The Bitcoin Show.

Are you now reconsidering how you are going to launch the site? I have a fine line that I have drawn regarding Bruce, and I refuse to have any of my investments in sites that are connected to him in any way. I know many other people who were hit with the MyBitcoin scam who think the same way.

Check out this post for a brief summary regarding Bruce. The entire thread (which was started by Bruce) is an interesting read.

Anyone trying to promote their show let alone being launched, by being interviewed by an experienced and clever con artist  - well, you can see why this might need a rethink Wink

I wish you all the best of luck if you are genuine.

BitcoinMedia is an open outlet for people to post any topics. I try not to restrict the editors.

Nonetheless I had the same worries you did about that post and was waiting to speak to CoinMedia on IRC. Especially when members of my own group are pushing me to advertise our services then pointing to that post when I refuse. BitcoinMedia should really be an educational community site free from commercials.

Dude, calm down, "its news"   Anyone can leave comments.   I'm super glad I made this thread now, mentioned multiple times there is NO conspiracy, I am not automatically assuming or connecting ANY dots, that is why I made the damn thread and did not make a post on BitcoinMedia.com or anywhere else bringing up this.   I thought maybe this could be discussed.

Thanks genjix.   At the very least things are very clear regarding BitcoinMedia (the site) versus BitconMedia (the user), not as related as one would think.

Blogs are sadly a form of a media outlet, welcome to last week when the Internet accepted Blogs as a legit form of media long ago (note, not as a form or journalism, but a media outlet describes blogs more than it does a legit news site).  I am not happy with this is how the world is, but I accept it, you should too. Let's progress instead of regress.

There was no shitfight until I think your posts came in here.  I am sorry I offended you.  I hope cryptoXchanger continues to take the high road and avoid getting into conflicts in this thread, I wish the business well, and I wish this funny feeling that something is 'up' behind the site would go away, but some replies in this thread are leading me to think otherwise.

Like this..

What are your thoughts again for marketing and spreading the word about our exchange without being shot down by people like you discrediting business's like ours immediately?
Do you want the users of your site to trust you without knowing anything?   Why would ANY Bitcoin site want to operate like that... but more importantly..  "PEOPLE LIKE YOU" lol.   Potential customers?   Ones who are inquisitive?  Curious?  Care a little bit about the companies behind the services they use?

I'm glad you calmed down, emoticons are a start Wink     It's not about you, me, or whoever (okay, well now in some cases it does seem to be about you lol....but that is because your user name and the site sharing that title, not you as a person or whatever, no ill will or intent).

From my view, the best currency exchange is about to open, it will debut on OnlyOneTV, the services are touted by BitconMedia as being awesome, yet no one else other than these three parties seems to have any information regarding this exchange. Thus this thread, nothing more, nothing less.   I assure you though, I would have felt like complete ass if I didn't make this thread with my concerns.  I hope others do not sit on their hands if something smells fishy with other things they see in all the Bitcoin communities.

O_O   I'm confused.... Who is the person behind that post above and why produce offensive style of communication?  Usage of 'shit' or other profanity is not necessarily offensive, however, in the context it was used, it seems a bit embarrassing and/or degrading, in my opinion. =/

haha, I didn't even notice his little list of things, they all were moot points so already forgotten.   The amount of defense and offense being taken in this thread screams loudly that there is partnerships or something else we just do not know about that would make a person post such b.s.

The amount of defense and offense being taken in this thread screams loudly that there is partnerships or something else we just do not know about that would make a person post such b.s.

The only one screaming in this thread is you my friend.

Step 1: Start a thread accusing people of collaborating with Bruce Wagner, based on.. well based on nothing.

- They don't reply: It's a conspiracy!
- They reply: It's a conspiracy!
- They play along with your bullshit: It's a conspiracy!
- They defend themselves: It's DEFINITELY a conspiracy!!!

Get a grip of yourself. Try going outside for a little while?

I can't find either an ACN or an ABN for Crypto X Changer Pty Ltd.  The business name doesn't even appear to be registered.  Even if you're "trading as" under a holding company, you still need to register the business name unless it's your personal name which it clearly isn't in this case.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

Somebody pass me the Jerkins.

If you would have spent $50 for a professional copywriter, I wouldn't be raising my red flag. It may pass the smell test for the average Joe, but for this community, I think not.

Personally, I would have written it in E-Prime.

They've posted in the other thread that their launch will probably be delayed until October.  Until they post basic business information about themselves and who's behind the company, you'd be insane to deal with them no matter how many buzzwords they use on their website.

Lets see, "Bitcoin Users" will trust, en mass:

1) Magical Frenchmen in Japan with their bitcoins (single point of failure)

2) 17 year old Exchange operators (untested services)

3) Convicted financial frauds (no need to name names)

4) Unknown and anonymous sites with large amounts of digital assets (mybitcoin)

5) Phishing emails (mtgox/tradehills phishing victime)

6) This forum (cosbycoin anyone?)

7) Exploitable open source software (solidcoin, namecoin, geld whatever it is)

Cool Over The Counter Ratings (seriously)

9) Paypal (many still use paypal for bitcoin transactions)

10) Any new item of the week

Any questions?

inorite, I heard some bitcoiners believe astrology too!

That means bitcoiners are dumb and bitcoin is bad.

They havent launched yet. Untill they do the only thing that you can call it is a landing page.

People need to leave off the calls of "scam" and "conspiracy" for every new site that arrives.

Unless those complaining about it so loudly are paid by the competition of course. Now theres a conspiracy for you.

Asking for the registration details of a business which claims to be registered in Australia is hardly calling them a scam. It's information which they should be disclosing in advance if they want to establish pre-launch credibility and which they're legally required to disclose the moment they start offering goods or services to the public.

They've made an unsupported claim about being a Pty Ltd company.  The onus is on them to provide the information which allows their potential users to verify that claim.  There are no existing registrations which preclude them from registering Crypto X Changer as either a company name or a business name and they can't legally trade under that name without doing one or the other.  If they're going to claim some kind of ethical high ground then they need to back that up with verifiable facts.  Recent registrations for which I can find records are a company called International Bitcoin Exchange Pty Ltd which was registered on 20 June 2011 and Australian Bitcoin Exchange which was registered as a business name only in WA on 1 July 2011.

The Australian operations of their competitors have collided with regulatory issues here and will probably continue to do so until they become compliant with local business registration and financial services requirements.  None of them appear to be registered for GST and that's a big red flag given that the GST threshold is only $75,000.  If the volume of money going through their accounts has been an issue for their Australian banks as they've claimed in the past then their turnover is high enough to require GST registration and the potential for nasty things to happen if they're not GST compliant is significant.

One of their competitors is currently the subject of a strike-off action by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.  The circumstances under which ASIC will initiate company deregistration are outlined here.  If they forgot to update their details with ASIC when they moved their operations from one state to another (the "best" case scenario for the strike off action) then someone needs a damned good slap because the registered office of the company is where nasty legal documents such as Director Penalty Notices from the ATO and Statutory Demands from creditors (including the ATO) get sent and if those aren't responded to within the required (very short) time frame then seizure of assets and/or forced liquidation of the company are very real possibilities even if the company is technically solvent.

https://westpoint.asic.gov.au/asic/ASIC.NSF/byHeadline/ASIC%20initiated%20deregistration%20of%20a%20company

Anyone looking to operate a Bitcoin exchange in Australia needs to explain to their users how they intend to avoid the issues which have affected their competitors operations here.  Good intentions won't avoid those issues.

At least they've now revamped their website so it doesn't look like it was formatted by a 15 year old any more (still need to run spell check guys).

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

The only thing I can say is that they are following all legal, technical and taxation advice from qualified legal experts. I have seen their asic registration page so while that may not assuage you it will be released and full disclosure is coming.

You should be aware of the massive costs involved in even getting to this point. What happened to competitors is not important here nor is it relevent. Its best to avoid gossip which is really unproductive.

Obviously they are watching this thread and are taking advice on board. There will be more information forthcoming at the appropriate time and in due course. Thanks for bringing these issues up so we can discuss them.

Guys dont leave any concerns on the table.  Smiley

All people are asking for is a bit of accountability and evidence as to who is behind the exchange. It is only fair given the repetitive scams that crop up all the time.

Until such evidence exists, I would not recommend sharing a cent with any company like this.

JonHind,

As we have mentioned many times before, we will have all information about our company listed on our website, we will also be actively public with interviews so people can get to know us. We have already a number of interviews that have been booked.

We understand the negativity shown by all of these previous Bitcoin Scams, we are The Ethical Exchange where there is transparency and no funny business.
All of our business practices, our funds in and out of the exchange have been dealt with by professionals, we have not spared a cent anywhere with our Exchange, and we are here for the long run.

Our Servers, Software, Security and everything that completes our Exchange is world class and nothing has been spared for the safety of our clients and our company.

What Exchange do you currently use and recommend JonHind?

Thank You.

None. I traded a lot on MtGox, but pulled out after the hacks and when MtGox continued to advertise on Bruce's show.

All my remaining bitcoins have been stored on an offline USB stick since then, and they will remain there until I find an exchange that has solid performance and accountability. Tradehill is looking good so far, but I'm waiting until the reported chargebacks start biting before I consider using the site.

I'm sorry if I sounded negative towards you. My words were more a warning to potential users of your site to not invest a cent until you have provided sufficient documentation and reassurances. Until that happens, everything you have written is just words. Words are meaningless.

I wish you the best of luck.

Awesome! Buying coins in Australia has been fairly difficult recently. I hope you can make the process less painful for us Aussies.

My bad, BitcoinMedia. I thought the landing page was their homepage, and opted to not visit their other pages which, now I learn, there weren't any. Therefore, I admit I passed premature judgement. But--I still feel it important that time is taken to have well-written copy. I'm not very good at writing, but recognize a poor writing style when I read it. I'm sure that a professional writer, like evoorhees, can even tell the ball park age of a writer simply by reading their copy.

I look forward to this launch and truly wish them well.
