Hashrate:   1,888.82 Th/s
Round Time:   909:20:01

The whole pool is struggling for over 37 days to get a meagre 12.5 BTC?  Smiley

Could someone change the "14000 Th" in the OP? A difference in the order of a magnitude should justify that change.

I have problem with payments

b60940a05fb6ce2463831633fca1aba708a433d71f68f46efccd40241520c331

My payment is listed as a doublespend

That's a stale block from like 10 months ago.  Those payments have already been accounted for in subsequent blocks.  Blockchain.info just doesn't know how to categorize stale block coinbase transactions (I assume that's what you're looking at because they're the only ones that do this).

It seems bitcointalk inconsistently notifies me of new comments in this thread for some reason.  I will have to make it a point to check manually more often.

Anyway, I've been busy basically every waking hour for weeks.  I have gotten a lot done on the back end of things here and I'm going to shoot for getting Eligius-Ra finalized before the end of the year and make the seamless switch to Eligius-Hu at that time.  The front end may not be complete by then, but at least the new reward system will be in place.  As part of that process I will have to do essentially a final payout for Eligius-Ra.  I'm hoping we find at least a few blocks before then!  The transition will be seamless, Eligius-Ra stats archived, and Eligius-Hu started.  You do not need to do anything on your end.  However, you will need to update your miner usernames to something appropriate for securely making use of some upcoming new features.  Again, nothing needed now, and more on that later.

I think everyone will be pretty pleased with the upcoming enhancements. Smiley

Hi wizkid057,
I sent you a personal message on the forum here because I was getting no reply via the http://eligius.st/support/ ticket submission system. I haven't gotten a response here either though. Can you send a reply to me next time you're here, or let me know how to get in touch to get support and clarification on my stats and the miners I have pointed at Eligius?

Hey there, I still haven't gotten a reply even though I see you've checked in to this thread in recent days. From reading the thread, I realize you're busy with the Eligius transition, but how should I get in touch to ask questions or get support if not here or via the ticketing system? I don't see any other way to contact you listed on the Eligius site. I'll send another Personal Message in the event that the last was never received or got overlooked. I'd certainly appreciate any help or insight you can give.

The support ticket system appears to be working fine, and I have caught up on most tickets.

the ticketing system seems to be dead, isn't sending any emails - and no responses.... raised two - no email notification of ticket number, no way to follow up.

Strange. It looks like at least one other person that chimed in here was also having trouble with it. Last month when I was trying to submit tickets, I never got the emails confirming submission after submitting the form and arriving at the landing page telling me to expect email and to update with the links sent there. At the time, I attempted to send the request a few times with separate email addresses (2 different domains that I confirmed were working and receiving messages from others), and I even tried using different browsers. Nothing ever came through.

Anyway, should I try to resubmit a ticket there now then? I sent a follow up personal message your way here, so whichever is easier for you, just let me know.

There shouldn't be any benefit to pool hopping with CPPSRB, so I'd stick to Eligius.

Not entirely true. I had a miner outage I didn't care to repair (because the cost driving to the mining site are in no relation to the mining gain), so I went to the site after a month because I had other business there and repaired the miner.

Since then, the miner has reached a saturation in the "Estimated Change" value, so In fact I had a month of absence in the pool without this having any negative consequences to my reward for this round.

Assumed there will be a reward for this round ever again...

Strange.  I tested the ticket system from two different external emails and it worked fine.  Feel free to send a PM here or an email directly (my nick at Google's mail service).  Bitcointalk, on the other hand, is still skipping my notification emails occasionally.

Not 100% sure what you're implying, and I think you have some misunderstanding as to how CPPSRB works.  There is no benefit to pool hopping with CPPSRB.  With CPPSRB you can only get paid for what you submit.  If you don't submit shares you aren't going to paid for them.  Shares are never paid over their value at the time they are rewarded and are only rewarded once.  The estimated change shown on the states is just that: estimated.  The exact earnings are not calculated until a block is found.  In the meantime the stats estimate how much you would earn if the pool found a block right now based on how many shares you have in the top of the share log.  Assuming its estimate is mostly constant (due to a long unlucky round like this one with minimal change in overall pool hash rate) then when you stop mining/hop your estimated change will decrease as other miners displace your shares in the top of the CPPSRB share log, thus lowering your reward when a block is found and potentially slightly increasing that of other miners (they still only get paid for work done, but the share log could include more older shares with the absence of yours).

Luke-Jr's statement is in face true.  There is no benefit to a pool hopping miner under CPPSRB since you can only be rewarded for work done.

Not 100% sure what you're implying...

In cases like these, one would suggest to ask for clarification if you are not sure and not to start with a load of Cpt. Obvious statements.

I am not implying, I am merely stating a fact. It takes a certain time (cannot say exactly for this case, because the balance graph @eligius does not show sufficient history for me) IIRC about 2-3 weeks until your estimated reward hits a saturation.

In specific cases like this (extremely long round time), you may hit that even if you came quite late to the party.

I'm neither talking about pool hopping, nor did I say luke-jrs statement was wrong. It's just not entirely true for a very specific case: Clients joining the pool long after a round has begun and long before it ends (and staying until the end).

Of course to take any profit from this, one would have to foresee the future (how long the round will take), which most of us can't.

So even at this very moment, people could speculate and join eligius and if the current round still took - say- another 400 hours, they'd get overproportionally rewarded. If the round took less, they wouldn't. Because they do not know the future: Yes, practically pool hopping has no benefit. Theoretically - if you knew the future/round length, or had luck - there is benefit of late join.

... Of course to take any profit from this, one would have to foresee the future...

... Because they do not know the future: Yes, practically pool hopping has no benefit. ..... Theoretically - if you knew the future...

First, if someone can see the future, I can think of many more lucrative things to use this ability for besides bitcoin mining...

Second, by definition pool hopping is jumping from pool to pool in a manner that is consistently more profitable than just mining normally.  If part of the requirements for successfully pool hopping is to "know the future" then it's not going to be consistent.  If you could know the future you'd benefit far more from using your foreknowledge on a PPLNS pool which can overpay shares, not a reward system like CPPSRB where you basically have no practical benefit vs other miners even if you know the future.  Assuming you have a working crystal ball, at best, you'll know when all of your shares could be rewarded... but you still won't be paid more for that work than other miners on the pool that mined with you.

Next, your post is not quite accurate.  There is no defined period to reach any "saturation".  If a new miner starts mining now, their shares will be added to the share log along with everyone else's.  If the round continues past one block worth of shares submitted by all miners, this new miner (along with other miners) will no longer have 100% of their submitted shares in the top one-block of the share log.  The moment that miner stops mining (hops away) their shares in the top of the log begin to be displaced by those of other miners and their estimated reward will drop accordingly, assuming the round continues without a block being found.  There is no "saturation."

Finally, by your own admission this has no benefit to hopping.  Based on the facts about how the system works there is no benefit to hopping.  So overall I fail to see the purpose of your posts.

Have unfortunately smashed the previous time-based worst round record of 323.1 hours.

Have not broken the worst luck round, though.  That title goes to block 268,397 back in November 2013 with a number of shares submitted equal to 9.35x difficulty Sad  We're coming up on 8x difficulty for this round (avg of difficulties since round start), which is really bad luck also.

Hopefully we find a block soon because that will make the transition to the new reward system much smoother having a recent cut-off block.

doesn't the track record for the last year equate to an irrational streak of "bad luck" for this pool?

can you please elaborate on the new payment system and when it may take force.

Wow, I just started pointing a miner here and WOW what a streak of bad luck!  I am reconsidering staying at the moment because of this.  What is going to happen in the transtion?  What type of payment system is this pool moving to?

1426 hours since the last block  Huh

I really want to continue sticking it out with Eligius....  my hashrate may not be much but at least it's something in the pool..... but in all honesty, are we just too small to compete with the network difficulty now?  We are nearing 1600 hours without a block.... and I know luck has something to do with it but realistically is this more than just bad luck and just a pool that doesn't have enough power?  I'm by no means an expert on mining and pool operations so I'm genuinely asking this question for a discussion and I am absolutely not meaning it as any kind of attack.....  I'm just curious as to the logistics at play here.

Looks like we finally found a block!  (1,624 hour round... sheesh)

Unfortunately, the stats database is going crazy trying to calculate the stats for it given the huge round time.  Admittedly, I didn't take 2-month long rounds into account when designing the stats... might take quite a while before it shows up on the stats (currently erroneously shows as orphaned/stale because it's still processing...).  I'll probably manually flag it at some point if it doesn't finish.  The reward system (core server) is much more robust and had no issue updating its own internal data.  Balances should be correct and such on the stats, just the block list and round stats are broken until stats DB finishes compiling data.  Doesn't affect mining at all, just a stats slowdown.

On that note, I'm going to use this block (446827) as the cut point for the CPPSRB reward system.  CPPSRB is going to be offline as of now.  I'm also going to get a final payout for Eligius-Ra done within the next 24-hours or so.  Everything will switch to Eligius-Hu (next iteration of Eligius's backend) seamlessly at that time.  So, any shares submitted from this point forward will be on the new reward system, which I will detail very soon.  Suffice it to say it is a low variance high accuracy (no shifts) variant of PPLNS, zero fee as always, and with some added benefits for Eligius miners.  I've been calling it SAPPLNS in my code.  I'll also start bringing new front-end things online over the next couple of weeks.

As a variant of PPLNS, the new system will inherit the top of the CPPSRB share log as a starting point.  However, while the CPPSRB share log is essentially unlimited in size the new share log is finite.  As much as it pains me to do so, this marks the end of reward hope for very old SMPPS and CPPSRB shelved shares.  This move will increase overall profitability for miners who have continued to support Eligius, as well as having no potential drawback for new miners joining Eligius.  All of this, combined Eligius's continued zero-fee mining, plus the help of some new features of this new reward system should make it possible for Eligius miners to have profitability greater than any other pool.  This has been many months in the making, and I'm still not done with some of the best features.  So there's only better things ahead from now on.

Anyway, I'll do a full official announcement of the changes probably tomorrow night.  Until then!

-wk
