Hello guys, please forget merits for a while and focus on another tasks.
If you see, bitcoin discussion section is full of spam. For example there are threads like: How to explain bitcoin to child, baby, mother-in-law and etc, fear of bitcoin (new phobia?), bitcoin vs paypal (what the hell do they have common?), what would happen to btc if internet was turned off (any logic here?) and etc.
I think we need some additional moderators in this section to clear 99% of threads.

I think we need some additional moderators in this section to clear 99% of threads.
Although I agree (to an extent), what we need is more users that actually put efforts into reporting those (threads and spam/useless posts). Even if we had more "Moderators" for that section, there will always be some or rather a lot of unnoticed spam/useless posts (due to the amount of traffic on that section).

I barely read that section, because of the useless spam. It would be very nice to "claim it back" from the spammers. Let them have the altcoin-section (I consider that section lost), but stay away from the Bitcoin discussion.

There are now literally threads with the same title:
Can the government stop bitcoin?
Can The Government Stop Bitcoin?

The last one is just a linkdump, and yet, it has 6 pages already. I've just reported it, let's see if it disappears.
Update: both threads are gone.

Everyone must be responsible for their post and make sure to not post again if there's already same thread on other section. I think I've read a thread about merit system numerous times which is really bothersome.

Such kind of topics had place to be on Bitcoin discussion board from the most beginning and yes, it may seem silly, but I do not see anything bad in that. When I was a beginner I was practising my skills of newborn bitcointalk commentator exactly on such topics, I suppose other newbies do the same, cause of it is really needed time to understand what and how in Crypto world before to become a good commentator and reach some nice rank here. So, leave them on peace Cheesy

Not only that section mostly have spammer, and also Bitcoin discussion, Tradings discussion and Altcoin discussion these are all section having more spam or shit post. But not all are spam there are some post it's look like stupidity. I think OP is right they need more moderator's on that section and be strict to delete not relevant post to the main post thread. However, still the decision is on the admins and we are highly respected of what they have implemented rules for the sake of our beloved forum.

Do you want to say that you were asking questions like how to tell about bitcoin to grandparent's uncle's mother-in-law (Yes, I said that ironically because there are similar threads)? Or how you treated bitcoin phobia with anti depressants? Cmon man, hope you understand what problem I want to mention in this topic. These guys are creating so unlogical threads to then come and post by their alts (I believe that's their main reason or otherwise they have serious mental problems).

Why not? These are often questions from people, who come new to Bitcoin. Here in forum are not only experienced members and/or signature spammers, but also people, who are interested in all kinds of subjects, also trivial ones. Who are we, to put all together as spam and censor everything, what doesn't seem to be serious enough?
As already mentioned. Take report button in hand, the moderators do a smart work, or use ignore function or avoid the whole section.

OP, tell me about it. I have been reporting all the low quality and spam bait threads I see in the first page as soon as they are bumped for days. But I believe it'ss a lost cause. There are too much spammers.

Check this thread with 16 pages. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2850560.0

"BITCOIN CAN CAUSE DEATH?!"

Quote
I want to share a story about a friend's experience. He is a bitcoin heavy admirer, every day spending time just playing bitcoin. To the extent that he forgot about his health, until one day he suddenly suffered a heart attack and died. According to doctors he was tired and did not pay attention to his health.
And my question is: how to set a good time to stay healthy and keep playing bitcoin.

Thank You.

If everyone actively works on reporting these threads then there's no need for new moderators. Most of the spam that is reported in that section gets removed within a hour or so I'm sure the moderators will appreciate your efforts.

A lot of sections are overrun currently though, and I don't think Bitcoin discussion is the worst one. But, because it's the first one everyone sees when they visits the page a lot of people post threads in there which belong in other sections, this is probably unavoidable and creates a bigger workload on the mods.

Just report the shit threads. People hardly report them so that's why they stay for ages and I'm often appalled at how long they've been there and how many responses they've got without a single report. Most mods don't patrol their boards looking for things to do and I barely go in most boards except Meta these days but when I do in there I usually trash several threads but reporting them would get them cleaned up a whole lot quicker.

OK, if reporting will help you, then I am ready. Prepare for massive reports because 90% of threads is just a threads which has a place in trash, I just thought you had no time.

Wind_FURY
Yes man, you see yourself, it's a shame to create thread with that title.
So I think when you let them to rank to hero/legendary with those shitposts, then ban them. It will be a great lesson when you show them how those years in trying of rank up can be wasted in one second. After that they will avoid to post shit.

My current post has nothing to so with moderators currently but didn't know where to post. Today I saw something that I couldn't imagine ever on this forum. One member, yeah, bitcointalk's member posted silliest thing in trading discussion. Sorry, I forgot to save that moment in online web archives but hope you don't have doubts on me that I post lie.

I just thought you had no time.

Using the "Report to Moderator" links helps with time, as it is much quicker for staff to view and act on that then it is for them to browse and find issues on their own.
