With the latest boost, it doesn't work either. Crashes often and never gets fully in sync.
Most mining software and wallets do not compile on 18.04 because of newer libssl, missing bignum support.
I tried installing older libssl on 18.04 but failed.

I was having the same problem but all I had to do was to compile it on a system running 16.04, now it looks like at least it runs fine on 18.04.
