HOT: “Russian nuclear engineers arrested for using state supercomputers to mine

Two engineers of the Russian Nuclear Center have been caught using one of the facility’s supercomputers to mine Bitcoin.

This sad story took place in the top-secret Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov, western Russia, where the first nuclear boom was produced during the Cold War by Russian scientists.

It should be noted that the Nuclear Center in Sarov cannot be found in any maps. This is one of the top-secret centers, totally separated with the rest of Sarov. Any one who wishes to enter the area must acquire a special permit.

The Russian Federal Nuclear Center is located in an isolated town with about 20,000 officers. The center launched its new supercomputer with the capacity of 1 petaflop (the capacity to process one thousand million million operations per second) in 2011. It is recorded that two engineers of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center used this supercomputer to mine Bitcoin. NEWS: Germany wont’ tax cryptocurencies used to purchases

Bitcoin users will not be taxed using this currency as a means of payment,said by The German Federal Ministry of Finances.

The latest legal guidance document , published on Wednesday (Feb. 28), distinguish Germany from the US where The Internal Revenue Service treats Bitcoin like property for tax purpose, which means that if an American buys a cup of coffee with Bitcoin, it would be considered a property sale and a subject to capital gain tax.

Instead, Germany would consider bitcoin as the equivalent to legal tender for tax purposes when used as a means of payment, according to a new document published recently.

The guidance from The Bundesministerium der Finanzen was based on a European Union Court of Justice ruling on value added taxes.

The court ruling creates a precedent for European Union nation to tax bitcoin while providing exemptions for certain types of transactions.

However, from EU decision, converting bitcoin into a fiat currency or vice versa ia classified as “supply of service”, and therefore any party acting as an intermediary for the exchange will not be taxed.

Payment fee sent to digital wallet providers or other services can also be taxed.

Other aspects of the digital currency ecosystem will not be taxed. Miners receiving block reward will not be taxed, as thier actions are considered to be voluntary.

Similarly, exchange market operators that buy or sell bitcoin under their own name as intermediary will receive tax-exemption. Still, an exchange operating as technical partketplace will not receive any such exemption.

Is Bitcoin on the way out?

According to research firm Blockchain.info, transactions plunged from seven-day average of almost 400,000 in mid-December to about 200,000 this week.
Earlier this year, when bitcoin price fell by more than 60 percent from its recent peak, a lesser noticed bitcoin also plummeted:  the number of daily transactions.

Even when Bitcoin price had a 50 percent return since Feb.5, the number of daily transactions has not recovered. This left investors wondering if the cryptocurrencies is declining in popularity.
Since it peaked in December, the average number of daily exchanges has decreased by half and touched its low in two year last month, even when bitcoin recovered to
$10,000.
Transactions data may be bad news for Bitcoin Bulls, according to Charles Morris - chief investment officer at Newscape Capital Group, London and also a cryptocurrencies investor.
“We had a hype cycle and now it’s getting cold”, Morris said. “It is possible that we are entering a bear market”.

Ethereum and Bitcoin price are expected to see triple-digit gains in 2018

Worrying about the crash of cryptocurrency market recently?

According to the South China Morning Post, participants of this review are quite optimistic about Ethereum’s future due to the general applicability of its blockchain network. Ethereum is still and will be the no.1 choice for any startup beginning to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO).

Ethereum is also expected to face more opposition from EOS, NEO, and others. Ethereum has become a bit of a name in the mainstream cryptocurrency world. Still, Bitcoin continues to be the dominator and investors shouldn’t assume a “flippening” anytime soon.

Companies use blockchain and other so-called digital ledgers to securely record transactions and process other data over the internet -- a service Google could use, for example, to reassure customers that their information is protected when stored on the giant network of computer servers that power its cloud services.

Several people in Google’s infrastructure group have been tinkering with blockchain protocols in recent months, according to a person familiar with the company. Other Google insiders said recently that the cloud business is a natural place for blockchain-related services.

“Like many new technologies, we have individuals in various teams exploring potential uses of blockchain but it’s way too early for us to speculate about any possible uses or plans,” a Google spokesman said.

With the great effort of competitors to work on blockchain-related applications, Google can’t get isolated and get out of the race.

In a conversation with Bloomberg, Zhao Changpeng - Binance CEO – shared a plan of opening an office in Malta. Mr. Zhao also said that Binance would soon launch a cryptocurrency exchange service and is close to reaching an agreement with Malta banks in providing access to deposits and withdrawals.

"We are very confident we can announce a banking partnership there soon”, Zhao said. “Malta is very progressive when it comes to crypto and fintech.”

Binance was founded in Hong Kong in 2017, and then quickly became the world's leading cryptocurrency trading platform.

However, since last year, the China Regulatory and that of United States have tightened their control on cryptocurrency trading, making it more difficult for Binance to find a permanent office.

Binance once had Japan but eventually decided to leave Japan to avoid conflict with the authorities.

Mr. Zhao also revealed that Binance had talked to the Hong Kong Authorities, but things are still uncertain.

It seems that Malta is a good choice for Binance as it has become a home for cryptocurrency investors. Malta government has organized a number of public consultations about cryptocurrency regulation, issuance and trading platform.

Last month, Malta announced their plan in establishing a Digital Creation Agency, which regulates businesses and their operations in cryptocurrency field, as well as create a legal framework for ICOs.

Mr. Zhao had been invited by the Government of Malta to preview a draft bill supporting digit currency business.

Binance's transaction volume per day is currently around $ 1.7 billion, more than its competitors

Binance is also working on a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange platform in the upcoming month. Top ten groups of Binance are now developing such platform. Still, it would take quite a time until it could replace the existing trading platform of Binance, said by Mr. Zhao.

Thailand plans to tax cryptocurrencies


Thailand's government wants to regulate the nascent Crypto market, and tax its investors to prevent the expanding sector from being used for money laundering, tax evasion, and other criminal activities.

This action is taken by Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong after a weekly cabinet meeting on Mar. 27.

With the new law regulating Cryptocurrencies and tokens, investors will have to pay 7% VAT on all transactions made with digit currencies and a 15% on the return profit.

Earlier, the Central Bank of Thailand has banned domestic banks from investing in and trading digit currency, which caused insecurity for local investors.

Korn Chatikavanij - former Finance Minister and president of the Thai Fintech Association (TFA) - shared that he is not surprised by the cautious steps taken by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. "But they have to be cautious not to allow their conservative instincts to result in draconian regulations," Korn told the Nikkei Asian Review.

Companies operating in the field of Cryptocurrency in Thailand are also facing many challenges, and Thai entrepreneurs that tend to have an ICO are more likely to choose Singapore to register their startups.

Six.network, a decentralized financial services infrastructure of a Thai-Korean joint venture, is one example. The company is registered in Singapore and recently announced an ICO in Bangkok to raise $ 44 million on March 27.

Natasha Pungcharoenpong, co-founder of Six.network, said that his company is cooperating with the Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)to avoid any glitches. "The company has already approached the office to constantly clarify the operation to ensure transparency”, he told attendees at the ICO launch event at a Bangkok.

However, everything is still in the plan. In the meantime, Thai investors should be prepared by means before this regulation plan is officially adopted.
