How to Become Signature Master in 12 Hours. I did it, so can you.

Hi Everyone,

I noticed most of you talk about months when it comes to creating forum Signatures.  I was able to create 5 signatures for our project in exactly 12 hours.
Since it takes so much time for some of you to create signatures, I decided to share what I learned about Signatures, Forum's BBCode, and motivate you.  
After 12 hours it will not be perfect but good enough.  If you spent more time to create icons out of BLOCKS it will be perfect.

In order not to spam I will show you our Hero and Full Member Signature only.

Here Is How I Have Learned It In 12 Hours:


1.  I read this post by ROSLINPL : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1727100.0
That post is all you need to start.  I will add to his post and show you my tricks of doing it.



2.  Learn the basic building blocks (characters). To be exact: Unicode Characters
FULL BLOCK: █
UPPER HALF BLOCK: ▀
LOWER HALF BLOCK: ▄
LEFT HALF BLOCK: ▌
RIGHT HALF BLOCK: ▐
LIGHT SHADE: ░:
MEDIUM SHADE:▒

3.  Learn the advanced buildings blocks (characters).  This is the part that everyone missed.  There are more characters you can use besides the basic blocks.
You can find them on Wikipedia.  Just make sure to test your code in different browsers/platforms in order to see if they form correctly:

Once you know where to find your characters and play with them, you will become a BBCODE ♚




4.  Draw your desired image on gird paper.  From the grid paper you will be able to see if it will work out in BBCode forum or not.

You can change the LINE WIDTH to 10 there and test your image.






5.  User online character counter in order to make the 4000 limit:

10.  Hacks and Rules
1.  BBCode is forgiving sometimes.  Play with closing tags if you are over 4000 character limit. Remove closing tags and see what happens.  This works with SIZE and COLOR tags.
2.  Instead of adding white color, use space.
3.  Nest colors.  Use 1 outer color like in the Building example and then apply individual color.  Calculate which technique gives you less code at the end.
4.  Always test with SIZE pt2.  That way there will be no surprises.  
5.  Never use generators.
6.  Use Photoshop for color offsets if you need to do something creative.

But i'm curious did all the signature on this forum is designated by their manager/project itself, or they pay someone to do the works?

Yes, that was my initial reaction at first, but once I got over it, it went fast.  When you look at it, it looks and feels complicated, but once you break it down into parts it's easy.

I will soon do a signature "together" here step by step and everyone will be able to reuse it for their own.


^ To answer your question about who creates signatures.  They are mostly paid for with some high prices these days.

Actually this is an additional knowledge for us and maybe we can apply this skill for future use, who knows? But it's your own opinion so I respect it if you don't care too much about this stuff .

I don't think so, as far as I know not all campaign managers don't know how to create a signature for their clients. Probably a particular ICO already have a signature before passing it into the campaign manager or they buy from people who provides this kind of service (like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2363907.0), I'm not so sure anyway.


@OP ~ I really want to learn this so thanks for a short and yet informative tutorial, I'll definitely use this as my reference to my study. i hope next time you will include tutorials abaout creating moving logos on the signature or changing of colors when pointed by the cursor or a signature that will direct to the website if clicked. I forgot to mention one trick I invented that I have not seen in signatures:

Funky Nested Glow Highlights. 
It turns out you can do half highlights, nested highlights in BBCode.  The highlight and the text inside of it have a property tag called: SIZE
You can set the size of the highlight and the text separate.  Once you set different sizes, you will get all kinds of highlight options.

Here is an example of a simple Highlight Glow:

Easy, but now look what happens to the word Russia if we break it letter by letter and apply separate highlight to each letter:

Great! ROSLINPL's thread is amazing of course, thanks him for that, he gave a great tutorial to all signature code makers but despite the fact that your thread is very short compared to his one and isn't as detailed, I think it gives a good motivation to people who failed on his thread.

That is far from being a master.You need to see Jayce's design to get an idea what a master looks like. I'm not saying you did bad in those 12 hours but perfection of course comes with practice.I know Jayce uses some advanced patterns from Photoshop and stuff so might as well want to get yourself acquainted with that.

He is far from being a master but we must also agree that he is maybe better than 95% of the forum members here now given that only a few select members have knowledge on BBcodes. If you really put your time and dedication with designing signatures we might be a master like Jayce someday and VenusianLion providing a brief introduction to Signature Designs together with what roslinpl's guide to BBcodes I think it can serve as a guide for a lot of members. Who knows they can even make this their talent for freelance work in Bitcointalk in the future.

I knew about BBCode lesson series for a long time, but I am too lazy to learn because I think it is too complicated to learn from almost zero.
From your shared experiences, I have more motivations to learn BBCode lesson series, and might start designing my own signature codes some day.

Here is a template I had for Icons.  You can use it as a start to your BLOCK building.  Once you create one letter, you can do the whole alphabet and more

Few Rules:  
1.  Your code in Notepad, Code Brackets, Preview may look different.  That's why the CODE looks weird.  Ignore it, just copy the code, put in preview and it will work.
2.  Make sure to save your work in UNICODE or you may lose your stuff.
3.  Each BLOCK is 2 "spaces".

Nice tutorial. You spend only 12 hours while learning and you already can make not bad signatures. Now you can start your own signature designing service. I would be interested to learn how to make signatures, but I feel it's just not for me. And I think that you made one mistake in one of your signatures. You wrote "soccer", but it should be "football". Ok, it's not mistake, but I just hate when americans are calling football soccer
