mining with untrusted clients but no revenue share for a charity

I have some security related questions to mining. The goal is as a fund raiser for a charity so no coins will be shared with those that mine. In this aspect it would work as a personal pool, however there is the fact that I would not necessarily trust everyone who can/will connect to the server side of things.

I know that I can do bitcoin -server as with a local pool, however I do not know if anything is exposed that could lead to coin theft or other data being accessed that is not what would show up in blockexplorer. Is this a safe or even recommended way to do things with a published IP:port and allowing anyone with internet access to connect?

What software options are available for this type of mining?

Ideal preference is to work with the widest amount of mining tools. The server itself will be linux.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.
