Creating a Bitcoin client that fully implements the network protocol is extremely difficult. Bitcoin Core and some of its derivatives are the only known safe implementations of full nodes. Some other projects attempt to compete, but it is not recommended to use such software for anything serious. (Lightweight clients like Electrum and Bither are OK.)

Post release  Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Stockholm 2017

On September 7, the capital of Sweden hosted Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Stockholm for the first time. The event brought together owners of businesses related with cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based solutions. It was attended by more than 350 participants and 19 speakers from 13 countries.

The conference took place at the Elite Hotel Marina Tower, the nineteenth century majestic building near the city center. The hotel is known not only by its wonderful architecture and interiors but also by a high-end service.

Key presentations

The event allowed to discuss the prospects and technical details of blockchain integration in businesses, legislative regulation of cryptocurrencies in Sweden and the world as well as the opportunities for investing in cryptocurrency crowdsales, mining and cybersecurity.

The keynote speaker of the conference – Mathias Sundin, Sweden Member of Parliament – said that the blockchain would help to prevent global financial crises. He revealed his viewpoint of society changes to be caused by bitcoin: authorities would no longer belong to state institutions but would shift to citizens.

Frank Schuil, the CEO at Safello Stockholm cryptocurrency exchange, discussed the bitcoin opportunities and changes of society’s attitude to cryptocurrencies.

Sofie Blakstad, the founder of Hiveonline, presented her vision of cryptocurrency future: “Within nearest 5-10 years, digital currencies will revolutionize financial markets.” The speaker talked about the risks and advantages of digital currencies issued by central banks for developing countries.

Several presentations were dedicated to the popular ICO topic: Daniel Zakrisson, Natalia Tokar, Julian Hosp and Oleg Kudrenko told the audience how to choose a project for investing as well as revealed existing risks and ways to avoid them. They discussed in detail the ICO launch and legislative regulation of crowdsales.

Martin Mischke, the CEO at Brickblock, explained how the blockchain would make a real property purchase process faster and allow to reduce prices due to abandoning intermediaries’ services.

Robert Wiecko and Fernando Gutierrez presented the Dash project: an open payment system based on the blockchain with anonymized transactions.

Vladislav Martynov, a co-founder of BlockGeeksLab, talked about demands of modern economy in such cryptocurrency assets as stable coin and its connection to gold.

The event also included the exhibition of blockchain projects. Seventeen companies from various countries presented their recent solutions.

The conference was held by Smile-Expo, an organizer of the major international series of Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference events, taking place annually in Russia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Malta and other countries. More information about company’s projects can be found on the website.

How Do Elections Work on Blockchain?
https://www.smileexpo.eu/public/upload/news/how_do_elections_work_on_blockchain_15294012074884_image.jpg
Elections are a complicated process which may not always be completely transparent. What happens if decentralized technologies are implemented into such part of the government system as voting? Let’s discover how DLT and elections work together.
                                                                                How does it work?
Using decentralized technology, votes can be casted as transactions, and blockchain keeps track of the tallies of the votes. It gives everyone a possibility to count votes, so there are no confusions with the final count. It is also easy to check votes and make sure nothing was changed, taken out, or added. Voters can follow their own votes as well to see that they were securely put into the online ballot box.
It is possible to switch votes before the election closes. To complete the process, users just need their ID.
                                                                                 Main advantages
With the Blockchain, information is stored in a decentralized way, meaning that the database is no longer controlled by the single organization. It makes elections transparent and fair as no falsifications can be involved. Decentralization of the system also makes data highly secured and protected against hackers’ attacks.
Moreover, if the elections become more trustworthy and secure, the voter turnout is likely to increase. More participating voters are to be expected also because online voting is very convenient and does not require a lot of time. People can also vote easily with any device from anywhere in the world.
Online Blockchain voting also reduces the cost of the process. There is no need in printing the ballots or spending money on place organization and finding poll watchers ant more.
                                                                                 Possible integration problems
The implementation of the decentralized technology into the government process can meet certain difficulties. It is possible that those who want to maintain status quo will resist such an integration. The resistance may also come from the countries with high level of corruption as blockchain seeks to eliminate this kind of phenomenon.
                                                                                 Examples
According to Nasdaq, DLT is already implemented into the shareholder voting process in Estonia. Iceland and Denmark are successfully using the technology in their elections as well.
                                                                                  Sierra Leone
This year, it has also become known that Sierra Leone had implemented the decentralized technology in its presidential elections which had been completely powered by it. However, after the spread of the rumours, government officials had denied the fact and clarified that the technology had only been used to a limited extent.
Sierra Leone’s national electoral commission (NEC) stated that blockchain had not been used to tally the votes. DLT was utilized as an additional process to show how it is possible to conduct elections with it.
Platforms for decentralized elections
Also, there is a growing number of blockchain-based platform created for elections. For example, one of the most popular ones is FollowMyVote. The network offers a solution which seeks to make voting in the US transparent and secure.
Another platform which uses DLT for elections process is Polys. It aims at helping governments to make elections more efficient.
As for possible future uses, Joe Kiniry, the CEO of Free and Fair, says, “We are going to see the deployment in America of a blockchain-based voting system, in some jurisdiction or another.”
Is it worth it in the end?
Blockchain implementation into the voting process has a lot of advantages as DLT can make the elections fair and transparent. With the technology, the process easily wins trust of the country’s citizens and provides them an opportunity to control elections themselves. This is what makes the democracy real.
Blockchain technology and its other possible integrations will be discussed by crypto experts at the Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Stockholm   https://bit.ly/2zhVMyA   Don’t miss a chance to meet leading specialists in the sphere and learn more about the technology at the event!

How blockchain and tokenization will reshape agricultural segment?
https://www.smileexpo.eu/public/upload/news/how_blockchain_and_tokenization_will_reshape_agricultural_se_15311441395289_image.jpg
It is deeply engraved in our mind that blockchain refers to financial technologies, currency, and governmental services. However, experts ensure that agriculture exposes a great potential for smart contracts and distributed registers. So, what does tokenization of agricultural segment hold? Read our review to find out!

Governmental services for farmers
Developing countries suffer the problem of corruption, which also touches upon the agricultural segment. Farmers can be made to give bribes in order to buy or rent land, receive a subsidy, or grants. According to entrepreneurs, otherwise, payment for taxes, fees, and notary services would cost the earth.
A switch of governmental services to blockchain would decrease service fees and help make all the processes transparent. The technology would also simplify the procedure of subsidy and documents obtaining: just stay home and use your computer or smartphone.

Farmers would particularly benefit from blockchain-based services for land sale and rent: land auctions, cadasters.
Blockchain-powered cadaster has been successfully introduced in Georgia. Many municipal services, including voting and an access to governmental services, based on the DLT are now being tested in Zug (Switzerland).

Transparent supply chains
Consumers want to be informed about the product’s origin, their further transporting, and processing. They tend to pay more for ‘non-GMO’, ‘no nitrates’, and ‘organic food’ marking.
Currently, the quality of animal source and plant-derived foods is confirmed by a certificate. Therefore, to trade meat, farmers firstly should pay for the expert examination and certification, then, send documents to the point of retailing sale.

                                                    Blockchain and cryptocurrencies in Sweden
https://www.smileexpo.eu/public/upload/news/tn_blockchain_and_cryptocurrencies_in_sweden_15332161819606_image.jpg
The Swedish economy is well-developed and export-oriented. In the twentieth century, a poor agricultural country turned into one of Europe’s most developed industrial states in several dozens of years. It was rich natural resources that affected the economic growth. They still play an important role in export, but the authorities of Sweden are now equally focusing on knowledge-intensive industries based on information technologies.

                                                           Blockchain projects in Sweden
Sweden was one of the first in the world to launch a project on developing the national land cadaster on blockchain: it happened in 2016 and was highlighted by such leading globally renowned mass media as The Wall Street Journal, Nasdaq, and Fortune. For this purpose, Lantmäteriet (a cadastral body of Sweden) united together efforts with the ChromaWay blockchain startup, Telia telecommunication company, and Kairos Future consulting firm. Afterwards, they were joined by SBAB Bank, Landshypotek Bank, Svensk Fastighetsförmedling real estate agency, and Evry IT company.
https://www.smileexpo.ru/public/userfiles/news/%D0%93%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%B9%D0%BA%D0%BE/Litvin/680px-%D0%A3%D0%BC%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B5_%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BD%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D1%8B_%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BA%D1%87%D0%B5%D0%B9%D0%BD.png
The development started immediately, but the third blockchain project test phase completed only recently, in June 2018. The companies made a presentation showing the way of customers’ checking of digital signatures approved by the government and the way of final sending of legal contracts.

The seeming slowness means the general attitude of the authorities and businesses to blockchain: both do not aim to integrate the technological novelty as soon as possible, but they rather prefer to explore completely the efficiency of the idea and eventually create a 100% reliable off-the-shelf product.

Blockchain has found its application in the Swedish business sector. Dozens of blockchain companies engaged in various areas were established across the country. Founded in 2014, ChromaWay has established its own blockchain platform to develop various software solutions, from databases to investment platforms. Safello offers a platform for cryptocurrency processing and purchasing, providing the Nasdaq level protection. Quickbit allows citizens to buy cryptocurrencies using bank cards. Nordbloc has integrated blockchain-based KYC solutions. Superblocks is developing smart contracts for its customers. Enigio Time and Nikka System focus on the IT security of blockchain solutions.

                                                                   Big Fish on board
The emergence of new blockchain solutions as a part of the Swedish IT market will require a huge computation power. Therefore, the country cannot do without data centers. One of them will be established in Stockholm, according to Amazon. The company is going to adjust it to Amazon Web Services.
https://www.smileexpo.ru/public/userfiles/news/%D0%93%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%B9%D0%BA%D0%BE/Litvin/tho-dao-bitcoin-bi-anh-huong-nao-khi-tien-dien-tu-bien-dong-2.jpg
Another IT giant, Google, has also become interested in Sweden’s cheap electricity and favorable investment climate. The company acquired 109 hectares of land in Horndal, Avesta Municipality. Google’s official representatives say that the company is going to place their data centers there.

Two giant data centers from leading IT companies will cement the country’s place as a leader in the European IT infrastructure and cloud technologies.

About cryptocurrencies and not only
Despite the fact that the authorities have not enshrined the cryptocurrency status at the statutory level, Sweden provides a beneficial jurisdiction for crypto business operations. The country’s Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen) has actually legalized digital assets by publicly announcing the recognition of Bitcoin as a payment method.

Meanwhile, the Finansinspektionen explains that crypto companies interacting with fiat currencies (especially currency exchange offices and exchanges) are obliged to get licenses and permissions, as well as comply with all the rules and regulations of AML, CTF, and KYC.

Such an attitude of the Swedish authorities has mainly destined the country’s leading position in terms of cryptocurrency distribution in Europe. In 2014, long before the cryptocurrency boom, a Swedish citizen Mathias Sundin became the first politician to raise funds for his election campaign in cryptocurrency, while Sweden-based BTCX Exchange started operating in January 2012.

Wall Street has got nothing on Sweden
Besides, cryptocurrency derivatives appeared in Sweden way before Bitcoin entered the Wall Street. In 2015, inhabitants of Sweden could buy an asset called Bitcoin Tracker One backed by Bitcoin. This asset passed the inspection of the Finansinspektionen and was traded at NASDAQ/OMX in Stockholm. Thus, the Scandinavian country was the first in the world to invest in Bitcoin derivatives. It was performed via the bank or online broker. Asset holders had the right to exchange it for 1 BTC at the rate of 1:1.

                                                                                                 Is E-Krona scam?
In 2016, the Swedish authorities officially announced the development of national cryptocurrency called E-krona. Such a step was encouraged by the fact that locals conducted 85% of all transactions using cashless transfers. However, the Swedes were unenthusiastic regarding this initiative. According to the survey made by Sifo Research Center, only 10% of citizens approved the launch of crypto Krona.
https://www.smileexpo.ru/public/userfiles/news/%D0%93%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%B9%D0%BA%D0%BE/Litvin/digital-valuta-800x600.jpg
However, the idea of developing national cryptocurrency was the factor resulting in the hype. The international crypto community was extremely worried of such an event, which was a great opportunity for swindlers.

In early 2018, one launched a previously unknown project called Kryptonex, and with it the Coinvest news website that copied the interface of the well-known cryptocurrency portal – CoinDesk. The fake website published the “news” about Kryptonex, along with the Swedish authorities, launching national cryptocurrency. That false report was parroted by many specialized mass media and distributed all over the world.

Nevertheless, the fact that Kryptonex has not issued crypto Krona does not mean the Government of Sweden refusing the idea of developing national cryptocurrency. The project is under development: it involves the Central Bank of Sweden as well as ChromaWay and Sofitto. No one knows when their plans will come true.

                                                                                                       Mining: iron or cryptocurrency?
If upon hearing about mining in Sweden, you immediately think of famous local iron ore mines, that’s fine. However, we are talking now about mining of cryptocurrencies rather than iron.

To tell that the power industry is well developed in the country means to say nothing. Sweden has three nuclear facilities (all together ten reactors) and about 1900 hydropower plants. Moreover, the authorities encourage entrepreneurs to use wind and solar power plants: taxes are reduced by 98% for such electricity manufacturers. Certain Swedish regions have completely shifted to renewable power sources.
https://www.smileexpo.ru/public/userfiles/news/%D0%93%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%B9%D0%BA%D0%BE/Litvin/1-2.jpg
Therefore, the country offers one of the lowest electricity rates in Europe: 6.5 eurocents per 1 kWh in Sweden against 11 eurocents per 1 kWh in average across Europe.

Economy power and north climate provide beneficial conditions for cryptocurrency mining. World’s largest brands, such as Bitmain, are considering a possibility to place their data centers in Sweden. By the way, Canada’s HIVE has already established a major farm in Boden in order to mine Ethereum.

ICO: to be or not to be?
Similar to the cryptocurrency issue, the Swedish authorities have not approved any legal standards to regulate token sales. However, the Finansinspektionen has published a statement, warning investors of danger related to ICO investments. According to the regulator, this sector has at least five challenges:

• The absence of rights. A token holder won’t be able to lodge a claim against the emitter if the latter fails to fulfill their obligations.

• The absence of fair valuation of assets. The regulator believes that token prices cannot show the fair market value of assets.

• One does not guarantee an access to the secondary market. It is noted that the asset can fail to enter the crypto exchange and to draw somebody’s interest.

• The absence of information. The regulator warns that there are no requirements for ICO projects, obliging them to disclose their total information.

• Fraud risk. The Finansinspektionen reports that ICO authors can aim to raise as much money as possible instead of developing the project.

At the same time, despite all the complaints of financial regulator against ICOs, token sales are not prohibited within Sweden. Therefore, any project has an opportunity to raise funds for its growth by launching digital tokens.

What is the result?
Instead of integrating blockchain anywhere, both businesses and authorities examine pros and cons of technologies, check their efficiency, and only then apply new solutions.

It is the most advantageous country for mining, taking into account cheap electricity. Besides, the early adoption and distribution of cryptocurrencies have affected the public awareness concerning cryptocurrency payments.

Sweden does not create any barriers to ICOs: any company can launch its token sale without being afraid of harassment by government agencies.

All these facts mean the only thing: Sweden’s careful and systematic approach to technological novelties has made it a leader in the European IT industry.

So, what will the country face in future? What novelties will the Swedish blockchain community use in the coming years? How will the country’s authorities protect crypto community interests? You can receive answers to these questions first hand only at specialized events dedicated to blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and ICOs. One of them, Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Stockholm  https://bit.ly/2vqS01z  will take place on September 11 in the capital of Sweden.
