Steps leading to error:
Open wallet -> wallet begins sync
wallet seems to hang on "Current number of blocks" 270662 -> Number continues to rise for "Estimated Total Blocks"
Restart Wallet: same behavior as above, message appears in dialog

"Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct! You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade"

I despise an error message which simply guesses on my behalf  Wink

Wallet is encrypted and backed up.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

If the computer time is set correctly, then you just need to let the blockchain download. It is a message telling you that you don't have the complete transaction record downloaded yet, and "Displayed transactions may not be correct..."

If the blockchain download will not resume after waiting a while, and you have many connections to the Bitcoin network, it may be an indication that you have firewall software or something else interfering with the network, or finally, that the blockchain file is corrupted.

the %appdata%\Bitcoin\debug.log (on Window) has a verbose record of all network activity. You can restart Bitcoin, wait for it to make connections and (fail) downloading the blockchain, then view the end of the file after the big restart space to see errors that are occurring related to blockchain download.

I've let it continue for two days, I've since noted that the log file is active with up to the last minute entries. I've lost my fearfulness, but I wish it would finish Wink

Save your   wallet.dat   file.... NO MATTER what you do.  Search %appdata%\Bitcoin\  to  find it.

Solved: I removed all files except wallet.dat from %appdata%Bitcoin\ and started Bitcoin-QT.
After downloading the data (3 days), all coins are safe.
