Can someone provide a snapshot of the actual blockchain itself?  I'd like to update CryptoChainer, and the torrent won't download for me.  The new wallet wouldn't load the existing blockchain, which seemed inflated in size anyhow.

double check your BT Sync.

You might get it. Just patience. Maybe if Bitcoin does something wild like double in value next week, some yahoos will dump chasing the move. Crypto to is volitile; you never know. It can be a good thing though. Eventually if they make a gain they will bring it back into MINT. I like to say when people want to know what I do as a hobby, I will just tell them I trade in the international currency markets and to profit off the volatility...it sounds profesdional, and even though unconventional it is still essentially true. Then if they really want to know more I can introduce crypto and Mintcoin. Most are just intrigued, but don't even care. I talk about the advantages MINT has over BTC why it is my main long. Yeah its been up about 250% on average per year versus USD since it began. Mostly they just think it's all as good as a craps shoot though and don't take it seriously. Maybe, but they are seeking security vs opportunity, IMO. Security in the sense of something that is totally the safe mainstream easy way. My used to be millionaire grandfather once told me, don't go for security, go for opportunity.  I see opportunity with MINT. You do what everyone does you get the results everyone gets. That sort of thing. Also steady plodding brings prosperity, a little here a little there, pretty soon. Begins to add up to a lot.

Sick of mining?  Start minting!  5% per year!  Mintcoin "MINT"

lol k now I'm feeling Like I jinxed it  Roll Eyes

I've always put a bit of my profits into MINT. I wish I would have taken trading more seriously when I first found crypto land but I got caught up in chasing new coins, maybe was addicted to the chance one would be the "one" lol so profit was few and far between or long waits... thankfully I learned "never go in deeper than you're willing to lose" fairly quickly with newb coins and wasn't playing with much $ so the losses could have been much worse. I guess it was a good learning experience and probably makes me more aware now that I'm taking trading much more seriously and see it's potential, Ha I wish I could say I do it for a living but I'm not there yet and even then I like my delivery job so I'd prob keep it till I figured out a good plan... plus I get to tell people about bitcoin   Grin  still haven't had anybody ask to pay in BTC yet tho  Angry  lol it'll happen.

I still own the original MINT I mined just have traded it many times to get more, mint the majority even when trading is good all of them when the markets flat and add more when I can. never chase the price and patience is deff a must  Wink  if it looks like it's going to flatten out at 17-18 I'll gladly move my buy up.

Freshly synced MintCoin blockchain snapshot is available on CryptoChainer.com.  It still two almost two days to get in sync, even with the bootstrap, so this one will definitely save you some serious time!

While I can appreciate the effort in this, the ONLY supported bootstrapping method is using the bootstrap.dat file provided periously (and below).

Full datadir "snapshots" sound like a great thing on the surface, but they can introduce a myriad of issues (like the one we recently saw with a snapshot providing junk data that conflicted with a valid checkpoint). Snapshots like this force the client to trust any/all data contained within as valid data...and when a conflict happens, the client just shits a brick and dies.

While the chances of such a "full-stop" failure happening are limited, it is a known point-of-failure. I would urge anyone trying to get their MINT wallet up and running from scratch to either sync from the network or use the proper bootstrap.dat. Yes, it will take some time. The MINT blockchain is large and has been running for quite a while now, don't try to "cheat" the process of getting in sync unless you are willing to accept the fact that you may need to end up syncing from scratch or using the bootstrap.dat anyways in the future.

IMO:
That is the reason I killed my bootstrap.dat for Mint as soon as you came out with the Official mint bootstrap, realizing you were going to say something along those lines.
Not that what you are saying is accurate, but I knew you would say it and tell everyone to only download your custom mint bootstrap.dat .

Fact the previous wallet version worked fine with the blockchain snapshots , the problems never started until your last update.
So the error happen because of one of the changes you guys made to the wallet code not the blockchain itself.

It's funny how you call saving days or weeks of wasted time cheating the processes. (That kills me)  Cheesy

But you guys are running the Dev show at mint now, so your call.

It will be interesting to see if you keep your bootstrap.dat updated monthly or stop with the current one.

One less coin for me to keep updated, just remember that was your choice, when your users start complaining in mass about the ridiculous time delays, hey you wanted it this way.

Good Luck.

It's important to consider that Fuzzbawls has played a major role in updating the code base in preparation for the 2.1 wallet as a community volunteer.  Yes, making changes to the data structure could have introduced new bugs.  An official bootstrap was released to fix these issues which allowed a continued push forward.  Who better to release a bootstrap then the dev that understands the current code base as well as it's transition and progression moving forward?  As far as future bootstrap updates go, fuzzbawls and the team have plenty of work on their plates.  Instead of just being critical of current decision making, maybe you'd like to contribute with the community to help the coin grow stronger?

I like that you regularly see issues and you aren't afraid to address them.  Your critical eye will help the community reconsider potential problems.  However, I think you should consider how you address perceived flaws.  If your a community member that wants to see a healthy mintcoin then join #MintcoinOfficial on irc and let's work together to keep mint ultra fresh.  Smiley

lets put a little more detail behind what users can expect:

START WITH WALLET CLOSED

1. drop bootstrap.dat in datadir directory
2. launch mintcoin
3. you will have a loading screen saying "importing bootstrap"
4. import time varies between computers but a modern computer will take about a day and half to import
5. bootstrap will auto rename once completed
6. if bootstrap is renamed and wallet doesn't load, you can force quit and relaunch (we are aware of certain instances where it will hang, and it will be addressed in next release)

Just out of curiousity what is the bootstrap renamed to?

The fact I used my time to create a Free Bootstrap.dat , which would have been updated every month was my way of helping.
Also as far as my being critical, I reported some info to Fuzzbawls which I don't believe any action has been taken on, plus my remarks on how easy it would be to fix the Mint's massive orphan issue, Just Politely ignored.

Hi Fuzzbawls,

FYI:
The latest version is reporting a hacktool from an AV call K7 on Virustotals.com ,

Figured it is just a false positive , but thought you should know before anyone else sees it.

Later,
Kiklo

Like I said Good Luck.

Yep,
Probably a false positive, but it was not being reported in the Mint's previous version.
Either a code change or contacting K7 to remove the message would have been a good idea.

I figured it out I see in the datadir directory you can actually see the progress of the download of bootstrap dat file to blk0001 which is actually the created file and it is counting up.  Almost there. Thanks for you help....

For anyone unaware...

Bter is not processing mint withdrawals and has no ETA for a fix.  However, trading and deposits remain open.  Use caution.   Undecided

[EDIT] Bter withdrawal issues appear to be fixed.

Hi, it is not the mintcoin wallet having problems. But the bter exchange.
Mint wallet functions like it should.

Yeah, bter has had issues in the past. I think in the end they always came through with coin withdrawal and deposit, but you may have to send an email to support and it may take several days to sort out.  They also have high fees IMO, fees add up, like fee for trade, fee for withdrawal, and if you let your coins sit on there too long they convert it into a fractional reserve derivative or something. Lol

Stop Mining.   Start Minting.   Mintcoin  [MINT]
5% annual minting reward. Mintcoins don't wear out like mining gear. They keep on minting!
