There is something I have observed on this forum. Newbies come, register, and think mainly of increasing their post counts. I do think this forum goes beyond just increasing post counts. I see the forum to be a very good source of information about bitcoin and perhaps cryptocurrency as a whole where newbies can learn all they need to know about bitcoin by surfing and reading as many posts and post replies as much as possible to build their knowledge level. As long as, newbies continue to think of post counts only on this forum, they are bond to be more confused about bitcoin and cryptocurrency as a whole. I do understand I'm still young on this forum but per the questions newbies frequently ask on this forum, I think this is the root of it. What do you also think about??

You get merit points when someone likes your post enough to give you some. And for every 2 merit points you receive, you can send 1 merit point to someone else!

The only reason why are they doing this is because they are account farmers, they post random stuff, get a higher post count, activity and enroll into signature campaigns or sell the accounts afterwards. The merit system is reducing this however because these users can no longer upgrade, so we're in a good path.

Your worries are somewhat, by the way now. Merit system is holding members not to upgrade that easy anymore. Before now, upgrading was seen as the most easiest thing to do on the forum rather than posting because it was then automatic but not anymore.

I gave you a merit because I think you are trying to contribute to the forum, and thank you for that. I see that you post quite a bit on the discussion board. If you get a chance, please can you post on the beginners board, we are trying to clean that up a bit, and turn it into a useful resource for new members.

Don't be bothered by the newbies keep coming on the forum. Merit nowadays are too hard to earn even by the old members, so do they. Imagine that there are many newbies yet all of them can't even join any good signature campaigns. Yet if you saw an abusive newbie who spams and the post count were too far from the activity and the date registered were too early, report them and let the mods do the cleaning.

Merit system is not helping the spam in the forum to get controlled. It is preventing shitposting noobs from ranking up by its bottleneck effect but they dont care because those who come here to shill bump ICO ANNs dont care about their ranks. They simply want to see their thread bumped every millisecond and thus they create a number of accounts to do so.

Of course they will get banned but they will return soon with more accounts.

If you get a chance, please can you post on the beginners board, we are trying to clean that up a bit, and turn it into a useful resource for new members.
B&H was like this when I first came to the forum and is still like this. I like your optimism but optimism with unrealistic goals is useless.

I think this is a very serious issue that is bothering almost everyone on this forum. I think the earlier this is controlled, the earlier the forum becomes easy place to learn.

Why do you bother about peoples(newbies) post counts? If newbies are not spamming or breaking any of the forum's rule, their post count to activities ratio should not be of anyone's concern.
I believe this forum is not only meant for learning but also for interaction otherwise there wouldn't have been any need to register as a member.

This is very serious issue only for Bounty Hunters and Spam Masters not for members who actually knows the value of Bitcointalk

"the earlier the forum becomes easy place to learn spam, gets rank up and earning money without contribute to the forum"

I don't agree with the OP regarding the post count thing, if we remove the merit requirements for ranking up will ultimately clogged the forum by shitposters with their bots and bounty reports. So they pumps the posts and rank up quickly to earn money. Earning money through bitcointalk is not the problem, but when it becomes the sole purpose without contribution or sharing anything to the forum is the problem.

I would like to share my thoughts regarding the post count thing. If someone think number of posts proportional to the learning potential, believe me it's not. If anyone really wants to learn, the best think I can say is Read Before Ask. I have an another suggestion, if we could make an amendment to the activity thing by introducing new rule that posts which are posting on the ANN threads doesn't count as activity or few number(mods can decide) of posts taken as one activity, there will be decrease of new alt creation which creates only for Bounties and ultimately less spam in the forum. So what you guys are thinking?

I strongly agree witth your opinion, it should not be all about post count and activity count, we should go beyond that and learn from the forum.

Exactly, The main goal of a new account shouldn't be making 1st thread in lending section and posting more than 50 posts/day just for the sake of post padding.

It's a good thing for newbies who are actually here for the content and bad for account farmers as they didn't see merit system coming before.

I am fully agreed with you that they only increase their post count for they are account farmers and accepting for signature campaign. I think these account farmers come to this forum only for bounty campaign.  But it is good that there is no way to upgrade their account without merit.

It's hard on the newbies, they're less knowledgeable, and they need merit to rank up.

It's hard to post quality posts, so who's going to give them merit???

But some need a certain amount of posts to join campaigns.

Meh, merit isn't limited to posts that are packed with information and expertise.

Good questions, genuine attempts at getting to know the community, and anything to break the monotone of cliche responses are all fair game for merit.

And besides, campaigns don't rule the world. It may sound hypocritical for me to be saying that wearing a signature, but I think I speak for a lot of the senior members when I say that I'd still be around without it.

But some need a certain amount of posts (Merit and Activity) to join campaigns.

And this is where you lost anyone who had hung in there to read the whole post.

Don't come here to join campaigns and make money. Yes I wear a SIG, before you go there. I didn't start that way though, I was a member nearly full I think when I discovered the campaigns and figured why not if I'm already that active on the forum.

Quality posts aren't hard there are an abundance of guides out there for ways to improve, but it usually boils down to this. Don't post in a mega thread, AD something of value, or even ask a decent question and engage in a conversation on the topic.

Edit: FTFY, most sig campaign seekers have no issue spamming enough posts

Earliar post count was effective to earn money from signature campaign as member rank was dependent on post activity only.. But now it is invalid as post count will not make any profit after 30 activity if cant achieve merit.

In my own observation, some of the newbie accounts are an alt account. They focus on leveling up the account rather than to give valuable answer or suggestions to other users.

There are currently 388,525 accounts that have logged in the last 90 days - and a good percentage of those are newbies..

"Hard on"  Grin Grin
yes it is "tough" for a person who is new to get ranked up. But ranking up is not your main concern here. The main concern of newbies should be learning how bitcoin works and about the forum. Get to know diffirent sections of teh forum and not just linger in the "Bounties" section for whoring every single new project that comes up.

If it is hard for you then you are free to leave the forum.
