What internet with Mining Rig?

Hi All,

I was curious to know what sort of network connectivity and equipment is used by members here for their mining rigs. Since, for the most part our mining rigs remain idle and need network connectivity for the sole purpose of Mining so the investment should be as small as possible.

Please share your details here in this thread.

Also, I would like to include one question in this topic. I have an ADSL Broadband connection from my ISP. They provide me with a router device through which I connect to the Internet. There is no option to connect more than one machine to this router. It only provides a single ethernet interface port.

Is there a way for me to split this Net connection between 2 machines. One being the mining rig and the other my regular notebook?

Would it be possible to mine with 2 different worker ids from the same IP Address from 2 different machines? Since, if I manage to connect 2 different machines to my router, I would essentially be using only one Public IP Address.

Yes, you simply need a router to split the internet.  Bitcoin mining uses a tiny bit of network traffic so anything broadband should work just fine.

You most likely have a modem/router combo, so you might be able to get away with just a switch.

I ran ~16 machine clusters per 1 $10 dollar router just fine.

Mining clients use very small amounts of bandwidth, about 20mb per day per machine.

wired means running a cat5 to each miner but is sinple to setup if you have some switches they're dirt cheap hell i have a 10mbps 24 port switch if you're interestd. wireless get a good router or you're going to burn it out (think of mining as lots and lots of small transfers) and you could pick up interference from other sources. regular old dsl should be more than enough for a small mining operation (dialup is a bad bad idea and shouldnt exist anymore)

So, I can connect multiple machines to a switch and have them mine in parallel. Even though, I have only one public IP, there wouldn't be any problem?

Could you please share the names of switches/routers that you'd recommend. I don't plan to connect more than 4 machines to this device but if the price difference is not that much, then I am ok with it

are you in the US?(if you're not newegg links are silly) but assuming you are this one would be more than sufficent and allow for expansion later on

Your local stores won't carry Roswell (newegg in house brand) but should carry d-link and Cisco both of who make good units.

Thanks, I bought a Belkin Wireless Router which allows me to connect through both wired and wireless interfaces.

Also gives me a chance to do experiments with Wireless Security
