I just noticed this thread, that's quite an interesting experiment.

I'm not invested on this round myself, I might consider joining a future one but the rules might need some modification.

So far it looks like three coins are carrying the burden of most of the rest of the coins.

Don't you think there's a bit of thanks needed to the people who picked them? I know that this experiment is supposed to dissolve the risk among 10 users, but assuming someone's coin tanks all the way to Davy Jone's locker, he's basically going to drag down pretty much everyone else with him.

I'm interested in some slightly leveraged kind of reward after the 10 months, based on each coin's performance, but still maintained by the rest of them. Or a stop-loss kinda system, where if one coin tanks too hard, abandon ship and invest the money into other coins, and the person who invested into that coin gets back "10% - x" because his own investment tanked so badly.

I'm just thinking out loud honestly, might be a few other ways to just reward people whose coins are doing great by giving them more. Of course, not for this round, just food for thought for your future experiments. Good luck to all investors!

That would remove the benefit of diversification and contradict what I believe this experiment is trying to display.

I can't say I would have been interested in those changes.

The .01 I put in is there with a full understanding that it may become 0. Along the way though I get to see a nice snapshot each step of a random sampling of the alt coin market.

I like the fact that we all just dropped in the same amount and without any say in others choices have locked in. Maybe we make some extra maybe not. Either way it was a small investment to make to have a nice sample of the market for 10 months.

Maybe 1 year the 10 months catch up and hit a massive spike in prices on the 10th month lol

I agree. (speaking as the one who luckily picked NANO which is at over 100% 36% ROI). It could have easily been another coin that was up 100%, and we can't exactly control or predict what will happen to prices in 10 months. NANO also happened to be perfectly timed. I believe Loyce bought it at/near the bottom, which was another factor out of my control.

Yeah... It was 0.01 BTC that I threw at "a bet"... I enjoy taking the odd gamble every now and then and this was an easy and relatively cheap way to have some fun with crypto! If my 0.01 ends up being 0.00 then so be it...

I basically sent it to LoyceV with zero expectation of receiving something back. So, if there is anything left on the balance sheet after 10 months, then that's a "win" in my book!

I honestly wish the best for all of you, but its no news that the ((majority)) of altcoins out there are pointless pump and dump projects. If this second run also ends with a -50% for everyone.. I reckon it would be nice to have a mechanism in place to stop it. Not necessarily rewarding the ones who picked the best coins, but at least limiting losses from bad ones.

Otherwise, petition to rename the project to Suicide Squad.

I would like to run a different experiment in the future, but haven't decided yet.
I'm not in favour of punishing or rewarding people for their pick though. If that's what you're looking for, you can just buy the coin of your choice on your own.

If a solid idea comes up, I'd like to make some changes in a future version. I'm reluctant to try timing the market though, as it means you can miss out on a sudden price increase.
If someone would have picked Stellar Lumens for example, the first round would have made a profit instead of a loss. One coin is really all it takes.

I'd like to agree with that analogy, but you can't really make such an easy comparison. The amount of nitpicking and selectiveness from any VC is phenomenal compared to the amount of pitches and applications they receive, I'd argue less than 10% makes even the shortlist especially if the capital is a renowned company/investor.

Diversifying is great of course, especially in this scenario. But even VCs have terms in their contracts where they ultimately dissolve a company, retrieve part of their investment, and minimize losses in case of a complete failure. :p

After another week of red graphs, the 10 coins combined are now in loss in Bitcoin

A 3% loss (in terms of the valuation when compared to BTC) is not the end of the world, in my opinion. Especially considering that BTC dominance has been slowly and steadily rising since we've begun this experiment. I expected our losses to be greater, so for now we're sitting pretty. XRP is performing exactly the way we need for it to remain in the profit even during these bitcoin price-dives. We've got to find some more "uncorrelated" coins for this roller coaster.

I think the idea of incentivizing the "best" coin pick, might be something worth implementing; either through a slightly larger share of the capital pool at the end of the experiment, or something else you think up.
