The French board becomes abandoned since a while because there is no moderation in. Most users left because of this and the ones still here are all asking something done. Most users now are bots or the guys posting ANN topics with google translate, and they use their alt accounts to reply to themselves. You can't even guess what they want to say with their horrible French. An 8 years kid writes better.
It can be too late to add a moderator since it's empty. it's sad, but it's the truth.

I'm surprised that it's such a spam fest in there considering local board posts usually do not count for Sig Campaigns.

It's generally not accepted "apply" to become moderator. There has been elections in the past, especially for the local boards. Doesn't mean theymos will listen to the election results though, and may select someone independently. So gathering posts that should be deleted will likely not work towards their favor. It would just be better to report within that section to show theymos that there needs to be a moderator assigned.

I think a little bit more respect would be a great thing. Calling names was never a method of solving problems. I totally understand it is annoying to have a mess in special boards, in the english section there are also lots of spam posts and it's hard for the few mods to clean this up.

The last theymos checked within the french local board there were only 6 reporters within the last 90 days, and these were very low reports counts too. Whether, that's improved or not I don't know.

Even if you look at the handled reports over the last 90 days, only a few people have more than 10 reports.

Report bad posts even if you perceive that nothing is being done, as report stats are one of the primary methods I use to look at how moderation is going in a section, and to assess potential new moderators. Pay attention to your report accuracy; I see a lot of reports marked bad in the French sections. (If you think that a report is incorrectly marked bad, complain about that to your local moderator or in Meta.)

So if I understand what Welsh and LoyceV are trying to get at, Theymos might not be inclined to give the French section a moderator because the level of reporting there is pretty low.  It's my impression that mods are made out of people who voluntarily report posts over a period of time, and if that section doesn't demonstrate that there's anyone who even has an interest in cleaning it up (despite threads like this) then there's no reason to hire a new mod.

Then again, I think the French board posters have kind of given up reporting posts out of frustration that they don't think the posts are being handled, right?  I seem to recall reading LeGaulois writing that somewhere.  Either way, it sounds like there are some passionate folks there who either could do the job or in any case need a moderator.  I hope you guys get one.

Thanks for your contributions guys. That's interesting and indeed understandable if Theymos judge the need for a new moderator in regard to the number of reports.

First of all, John is pissed to see the french section declining day after day, but he doesn't want to close it! (In case that wasn't clear) There must be about 10 peoples left and a couple of threads alive. A few beginners end up there sometimes... and there are welcomed by an idiot who promotes his shitcoin every single time ! hahaha They never stay long !

The problem has been discussed in the french board many times, it is pretty simple:
1/ Our actual mod isn't doing anything anymore (kcud_dab). I don't know him at all, so he might have been a great mod in the past, but he doesn't do shit now. And I believe he is getting payed for that. Payed to do nothing. May I please become a moderator too ?
Anyway, a new or at least active moderator would help us a bit to clean and maintain things under control in our section. So we wouldn't feel forgotten.

2/ A sub-forum for Altcoins, where the few interesting topics get lost between the amount of ANN and Bounty translations. There aren't so many google translate anymore, after the huge cleaning a couple of weeks ago (See here...) This is really just a bit of organization. Nothing fancy, just something simple:

About the reports, I heard people saying that reports weren't handle. See this topic for exemple. I will try to report more from now on. But unfortunately many have already given up.

I have been hanging around here for a year now and a year ago older french members were already complaining about the situation.

Yes, you found Theymos' last intervention regarding the "french problem". And if you look at the rest of the topic, you can see that I request updates.
I started reporting since that day. Here are my stats to date: 438 posts with 99% accuracy (215 good, 3 bad, 220 unhandled)

I recently learned that mods are "paid". I hope our mod doesn't get any more satoshi. Maybe this will change things.

The large number of unhandled reports isn't promising indeed. I have the same number of unhandled reports, but 15 times more good reports.

It's a volunteer position, but not entirely unpaid. This is the best indication I've seen, for the Politics & Society section:

Whoever moderates that section will get a max payment of around $500 so nobody is going to be getting a 'full time salary' whoever gets it.
