I am working on a zcash altcoin for a project, and I really could use some help. I have mined the genesis block, but the first node is having a no connection issue. How do I deploy the mainet and connect the first node to it? Do I need a DNS seed?

I have never built zcash node before , but I think it's the same as others .
1)You should to know every PC wallet is a full node , you can get a full node by just installing zcash wallet .
2)Lots of project have provided cmd node , this is just a server  and you can start it by cmd .

Help us understand what exactly you are trying to do. It looks to me that you are trying to clone ZCash. Or it could be that you are just trying to run a full node. Because the genesis block of ZCash is not mined. If you are cloning, than I guess you would have to have a couple of full nodes up and running to constitute your initial network. If you are running a full node, than you certainly have a connectivity issue. The genesis block is hardcoded in the software, but you need to download and verify ever other block.
